  1. The deeper I get into this, the more clouded it becomes. I keep talking myself into Arizona State and Clemson in the Sweet 16. I like the WVU/Kansas and UCLA/Villanova winners to get to the Elite 8, I just think those games are a bit of a toss-up. I think Purdue could get to the Elite 8. I don't like Louisville's guard play but I don't see anyone challenging them until the Elite 8 and I don't trust WVU/Kansas. Ugh.
  2. Gonzaga sucks. Admittedly I haven't seen Gonzaga play more than 3-4 times this year (none of them included the Memphis beatdown) but I didn't get that impression from watching them or their resume. On a neutral court they got 8 and 9 point wins over Okie State and Tennessee and a 22 point win over Maryland. All relatively average teams but all at-large tournament teams also. They won at Washington State by 22. They won at Tennessee by 10. They lost by 5 to Arizona in Phoenix. Lost to Connecticut in overtime, and lost to Utah by 1 when they had a couple chances to win at the buzzer. They've got a lot of experience, a good coach and at least a couple of NBA players.
  3. I want to pick Villanova to go deep but I think the UCLA game is about as much of a toss-up as you can have in a 3-6. I can't talk myself into picking anything but 1's and 2's. And I hate taking the chalk. And I am strongly considering VCU over UCLA. I don't think UCLA has a chance against Nova in Philadelphia, especially with Collison playing injured. Yeah I forgot about the Philly angle. UCLA was so good offensively, they've got a lot of experience and I think a lot of Howland. I just think it's a tough enough matchup to make me hesitant to pick Villanova to go really deep.
  4. Late tonight or early tomorrow.

  6. I don't believe I've ever had a year where I had such a hard time finding a 3 seed or lower that I think can make it to the Final Four. Missouri has the best chance of any of them in my opinion. This stinks.
  7. Mike Patrick comes up with 3 things every game that Duke does better than anyone in the country. He just said they're as good as anyone in the country, EVER, at spreading the court and working the clock. What?
  8. Mike Patrick is the only person in America more in the tank for Duke than Vitale. Every Duke game I watch I hear that you can't zone them because they shoot too well. Yet they shoot 34% from 3 as a team. You would rather have Henderson shooting 3's than driving and their PG's aren't very good from 3. Scheyer and Singler are good shooters but not to this amazing level you would be led to believe.
  9. He's a really good to great player. But, some of the talk on here this year would have lead one to believe he was Jerry West. He's an above average college player, no more, no less. No more than an above average college player? When healthy he's one of the top 5 players in the Big Ten. That's more than above average. Unless you think there are only about 40 players in the country who are above average.
  10. The Hummel stuff is just weird from some of you guys. He's a really productive/efficient player who is extremely important to his team. He had the best offensive rating in the Big Ten this year and is a good defender and rebounder.
  11. Lavin is a total goof but he does so many Big Ten games he's kind of our goof. Plus he's kind of fun, does a pretty good job breaking things down and is pretty knowledgable about Big Ten coaches/players. Every ESPN studio analyst is just hammering the Big Ten and they're using such stupid rationale for their bashing.
  12. Well that's an awful way to end the year. Even though we were 2-4, we played pretty well short-handed for the last 6 games and 7 of the last 8. Then no one shows up and we play our worst game of the year in the BTT.
  13. Oh my God. That was just pitiful. There aren't adjectives to describe our defensive performance. We shoot 26% and they shoot 71% for the half. Iowa 6-23 from the field Sims 8-8 from the field Iowa 19 Sims 18
  14. Smart money seems to be on Duke at this point.
  15. A&M and Texas Tech are tied after A&M had a 22 point lead in the second half. Mike Singletary is putting on a show for TTU. 41 points, 33 of which have been in the second half. The rest of his team has combined for 2 points this half and A&M is pretty much playing him straight up.
  16. Syracuse and Seton Hall was close until the Pirates decided they didn't like playing defense. 32 points for Syracuse in less than 9 minutes. Most of them coming when Seton Hall just didn't run back on defense. Eric Devendorf is a damn clown. As is Onuaku. For the reputation he has, Boeheim brings in a lot of idiots.
  17. With that extension that kicked in as a result of the sanctions it would seem he's likely to be around in 2011 at least. That would be an awfully expensive buyout. If Brackins leaves he's going to have his work cut out for him. Like many, I thought he would have well coached teams that were dangerous but may struggle with recruiting. He's actually recruited pretty well and probably has landed 3 NBA players. Their offense has just been atrocious the last two years. With Colvin, Garrett and Staiger they could have a nice backcourt next year but if Brackins leaves what's left inside?
  18. Ohio State and Michigan State sweep the individual awards. Lucas was POY, Walton was defensive POY. Mullens was 6th man of the year, Buford was freshman of the year. Was really hoping Gatens would get it but their numbers are pretty similar and OSU obviously was much better. Didn't catch the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams.
  19. PSU should roll past IU. Penn State beat Indiana by three points in Happy Valley last weekend. Yeah I forgot about that. Shouldn't have said "roll" but I still give them a solid edge.
  20. The bottom half of the bracket could get crazy or could hold to form. I wouldn't be completely shocked to see Saturday's game be 6 vs. 7/10. Michigan is probably a 54/46 type favorite against Iowa. I don't think Illinois is immune from an upset by either. Illinois can lock you up but as we've seen can struggle offensively. It will be a 55 possession game and if Iowa/Michigan are hitting from the outside it will likely be a 2 score game or less. PSU should roll past IU. They could completely remove any bubble discussion by beating Purdue and that's certainly possible.
  21. Davidson goes down and Stephen Curry probably finishes his college career in the NIT. Now Michigan State is safe.
  22. Stephen Curry and Davidson in trouble. Down 3 with a minute left. They were down 5 with a minute and College of Charleston blocked a shot. While his guard controlled the ball the cat that blocked the shot stood there taunting the Davidson guy and got t'd up. Curry made both free throws.
  23. Worst team in the state gets into the tournament. How sad is that? Of course you would say something like that... They were maybe the worst team in the state in November/December but that's debatable. They've been the best team in the state since Christmas. I think a somewhat healthy Iowa is definitely better but as it stands it's UNI. Yeah I agree, UNI and Iowa are comparable. ISU third and Drake a distant 4th thanks to their horrible coaching hire. UNI just lost to Drake less than a month ago. So what? They played in the same league and UNI went 17-4 while Drake went 7-12. Michigan State's not the best team in the Big Ten because they lost to Penn State and Northwestern less than two months ago.
  24. Evan Turner shoots like 75% every time I see them play. Terrible shot by Coble that should do it. Can't they find another shooter to put on the floor so they don't always have a Nash/Williams/Ryan out there who can't do anything offensively?
