  1. Why spend $237 million when you can assemble a last place team for less than half of that?
  2. If the cubs faced slumping first place American League teams and the Rockies every game we’d be in decent shape.
  3. WAR doesn’t calculate situational hitting. The chances of stranding an infinite amount of runners plummets with Him in the 3 hole. Think 2nd and third 0 outs last night with Happ and Suzuki striking out. A consistent run producer drives in those runs 6th hole hitters like Suzuki and Happ fail at.
  4. Yes. The Cubs crappy team is the punchline here. Hopefully the Guardians are on losing streak when we play them too so we can finish 9-0 vs first place teams in the AL and finish with 70 wins.
  5. It’s unacceptable no doubt but that’s the only reasoning that comes to mind other than Jed being bad at his job. Corey Seager in place of Suzuki and Dansby come to mind.
  6. All I can think of is less long term commitment. In a perfect world Jed is doing the Theo thing waiting for the prospects to be ready and then sign quality players when the championship window opens while aspiring to win 86 games best case scenario to keep the fans happy. There’s the Dansby Swanson overpay which is incongruent with that plan however. Thats the only way this makes sense.
  7. I like it. A VHPP who can provide the same WAR as Swanson Happ Suzuki and Bellinger for 40% of their $94 million combined AAV. Like Juan Soto. Might be too late though since they’re all on the books next season.
  8. Remember Happs hot streak before the all star break? What we need is a guy who can do that consistently from April-September. I think “star” is the term they use for said player.
  9. Cubs have problems vs NL wild card contenders teams <=> 5 games within 500. 20-34 vs Pitt Cincy Stl SF SD AZ NYM ATL across the board. Subtract the teams they need to beat they’re a solid 27-19.
  10. The reason for their offensive resurgence in the first place was riding Happs hot bat. A career 3.5-4 WAR player will regress to the mean and who else on this roster can reliably pick up the slack for a full season? They’re bloated payroll is towards “good” players, not underperforming stars Which makes this roster construction even more absurd.
  11. 2nd and third, 0 outs and our 3 and 4 hitters up. What happens? You guessed it. Strike out strike out. Now up to our 200 hitting 5 hole hitter.
  12. What’s the biggest comeback victory this team has had this season?
  13. I’d feel the same way if it wasn’t the 20th+ time it’s happened this season. At least one late inning lead coughed away/week is expected. Jed will make a transaction for a pen arm with a proven track record in 2027.
  14. How many times this year have they gone an entire week without 6 homeruns?
  15. Cubs can’t beat marginally above 500 nl teams over performing their pythag win% by 6+ games going back to last season.
  16. That 11-21 record vs the central is the difference between 51-46 and 46-51 if they were played 500 ball. throw in tie breaker losses to every NL wld team and you can stick a fork in them. When will Jed replace the replacement level production from morel and Amaya? 2026? Like the pen he’s no fan of addressing glaring needs.
  17. They only an entire offseason to add reliable pen arms. Biggest problem is they have a dismissal 11-21 record vs the central and have lost the season series to every potential wildcard team. games like last night are why there’s people still on the fence about being an arm away. Too little too late.
  18. Yankees are a logical trade partner. They lack production outside of Soto and Judge and Jed literally built a team around complimentary bats. -2.5 WAA when you subtract Judge and Soto. 5.8 WAA with them. Elite bats. Wish we had one.
  19. What the Heyward and Swanson signings (so far) have taught us is spending $ isn’t inherently bad, spending $ on guys with a lot of their value coming from their glove hasn’t worked for us.
  20. They went 1-2-3 mid blink. I guess severe regression to the mean is inevitable after that 15 run outburst on Thursday and Friday.
  21. Dansby .04 points away from the Mendoza line. Those defensive runs saw though right Jed? I’ll raise your $100 million Atlanta and add swap those zeros with 7’s..
  22. How does this happen under the watch of a $40 million manager? They look like Lou Browns Guardians fans in the spring training scene.
  23. So much for that all elusive 3 game winning streak. Time to get back to earth.
