  1. This is interesting, because as publicized as this deal is and as big as it is, no other coaching candidate is going to accept an interview since they know they'll have no chance. Would they? Yes someone will. Leslie Frazier interviewed with the Seahawks last year after everyone was convinced Carroll was taking that job. Teams can always find someone who at least wants their name in that discussion. Even if everyone knows it's a trumped up deal you get practice for future interviews and I think it almost makes them sympathetic figures in the league.
  2. And another awful day for the Carolina Panthers.
  3. Well that sucks. The Vikings might be looking at having to take Devlin in the 2nd round now.
  4. It all depends on what the market is. I mean if you're talking about a 1 year $3M flyer, I'd love the Vikings to take a shot at it and see if he can wake up and stop being a dumbass. I highly doubt that will ever happen but it's worth a shot at that price.
  5. Why on Earth would anyone have interest in him as a head coach right now? He was an absolute trainwreck in almost every way.
  6. Yeah I didn't think it was a good choice to pull the goalie with 2 minutes left. [expletive] Steve Ott.
  7. I'm telling you I couldn't believe it. We're not Broncos fans but a friend was on their roster at the time so we were out there for the weekend, saw all of the people in the stadium and as we were coming out to the players parking lot heard everyone worshipping him. I saw at least 5 sets of people that had two signs one had a big "T" and the next one had a giant bow. Any time he did anything the place went crazy. From everything I've heard it's increased massively since he didn't completely embarrass himself in the regular season.
  8. I believe they were/are. Elway just took a position with them and was on the Stanford sidelines. I'm sure that was to woo Harbaugh. From everything I've read they are, but as a Detroit writer pointed out, it doesn't make much sense from Harbaugh's perspective. If they don't win, ownership and the fans are going to be much harder on the college coach with no NFL track record than the hero who returned home. Not only can he not pick his own QB but he's saddled with a total fan favorite who is a project and does not seem at all like the kind of guy Jim would choose. Are the Broncos really that attached to Tebow? Tough to say, I guess it depends on Elway's opinion. I was out there for an open practice in Mile High last summer during camp and the Tebow love was crazy. It was like a cult deal. From what I've heard the fans are completely over the moon with him now and I think Bolen likes him a lot.

  10. My bigger problem was the two times Iowa players (IIRC Brommer and McCabe) took the ball away from him, under the Iowa basket, and they called fouls on them. The second one, Sullinger basically handed the ball to McCabe. I can't wait until Iowa is good enough to take advantage of crappy refs. They aren't at that point...yet. i don't think iowa will ever be that good, but this pampering of sullinger is a disgrace. The comments in this thread during the first Illinois/Ohio State game will be epic.

The second one, Sullinger basically handed the ball to McCabe. I can't wait until Iowa is good enough to take advantage of crappy refs. They aren't at that point...yet. The one on McCabe was awful. He didn't touch his body anywhere and stole it cleanly. He's extremely talented, skilled and smart, I just don't know how the Big Ten can defend him once he has the ball when he's getting calls like this.
  12. I also have no idea how teams are going to stop Sullinger if the officials keep calling his game like this. He can do whatever he wants offensively and is already getting every possible call. He can back people down with force from 12 feet away and knock dudes on their ass but if you try to body him up they call it. He also got away with just putting his head down and using his off hand driving along the baseline where they called a block on Brommer for sliding with him.
  13. Sullinger: 24 points on 11-20 shooting, 2-4 FT, 12 boards, 2 blocks. Basabe: 22 points on 7-13 shooting, 8-11 FT, 13 boards and 6 blocks. Mel has been legit when he's healthy. I think he's gonna be good and not just Iowa good. Too bad, that was a hell of an effort to lead for an entire half and lose by 5 without May playing a minute. Scoring just over a point per possession against the best defensive team in the country (giving up .82 per) was impressive. We just don't have the athletes to avoid the prolonged bad stretches on each end. Fran is doing is thing though, it's gonna be crucial to add a piece or two in the spring that can compete next year.
  14. Wait, you've never seen Darius Rucker (Hootie) before?
  15. Why does Stephen Bardo have a job? He's awful. His list of three "underrated, under the radar" Big Ten players started with E'Twaun Moore and ended with Jordan Taylor. What the [expletive] is he talking about?
  16. Who was saying that? It sounds a little misleading. They did sign him to a 3-year deal but you know how those deals work in the NFL, especially when you sign someone off a practice squad. Promising him a shot at the starting job isn't really saying much considering that there is no starter right now. It's Webb, Ramsey and Bomar. Ramsey will be gone so those are the only two QB's entering the draft and free agency. They're going to draft someone to add to those two. If they bring in a veteran stop-gap that means you've got 4 and one of Webb or Bomar is gone after camp. If it comes to that situation I would bet it's Bomar who is out. Then again, maybe he and Webb and the rookie show enough that they're good going with those 3. I would be surprised though.
  17. Yeah the only weakness I took from the bowl game was his reaction to the rare pressure he saw.
  18. I like how the last two paragraphs of the AP story sounded like they were written by an angry Bengals fan.
  19. He has Luck at 1, Newton at 3, Gabbert at 7 and Locker at 10. That would be very surprising and would suck. Though I have been hearing that Mallett has some off-field stuff that could cause him to drop to the 2nd. But it's always vague innuendo so it might be total bs. He has us taking a DE which I don't see happening. If there are no QB's there at 12 it would be great to trade down to a spot where you could grab Pouncey. Raisin, the CBS dude has Rahim Moore at 16 but I haven't seen him in many 1st rounds, what do you think? Safety is as big of a need for the Vikings as QB.
  20. Well Luck looked awesome again against a really good defensive coaching staff and team who had a month to prepare. He makes some throws look so easy and is pinpoint with them. I don't know much about the Panthers ownership/front office but man that job has to be desirable just because of him. Look at the QB's that will be in that division the next 3-5 years and beyond though, wow.
  21. Yep that was nice. Too bad they had the two fairly unnecessary penalties by Dunc and Toews led to that tying goal though. Little puck luck on the game winner to help out.
  22. Based on my understanding it would be kind of useless because of the uncertainty of how things will fall with the new CBA. A lot of the names that would be posted on the unrestricted list could very well end up being restricted and the ways that they can be tagged or exclusivity with negotiations could be up in the air. Plus this is the draft thread.
  23. Not that it's any surprise but Frazier said he can't envision any scenario where he would call Favre to have him come back next year.
  24. Had the Vikings lost to the Eagles they would be drafting 6 or 7. Then again Frazier might not be the coach if they had lost 4 in a row. I would guess 4 of the 11 teams in front of them won't consider drafting a QB in that spot. I imagine Luck and Newton will be gone but I'm hopeful for Mallett.
  25. It was a joke, relax. I was just pointing out the major differences in the circumstances surrounding the Eagles and Lions games.
