  1. It came down to Horton being injured a week before the playoffs.
  2. At bats vs Lefties and Miles Mikolas no longer in the division will be the reasons Busch’s production dips.
  3. I don’t think the bears will make a deep run and I don’t care either as long as they win on Sunday.. Losing to the horsefeathers packers for the 57th time since 2011 would sour any positive season memories for me.
  4. And if the trade for an arm people thought trading cam smith was an overpay for Tucker imagine the blow back trading Cassie+Wiggins for Cabrera.
  5. Thanks for clarifying. So Busch will still platoon then.
  6. What am I missing with Austin? He hasn’t taken a major league at bat since 2019 and he’s penciled in as a quality bench bat?
  7. That’s what I’m saying. How much unused $ does Jed need for possible deadline trades where costs are at a premium? The time to move someone is now if that’s what it takes to add a sexy bat.
  8. Move Rae or Tailon they’ll still have Horton, Boyd, Cabrera, Shota, Tailon/Rae, Assad and Wicks. They’re also log jammed with positional depth as well. As of right now they’re beyond prepared to deal with any injuries. If a trade goes down at the deadline I’m sure they could negotiate a trade partner eating some salary. Jed doesn’t use the cash he sits on anyways because he refuses to make lopsided trades. Move whoever you can so you can add an impact bat and pray for health.
  9. If Cabrera struggles with injuries I wonder if his future is in the bullpen as a high leverage arm.
  10. Suarez best fit would be splitting time at DH with Bellestaros as a platoon option if they whiff on all sexy bats. Even then I doubt he’d want to play here with other opportunities to be an every day starter.
  11. His x stats profiled similarly in 2023 as well but with very balanced home road splits for whatever reason. But that short porch definitely has a Coors effect. I’d be disappointed if we landed him.
  12. I know they’re not trading a pitcher at the deadline. I didn’t word it properly.
  13. I meant to say flip him in the offseason or really any movable pitcher. It’s a risk but to make Tucker a possibility then trading a pitcher seems like the route to go. I just used him as an example since he’s the most tradable to stay under the LT.
  14. The rotation will be 7 deep when Steele returns. That’s with or without Assad if he’s part of the Cabrera package. Would flipping Taillon be a possibility to free up $ for Tucker and stay comfortably under the LT? He’s a better roster fit than an infielder.
  15. Best possible outcome. Put that extra $ to good use.
  16. You’re right. I thought it was 2/$34 for some reason.
  17. Much better than paying for what’s available. No go get a bat.
  18. Fried is making $27.25 million per year, not sure if it comes with deferred $ or not while Boyd and Rae come in at $26 million. But it Sounds like a Rickets thing. If “sustained success” is a stated goal then sunken costs on long term contracts will hurt you financially in 2032. I’ll repeat myself again with how similar it is to the 2000’s Sox and even the Rose era Bulls.
  19. I’m not saying he should he should hand out multiple $300 million contracts but is the goal to be the Steelers of baseball or perhaps something similar to the Rangers or Phillies? There’s drawbacks to that obviously and Jed has chosen a different path. $27-$30 million in 6 years wont be as costly as it is now due to inflation. Hes kept all of the young talent. He can stay under the LT while paying one player $27-30 million with years attached. Like in my Max Fried hypothetical. They’re not the padres who are on the hook for Machado, Tatis and Boggarts who’ve also traded prospects for Soto and Mason Miller. That’s a lot of sunken costs in the future. My Max Fried hypothetical for example. Rae+Boyd make equivalent AAV.
  20. Not in hindsight and I’m sure jed took the injuries into consideration too. Jed uses good judgment and in no way do I think he’s a bad a GM. Trea Turner or Seager back in 2022 you could argue they would’ve been better off with. A difference of between $2 and $7.5 million AAV. Jed’s refusal to give out the years for free agent slam dunks hurts them in the immediate. For $8 years $218 million Max Fried was available. Instead for equivalent AAV he found great value in Boyd and Rae. Who would the Cubs be better off with? In a best of playoff series I’m taking fried over innings over Boyd and Rae who was of no use pitching with a lead.
  21. I mixed him up with Ohtani. My bad.
  22. Freddie freeman wasn’t a need for the Dodgers either. They had a perfectly capable Michael Busch. He was a luxury. Cubs aren’t interested in luxury.
  23. He’s in the college football HOF, not canton.
