I'll give you one thing, sulley. No one on here can just make up stuff and use hyperbole like you can. Add that to your unmatched skills of self-pity when it comes to your teams and unique ability to constantly whine about officiating and horrible luck in the face of any factual evidence or sound reasoning. hey, attack the post not the poster! now, how about some iowa hoops? Nah I'd rather not. There's not much to discuss this year. I'd rather discuss how Illinois football and basketball as well as the Bears have never gotten a good bounce in your lifetime. Or how they're the victims of a conspiracy by the officials every single game. It truly is fascinating.

Yes Adrian is that much better than Forte. Forte averaged less than 4 yards per carry. The total yards don't tell you that much other than he got 120 more touches. So yes you're right. He had 106 more yards on 120 more touches. Great. He is a better receiver but a big part of that is that the Vikings don't throw much to Adrian. They actually have another solid back and throw to him. Forte is a slightly above average starting running back. Adrian is the best RB in the game. Comparing the two is like comparing Payton Manning to Jake Delhomme.

I just hope if Favre really did tell them no, the Vikings let him know there offer won't stand. Sign now and either have surgery or come to mini-camp or stay retired. No waffling until the middle of July. I think he provided more upside than Sage and would rather have had a healthy Favre in the playoffs. In the regular season I think it's probably 1, maybe 2 wins that it could cost us. It's less disappointing than when Housh looked like he was set to sign and then left for Seattle at the last second.

Yes, Denver had Scheffler, Marshall, Stockley and Royal as the only guys with more then 500 yrds recieving, and that was with Cutler at QB and NO running game (no Bronco had more then 343 yards rushing). The Bears had 6 guys with at least 300 yards (one of those guys have been let go, mind you) with Kyle Orton and a running game. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that Marshall, Royal, and Scheffler (unless he's traded) will take a hit in production with Kyle Orton at QB and Moreno at RB. It is also not too much of a stretch to think Hester, Olsen, and Forte won't get a bump with Cutler at QB. Suffice to say I think the Bears will have enough targets for Cutler this coming year, albeit unproven to begin the year. Wait.........wut? Berrian and AP consitutues having better weapons around him? Explain that to me again? With Cutler as his QB, I suspect Hester will have at least the same type season next season as Berrian. And while I won't compare Forte to AP, but Forte isn't chopped liver. Not to mention the Vikes don't have a TE of either Schleffer or Olsen's ability on their roster. So it should surprise no one if the Bears have a better offense next yr then the Vikings. On your first point, you just chose arbitrary numbers that don't really mean anything. Brandon Marshall and anyone is much better than the Bears WR's. Denver has/had a better o-line and their running game was more effective than the Bears. The second point wasn't very difficult to understand. Berrian and AP are better than what Favre had with the Jets. Cutler will have an inferior supporting cast in my opinion compared to what he had with the Broncos. That's it. Forte isn't chopped liver but he's not that good either. He's a very good pass receiver out of the backfield but an average to slightly above average rusher whose yardage looked good because he got a boatload of carries. Are you aware Shiancoe had two more TD's and 22 more yards than Olsen last year on 10 fewer catches? Skill-wise I would take Olsen as a receiver, but Shank is a better blocker and was more productive with worse QB play and fewer touches.

The oft-injured Adrian Peterson who has missed 2 games out of 32 possible in the NFL? He basically had two injuries in college and has been very durable in the NFL. Some of you guys are completely ignoring the numbers on both sides. The numbers have not shown Cutler is as good as you're making him and he's going to have a decrease in legit targets to throw to this year. The numbers showed that Favre was better than you're making him last year before the injury. Of course I won't ignore that Favre is 39 and Cutler is likely to improve. But for this 1 year, I don't expect either to vary significantly from last year. Favre would have better weapons around him, Cutler would have inferior to what he had. I also won't discount the injury possibility with Favre at his age. However I expect him to take fewer hits this year and not throw as much.

Because you don't understand that Brett Favre isn't that good anymore. His stats last year before he got hurt would disagree. I paid attention to the Jets all year, he wasn't good. He had one big game, and maybe one or two other good ones. But he stunk before he got hurt. He hasn't been good for years. Once again the stats tell a completely different story. Week 1 at Miami: 15-22, 194 yards, 68%, 2 TD, 0 INT, 125 QB rating. Week 2: 18-26, 181 yards, 69%, 1 TD, 1 INT, 86 QB rating. Week 3: 30-42, 271 yards, 71.4%, 3 TD's, 2 INT's, 93 QB rating. Week 4: 24-34, 289 yards, 71%, 6 TD's, 1 INT, 124 QB rating. I see 1 big game and 2 other good ones just in the first four. Week 6: 25-33, 189 yards, 76%, 1 TD, 2 INT, 74 QB rating Week 7: 21-38, 197 yards, 55%, 0 TD, 2 INT, 48 QB rating. Week 8: 28-40, 290 yards, 70%, 2 TD, 3 INT, 76 QB rating. Week 9: 19-28, 201 yards, 68%, 0 TD, 1 INT, 74 QB rating. I see 1 bad game, and three average games. Week 10: 14-19, 167 yards, 74%, 1 TD, 0 INT, 118 QB rating. Week 11: 26-33, 258 yards, 79%, 2 TD, 0 INT, 119 QB rating Week 12: 25-32, 224 yards, 78%, 2 TD, 1 INT, 104 QB rating. I see 3 more good games. So in total you're looking at 1 great game, 5 good games, 3 average games, 2 bad games. Then he got hurt and the wheels fell off. The good games came against some pretty good defenses too.

Sure, but they will still need to experience the actual games too. You can't totally substitute game experience with practice. The Vikings receivers will have that same adjustment period with either Favre or Rosenfels. Honestly, I'd go with Tarvaris Jackson over either of them. He has the most upside and probably won't be significantly worse than either. Let him try to develop or pull a Titans and bring in a decent veteran who won't do anything great, but also won't make major mistakes (Gus Frerotte perhaps?). They had Frerotte last year. That's why I brought him up. He's not exciting, but I think he could serve a similar role to Kerry Collins - manage the game enough to let the rest of the talent win games. Except Frerotte is the opposite of a game manager. He's a poorer, less mobile version of Favre. He was a turnover machine and took an absurd amount of sacks. He had the highest interception rate in the league last year, even though he played in a very conservative offense. On top of that awful rate, he didn't complete 60% of his passes and didn't get the ball downfield.
-
Do you really think Favre is going to turn over a new leaf at this point? He is what he is. He's not going to suddenly get excited about offseason training, spend 24/7 in the weight room and hours studying playbooks. He's going to learn the cliff notes and try to wing it, just like he did with the Jets. Well he shouldn't have to learn the offense half as much as he did in NY. Our offense is virtually identical to what the Packers ran with Sherman. He needs to at least attend mini-camps and can't be completely alienated from the rest of the team. If it's a 1 year shot, he has to at least learn from what Jets players said after the year and at least buy in enough to not create resentment.

I agree with a lot of the stuff on both sides here. I'm biased but I think as of now the Vikings are better than the Bears at RB, OL, WR, DL and the secondary. LB's could possibly be better if E.J. is healthy and Urlacher continues to slide. Favre obviously brings more upside but as goony said he'll lose a couple games by himself also. The key would be how much he minimizes risk which has always been the issue. With the defense, OL and running game we have and upgraded targets, he won't have to be the gunslinger trying to win games. I just don't know if you can trust him. I think I've bought in to the idea of bringing him for one year IF he's committed. Don't just try to prove you can still play. If you really want to stick it to Green Bay, cement your legacy and win a title, you better be all in for one year and come to everything in the offseason. If he wants to come and go as he pleases and completely have his own setup in the locker room, you risk losing the rest of the team when things don't go well.

The Vikings could be very very good with Harvin and Favre. But then again, in crunch time last year, Favre was terrible. They can be very good with the current roster. Not Super Bowl good, but 11-12 wins and division champion good. The defense is very good and should be better with the return of E.J. in the middle. I'm not counting on a lot offensively from Harvin but hopefully he, along with Sage can have it in the 10-15 range in the league. Favre was having a pretty solid season last year before the injury. He would be surrounded by a better offense than he had last year and would be in a familiar style offense. If he requires all of the special treatment and refuses to adapt to the offense or coaching, it's probably more harm than good.

I can never stop flip-flopping my opinion of Favre as a Viking.
-
I still think QB is a huge need position for the Vikes. Yeah, I'm not sure how WR is a bigger need than QB. At least they have Berrian. What they don't have is somebody to throw to him. I guess I could have clarified. QB is the most important position in the sport and is a huge question mark. But they're set on a Sage/Tarvaris competition and likely having Sage as the starting QB. No one in this draft was going to be an upgrade on the QB spot for next year. Even as a long-term option there wasn't really much that could have been addressed at QB from where they were.
-
I'm pretty pleased with the Vikings draft. 3 biggest needs were WR, RT and CB. Harvin was who I wanted at 22. There is some boom or bust involved there but I think he's worth the risk given the current state of the team and what else was available. Loadholt and Allen were two solid value picks at positions of need. Jasper Brinkley will make the team as a 5th round pick and help out on special teams.
-
Neither would I have a problem if Minnesota took Harvin, because recent draft history suggests Minnesota don't developed WR any better then Chicago or Detroit (ie Rice and Williamson). Well Williamson was with the old staff and was just a horrible pick. I felt so at the time. They thought they needed a burner to replace Moss and forgot to see if he knew how to catch. I'm still holding out hope for Sidney. He looked good his rookie year and was never healthy last year. He needs to put up this year though.
-
Lots of talk about Harvin being the target for the Vikings. Childress went down to meet with him this week and all of the local media is saying they're super high (insert pot joke) on him. The reports are that they think his ball skills are out of this world and his potential may be too much to pass up. Could all be a smokescreen, we'll see. I wouldn't have any problem with it. He's probably a boom or bust guy but I think they're in a position to take that risk. Probably the only spots where a rookie could become a starter next year are RT and WR. At 22 you're probably getting the 5th best tackle in the draft. They could use depth at DT and insurance at CB, but if they're at all comfortable with Harvin's character, he would be my pick.

"Cubs don't win in '07 with Dusty Baker"

No way is Utah winning. They have been awful. As someone who kinda follows them, I can't wait until Boozer is gone. He held them hostage all year. What in the world happened to him? He looked like he was going to be solidly in that 2nd tier of stars.

These are the irons I play. They are made from forged steel, so when you hit the ball solid, it feels great. They are also cavity backed, which makes it easier to get it off the ground. I am pretty sure these clubs were designed with one degree less loft than normal. Pretty solid clubs for the price, but you might be able to find better. What is your handicap? http://www.golfsmith.com/products/BH1960/Ben_Hogan/2006_Apex_Edge_Iron_Set_3-PW_w/_Steel_Shaft 16 handicap when playing semi-regularly last year for the first time in about 5 years. Hit my 6 and lower irons very consistently, very inconsistent with mid-high irons, fairway woods and driver. Short game is coming along. Not expecting any miracles with new clubs. I play about a 15 year old set of Wilson's that aren't terrible, just looking for something a touch more forgiving. I'm able to play a nice draw with 7 iron and lower pretty consistently, need to get better with everything longer. My biggest problem is getting my body out in front, especially with the driver. Local pro gave me a nice tip/drill where I put my right toe even with my left heel, about 6 inches apart and keep that right heel on the ground all the way through the shot. Or putting that right foot back with only the toe on the ground. Takes my body out of the shot and don't lose much distance at all. Then I go back to a normal stance, normal shot and I just have a killer time trying to slow my body down. When I get my timing down I can put together a really nice round, but when I get too fast with the body it's tough to get it back.
-
Oh and I'm in the market for a new set of irons. With some of the deals you can find online, especially last year's models, I'm looking to stay around $400 or less if I can. Post any recommendations you may have or deals you've found online.

Yeah it had the potential to be one of the best Sunday's of my lifetime at least. When Phil and Tiger were headed to #17 my brother and I were practically awe-struck at how incredible the day had been. Then Phil sticks it on 17 but just mis-reads his putt terribly. Feel bad for Perry, he looked unflappable until the chip on 17 and then never recovered. I thought Cabrera was dead when he was 3 back while Phil was making his charge and Tiger was coming on. He caught a huge break off the tree but also made some huge shots and putts.

As long as you are cool with it, I guess we can agree. LOL. I love it when people completely ignore a long post and pick out one line like that without substance. Then again I guess I would be argumentative and bitter if I were a journalist today and living in North Dakota. There was no substance to pick out. It was a long, self-serving trail of BS that more or less argued that you get to decide which people's lives to take into your hands and which you don't. (neither argumentative nor bitter. Quite happy. Maybe judgmental, but that's one of the side-effects of being right). I don't for a minute trust your judgment on your own driving ability or your own level of impairment. And I look forward to the day you get caught. i don't see how someone clocking in at 205 driving after one beer is taking anyone's life into one's hands. that's insane. i thought he clearly said when if/when he drinks anymore than that he doesn't drive. There's no place for reason in this thread. You're a bad person. Honestly if you think after one beer I'm significantly impaired and taking other's lives into my own hands, there are clearly no actual facts that will alter your opinion. I wasn't trying to be self-serving, I was going out of my way to explain myself. I consider myself pretty well-informed on the topic because of the work I've done with NADS (yes I have worked with NADS) and was trying to bring reason into the argument based on factual research. You don't want to hear it. You and goony think anyone who drives after 1 beer will also use the "I'm fine, I can handle it" argument with more. That's not true in my case whether you believe it or not, which really doesn't matter. -

Every junior should apply for the draft. You get to once while being allowed to come back. Plus part of the process is the scouts meet with you to let you know what you need to work on at the end. It allows you to get good feedback and get your name out there. Plus you get to play against some great players. But, yeah he isn't ever going to be a pro. Right, but I thought I heard he was expected to hire an agent.
