  1. Because no one believes that Favre would commit this early and you really can't trust anything Favre says. Two preseason games haven't occurred yet and it is the first week of training camp. Rumor has it that last Monday the Vikings insisted Favre tell them if he is going to play this year. Favre got mad and said no and texted a few of his teammates in return. The Vikings got nervous and upped his salary and probably told the players who did receive the text not to really admit it. Where are you getting these rumors from? Do you have voices in your head? You already claimed Allen and Peterson admitted they received the texts when no such thing happened.
  2. That's what I was saying on here from the afternoon it happened. No one ever reported that the text said anything beyond that.
  3. I don't care what you guys say, I love Joe Pa. Running off because he pooped his pants is endearing with that man. Really though, it's weird that I don't have a dislike for Penn State. Part of it is probably that Iowa seems to own them, but I at least think they try to do things the right way. If they weren't in the Big Ten I would love those bastards. Plus he's the subject of one of the best montage's ever (made even sweeter by beating OSU in their place):
  4. I'm not. They basically have a 2-game season. And still if two teams from major conferences go undefeated they will still be ahead of BSU at the very end regardless of preseason rankings. Good, they should be.
  5. That guy's unibrow is creeping me out.
  6. I'm not. They basically have a 2-game season.
  7. Rolle is overrated.
  8. Yeah I'm with you on that.
  9. Link? Not being a smart a## but I looked and couldn't find anything like that. http://www.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/2010/08/03/favre_not_returning_to_vikings/ I don't know about Peterson and Allen, but Shiancoe more or less confirmed that teammates were getting the text. I'm pretty sure Wilson just made that up.
  10. Coaches poll is out, fire up the dadgum week 1 thread: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm?loc=interstitialskip 1. Bama 2. OSU 3. Florida 4. Texas 5. Boise St 6. Virginia Tech 7. TCU 8. Oklahoma 9. Nebraska 10. Iowa 12. Wisconsin 14. PSU 34. Notre Dame 37. Mizzou 47. Northwestern
  11. As expected the 2011 Big Ten Championship will be held at Lucas Oil Field in Indy. Here's an article by Greenstein with quotes from Alvarez on the divisional talk: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/08/greenstein-big-ten-divisions-taking-shape.html The geographic layout with OSU, Michigan, PSU, MSU, Purdue, IU in the East and Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois still makes the most sense. Covers your bases with geography and rivalries while keeping competitive balance.
  12. Agreed.
  13. His teammates wouldn't do that, they love the guy. LOVE him. Attaboy, you're finally coming around.
  14. Somebody's lying then. His teammates don't have any reason to. The only person who does is him. And there are two potential reasons: more money or more attention. What an [expletive]. I would laugh if it was all a prank by Jared Allen and Pat Williams just to see everyone freak out. Really though, all of the reports only mentioned that the text said "This is it" which is incredibly vague and could give plausible deniability for everyone.
  15. She's the ho? How exactly? A married man sends her pictures of his dong and she's the bad guy? I didn't say she was the bad guy in this situation. She's just [expletive] awful. She's one of the least likable people in the world. So was Favre. Then he became a Viking. So now he's not. She still is. I don't really care about the off-field stuff unless they're committing heinous crimes. A married athlete sexting? Oh my God, what has this world come to?!!?!?! Next you're going to tell me they cheat on their wives too.
  16. That ho better not play any part in him not coming back. Ugh, Jenn Sterger is the [expletive] worst.
  17. Who is going to be 2nd on their depth chart for RB? Albert Young? Toby Gerhart.
  18. Pretty pathetic, if true. Not really. With him every game is a guaranteed sell-out. They would go from a top 3 quarterback last year to hoping for a middle of the pack QB at best this year. With him they have a legit shot at the Super Bowl, without him they have a legit shot at winning a playoff game. Their chances of getting a new stadium are greatly enhanced by a Super Bowl appearance or win. I would say all of that is worth an extra $3M guaranteed and if he does everything to reach the extra $4M in incentives, it will all have been worth it to the owners. So he comes back for a few million more? Why does money matter so much to him if all he cares about is playing the game? I'd have more respect for him if he just came out and said that he hated training camp. I really don't understand why he can't admit it. Is it really that big of a deal? He's not holding out. The Vikings are just desperate and trying to sweeten the pot which they should.
  19. Sounds like the coach jumped the gun on twitter a little bit. He said "Grades and God willing, Iowa is where it's at for Macari Brooks." Apparently there's strong mutual interest and he's visiting but nothing about a commitment yet. Also saw that Josh Ogelsby trimmed his list to 4: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Arizona State.
  20. Right, the rest of the division is better than it was. It's just amazing all the stuff I've been reading and hearing about "what will the Vikings do, everyone will stack 9 in the box now?!?!?!?!". Well that's what happened Adrian's first two years and they won the division with Gus stinking up the joint. It's the NFL, anything can happen. With Favre I think they're the most talented team in the division but the other two are still good enough to jump them depending on health and breaks.

  22. How old was Favre's daughter when she gave birth? Dammit, 20. Though his other daughter is just 11... this is a pretty keen post if you catch my drift [expletive] you too. Dont you have a jaw that needs mashed in again? I don't get it.
  23. It is funny how everyone else started totally backtracking at like 6:00 last night but ESPN is sticking to their guns and pretending everything is the same as yesterday morning. No player or coach seems to know who he sent those texts to. People who talked to him yesterday have no idea where it's coming from other than he says his ankle isn't 100% yet. Mooch is the only media type who has talked to him and he says that he hasn't decided anything and didn't tell anyone he was retiring. Yet ESPN has to completely ignore that because he works for NFL Network. He'll be back in 2-3 weeks.
  24. Probably pretty close but I think so. It's doubtful that Jackson or Rosenfels even come close to the numbers Favre put up last year. Heck I'm not even sure if Favre himself could/will come close to duplicating those numbers. Whether or not he plays could very well determine if there will be playoff football in Chicago this year. No one is going to replicate those numbers. But they went 10-6 the year before Favre with awful QB play (until Tarvaris was inserted for the last 4 games), fewer weapons on offense and basically the same defense with less depth in the secondary but younger in other places. They also had historically bad special teams that year because of a crazy amount of injuries which was greatly improved last year with health and a new ST coach.
  25. Nah, unlike the Jets everyone loved him last year. . Except ya know, his coach. Well, that's Brad Childress. He's miserable. There were also the stories that came out before last season about how the other players didn't want him around. And then once he got there and they won games everyone fell in love with him. He also didn't have the isolation he had in NY. Look at how all of his teammates are telling him they don't care how long he waits before he comes in this year. Last year Shiancoe, Allen and others were complaining about a double standard before he got there. Ray Edwards basically said "screw him, we'll go with Tarvaris." They all heard horror stories about his act in the Jets locker room and were worried.
