  1. I think so too. Seems like a solid recruiter as well. I do think that ideally they would like someone who has been an assistant at a high-major in addition to being a head coach. I think Tony Barbee might be my favorite at this point though I've read that he may take the Auburn job.
  2. Brey has had a solid if not spectacular long run at ND. Amaker had early success at Seton Hall and didn't walk into a great situation at Michigan. Dawkins hasn't been at Stanford long enough to tell. I'm pretty sure Collins isn't as slimy as Quinn was. I don't know that he would be great but I'm sure he's done a lot of the leg work at Duke with K's international work. He's from Chicago and I think he could be a good recruiter here. Has a clean image while also being a fairly big name.
  3. That's what I'm saying. It would never fly at Iowa though. The DUI's are one thing but all of the crazy ish he did at Kentucky probably cements it.
  4. The same Dooley who crapped himself at Eastern Carolina? Go right ahead, find a worse guy to run your program. Just hire Billy G. and a driver for him. Shows how much I know. Wasn't even aware of that, just heard that he's supposed to be one of the top assistants in place to move up to a head job and is said to be a good recruiter though that can be debated when at KU under Self. The good news is, unless something unexpected happens Iowa should be the 2nd best opening behind Oregon and their money.
  5. I wouldn't mind grabbing a top assistant from an elite program. Joe Dooley at Kansas or Chris Collins would be fine with me.
  6. I heard it when the IU job was open and that fat greasy pig was interested(or at least interested in using it for a raise) I'm sure he'll change his mind when dealing with a powerhouse program like Iowa. Heard it from only the best sources I'm sure. That whole train of thought went out the window when he allowed a coach who just got his old school heavy sanctions to be hired at IU.
  7. Bite your tongue. Why it is the absolute truth. The guy is a grade A clown. Absolute truth based on all of the sanctions and probation he's earned, right?
  8. Bite your tongue.
  9. I figured you were talking about Iowa due to their stud '10 class along with Lickliter's coaching accumen That was what I thought at first although he isn't recruiting like gangbusters so it has to be Illinois. At any rate, the main reason for Lickliter being fired now is that Brommer (not a big loss) and Fuller (huge loss) were rumored to be transferring if Lick stayed. Gatens supposedly was going to leave if Fuller left which would've been the death knell.
  10. It will be interesting to see who they can attract. The last 3 years have been awful but you could make the case that the job is better now. They can pay more ($2M and have heard they can go to $2.5, possibly higher for Pearl) have already begun construction on a $40M practice facility and renovation of CHA. Scott Drew sounds shady with recruiting so they'll probably stay away but he's the kind of guy they need. Pearl is obviously #1 and I know he's willing to listen but I doubt they can make it happen. What about Buzz Williams at Marquette? That's obviously a better job but I've heard he's making like $600,000. Don't know if that's accurate but if so, Iowa could triple it. Tony Barbee would be at the top of my mid-major list. Fran McCafferey and Greg Marshall are interesting. I've heard Brian Gregory at Dayton would be interested but they struggled at the end of the year and underachieved.
  11. So do we start a "coaching changes" thread or just post it in here? Usually the next year's threads aren't started until after the season is finished but I guess Tim thinks he can whatever he wants around here.
  12. There's a much stronger advantage in basketball than football though. Their football program doesn't have the tradition and the in-state talent level is higher comparatively in basketball than football.
  13. Bilas really loves Cornell.
  14. Eff that our new coach is the man. He'll hang on to all the key players, recruits and add a couple studs of his own. I think he can get us on the bubble if you look at what he's done elsewhere. *I have no idea who our coach will be.
  15. I know this offers little comfort but, OSU is going down in NCAA flames. You can just sense it, they're getting every break, every half-assed, goofed up crap of shot is going in, that has a way turning around. I'm resigned to the fact that they're just going to be awesome in every sport forever.
  16. I've gotta admit the timing of these last two Saturdays is brutal for you.
  17. I think the win yesterday and 2OT today is enough for Illinois. Turner and Lighty make it look so easy when they get it at the top of the key, clear out and go 1 on 1. I've been spending the last two days trying to convince myself that we can get a coach that can bring in athletes close to that level. My flavor of the hour is Billy Gillispie. My standards are gone. Purdue stuck at 4 points with less than 5 minutes to go in the half.
  18. Purdue fans what do you know about Paul Lusk? I've heard he's been one of the keys to your recruiting and he has the title of associate head coach for the last couple years so he must be able to coach a bit. He started his career at Iowa and he has some supporters who want him considered for the job.
  19. Thad's reaction was rather strange. Looked like he was yelling at the Michigan bench.
  20. Vikings needs are at DT, CB and QB with the possiblity of G. The DT's I want are off the board as are the top two interior lineman. That means it's down to Devin McCourty at CB from Rutgers or Colt McCoy. The #3 CB or #3 QB. QB is the more important position, CB is the more immediate need with Cedric Griffin's injury. Both players fit in well with what the Vikings do. McCourty is the better value pick. The Vikings select Devin McCourty from Rutgers.
  21. If they lure Pearl it won't be simply because they're giving him way more money than UT. Again, I would say it's not likely but I definitely wouldn't rule it out like I would have a few days ago.
  22. They forced out his mentor. No way he wants that job. He was actually somewhat close to taking it 3 years ago. If Iowa came calling with $2.5-3 mil per year on the table, plus their new practice facility and Carver upgrades on the horizon, I'd be willing to bet there's no way he wouldn't take the job. I wouldn't go that far but it is at least a legit possibility. Two of his assistants are from Iowa and one of them played here. Bruce really loved it at Iowa and still has some really close friends here, a few of which are in prominent positions. I know on the outside it looks like it makes no sense and I would have thought the same two days ago.
  23. I don't blame you for thinking that but it's definitely higher than that and that's not his only connection. Last time around I figured it was like a 1% chance. This time around I figured like you that it was basically 0. It's still not likely to happen but trust me, don't rule it out yet at all. And this isn't based on any internet rumors, just one lucky connection.
  24. Come on, read Barta's statement again. Not one mention of the coaching staff or Lick.
  25. Why? There's a reason he's in the SEC You could say it was in the best interest of the Big Ten universities to not allow Sampson into the conference also. Even to a greater extent. Yet Delaney didn't block that.
