  1. He was still available in your league? wow.
  2. one never loses the ability to be a scrappy gamer. its in your dna.
  3. the cardinals pitching was pretty mediocore during the season and they pitched well in the postseason.
  4. This would be huge for the US. Hopefully the USSF remembers how to negotiate a contract and doesn't lowball him. There is no reason he should not be the US coach for the next 4 years. I'd hope that money isn't too much of a factor. With the monumental disppointment of this summer's World Cup, I hope USSF realizes how close they can be to being a force in world soccer. Spending some money on a solid coach is a big step in improving the US's standing.
  5. I would rather have him be asked, "After watching the World Series, have you finally figured out how important a lead-off guy getting on base consistently is?" Don't ask him that. If he believes you, then he'll think that only the leadoff man needs to get on base, and that he can continue to populate the rest of the lineup with losers like Izturis and Cedeno. Good point. I wonder, right now, in Vegas who is favored to win the 2007 World Series? Yankees 9-2 Mets 7-1 Twins 8-1 White Sox 10-1 Red Sox 10-1 Tigers 10-1 Cardinals 12-1 Cubs 30-1
  6. Unless the Sox pick a huge chunk of salary and the Cubs don't give up much in return, I want nothing to do with Freddie Garcia. He was bad most of this year.
  7. I remember watching that last game of the season. It was very bittersweet. I remember it being rumored that it was Chip and Steve's last game in the booth, and Chip confirming that he was leaving at the end of the broadcast. That season seems like a lifetime ago. Its really amazing they only won 89 games with that team. I was convinced that the Garciaparra trade was the deciding factor in the Cubs having a successful second half of the year. Unfortunately, they never really play that great, and the last week and a half was one of the most painful times I've ever been a Cub fan. I can vividly recall listening to a fading radio signal of WGN as my buddies and I were driving up to Minnesota for a Bears-Vikings game, as Hawkins blew that game against the Mets with the 3-run homer in the 9th inning. I knew the season was over right then and there. I also miss a good Mark Prior.
  8. US National Team and Klinsmann look like their in some preliminary talks to take over the coach's spot.
  9. Tatum Bell Travis Henry Corey Dillon Bell is the no-brainer but I'm still deciding between Henry and Dillon.
  10. The hate and anger for Benson in Chicago is even more than some of the over the top hate (in other words stubbornness of pre-season Griese supporters) towards Grossman. I think people are still anger at Benson for holding out in the summer of 2005. I don't get it. He needs to play, and he needs to soon.
  11. hisself is a bad announcer.
  12. fjm has a nice reaming of this promotion up on its site.
  13. Can't say I'm real excited about that... WTH? Are you serious? Who is he going to be announcing with? Does it matter? I'm guessing Baldinger.
  14. that's a lot of points for looking pretty bad on Monday night. Classic bounce back game expectations. I'd like to think the bye week will help the Bears but they are 0-2 in Smith's career after a bye, including an embarassing loss at Cleveland last year.
  15. that's a lot of points for looking pretty bad on Monday night.
  16. Yes. I forgot to tape it this morning. I really need to get one of these tivo things everybody's always talking about these days.
  17. The callers on B & B are 75% "mouthbreather". They purposely put them on the air, so it gives them ammo to rip them and make it entertaining.
  18. Hendry was making the rounds on the radio yesterday and I caught his interview with Mac, Jurko, and Harry. He was asked about acquiring new starting pitchers for next year. He specific said, "We'll look at the free agent market, trade possibilities and overseas." Not surprised with the first two, but definitely with the third. Then he said "obviously" many times.
  19. Not to be a jerk, but that's insanely bad. What do you look at when you make your picks?
  20. It was a crazy game, Cech busted his head in the first few minutes of the match. His replacement Carlo Cudicini, got completely knocked out cold in the 90th. John Terry put the gloves on for the last few minutes of the match.
  21. Regardless of what Piniella thinks of platooning Jones, Hendry should realize Jones needs somebody to split time and/or should have a power bat coming off the bench. It'll be up to Piniella to decide how to use those players. But Hendry should realize it based on Jones' pathetic L/R splits.
