  1. this is an embarassing interview. murph is god awful.
  2. He can't because he doesn't have the work permit to do so. Man U is playing in the Champions League match against Celtic this week and Chelsea Sunday and its extremely unlikely that he'd get any time in those matches even if he had the proper paperwork. He's eligible to hit the transfer market on June 2nd. Middle of the MLS season but just after most Euro clubs conclude their seasons. It'll interesting to see if he plays for DC United and then transfers or just waits until he signs somewhere and then plays in the fall. Regardless, the MLS should make a pretty penny off the bidding war between Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, etc.
  3. This thread's been dying off a bit lately. Here's some latest news. Freddy Adu is on a 2 week trial with Manchester United. It looks like his MLS days are winding down very quickly. In the Premiership, the biggest match of the season is arriving this Sunday. Chelsea-Man U will be battling for 1st place in the table. Currently, United is at the top with 3 points clear of Chelsea. Its already become a 2 team race with Liverpool being very average and Arsenal never really finding a consistant form. The match is at Old Trafford and its on Fox Soccer Channel for those of you that have the channel on your cable/dish. Champions League action restarts with the last two group games for all teams finishing by early December. There's some coverage this week on ESPN2 and ESPN Classic.
  4. this is the last good matchup on the bears schedule. a few weeks ago the st. louis game and the minnesota game looked like they might be matchups with 2 good games. now, they both suck and the rest of the bears' schedule is weak (tb, green bay, detroit)
  5. Why? Just go back about 30 pages or so and read from there... exactly, and i actually read most of it. i'm more pissed at myself for actually reading it, than anything that's actually in this thread.
  6. Somebody asked about World Series odds a few pages ago. The Cubs are currently listed as 30-1, the same as the Astros and Padres.
  7. That is horrendous. Hendry is ensuring that if he gets fired his fingerprints will be on the team for a long time. no doubt. he's going to be 38/39 years old when this deal is over. hopefully 8 years includes some options/out clauses.
  8. cubs are signing soriano, just giving a heads up to those who aren't checking other forums.
  9. Hendry helps set the market by signing guys to these contracts. He did the same thing last year with relievers.
  10. I'd be curious to see if Durham would lower his salary demands for a 3rd year on the deal.
  11. Jimbo better improve the offense tremendously if he planned on trotting Hank White out there everyday.
  12. I'm speculating that Piniella has some input with Hendry right now. Meche was with the M's when Piniella was there in 1999 and 2000. He was actually decent in those 2 seasons.
  13. At some point I'm waiting to hear a DeRosa quote similar to what Scott Eyre said last year about the Cubs' offer. "My agent and I sat down and came up with what we were looking for in free agency. Jim Hendry called us up and blew it out of the water with his offer. It was a no-brainer."
  14. These overpaid role players add up very quickly. Hendry must have no memory of his past mistakes. No matter what the some "glass half full people" , these contracts will have an impact on the overall payroll.
  15. Sounds good to me. As long as he's not the starting 2B for the next three years. Its painfully obvious that Jones needs someone to play RF against lefties. I hope its going to be DeRosa, but I don't think it will be.
  16. that's an awfully lot of money. I wish it was Durham, but let's hope DeRosa is at least his numbers from last year.
  17. good, it would be inexcusable to raise ticket prices are the disgrace that was the 2006 Cubs season.
  18. Hopefully the rest of the bullpen is filled with league minimum earning youngsters. Or the Cubs could move Dempster and save some cash there.
  19. if the Ramirez deal is actually what's being reported, tip of the cap to hendry. I also like the wood deal if its for a million per w/ incentives. let's make some more moves jimbo.
