  1. I'm having a bit of a disagreement with my Dad. He insists that Cub Convention tickets have been shipped and should be in hand before Christmas. Everywhere I looked (ebay, stubhub, etc) says they'll ship on 12/29 (if any date is given at all). I purchased some tickets for him from ebay and told him they wouldn't be in by Christmas and he's worried. So, has anyone gotten their tickets in hand, yet?
  2. Definitely one of the worst pitchers in RBI baseball. RIP, DSmith.
  3. it's cool. The cubs will get shut out, but win the game 0 to -1 due to a sweet run saving catch by Joey Joe!
  4. hy are they not tneder?
  5. i'm [expletive] faced of crown royal and len peavy should ptich for the cobs.amen.
  6. McFadden!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I can't imagine that Maddux has too many fond memories as a cub. . . . 1988 saw him go 15-3 in the 1st half only to have the team suck balls in the 2nd half and he ends up 18-8. 1989 was nice, no doubt about it. 1992 was a Cy Young year and a hack job GM. 1993 - 2003 was nothing but post season appearances, Cy Young Awards, and a world series title. 2004 --- supposed to be THE year for the Cubs. . . . 2005 --- I'm sure he was soooooo glad that Neifi saved the season for them. 2006 ---- Traded to the Dodgers I love Maddux, but he's a Brave great who got his start with the Cubs. The 300th win was gravy for Cub fans.
  8. True. . . . used to be a Sandberg argument, but the writers finally got it right. Ooops, did I do it again?
  9. I hope he thanks Larry Himes in his HoF induction speech.
  10. see what I mean? I had no intention in this turning into a Dawson argument.
  11. I seem to remember back in the late 80s or early 90s a stat called "runs created." It was (runs + RBI) - HR = Runs Created
  12. I want the bastards who voted against Ronny to simply explain why they did what they did.
  13. I can tell you this much -- they're crap unless they have a good OBP.
  14. What is is about the Baseball HoF that polarizes people like it does? This is on the borderline guys I suppose, but it's so strange. For example, I say I think Andre Dawson is a hall of famer and you won't find a fan who's indifferent or one who really doesn't care much. You get heated arguments. Same thing with Santo and other players. People are passionate about the baseball hall of fame. I think it's a pretty cool phenomenon. I don't particularly like the mindset that a person is somehow dumb / stupid / idiotic for thinking XYZ player is a hall of famer, but I guess that is what makes the "arguments" fun. Another cool thing about the baseball hall of fame --- when a baseball player retires (like Mussina), the media and fans immediately start with the "is he a hall of famer" conversations even though he won't be eligible for 5 years. You don't hear that kind of talk when a football player or basketball player retires.
  15. Also, what's the talk about Rickey playing in the steroid era? The bulk of his career was prior to 1995.
  16. It sticks in my mind it's usually around the end of July. Yes, it is always hot as balls. The HOFers are always dripping with sweat. Come on, you're from the south. You should know better. Back in '05, I went for Ryno's induction. It was sunny and 82 degrees at 1:00 on induction day. Those people were fanning themselves and bitching and moaning about how hot it was. Try spending the middle of the day in a cow pasture in south Arkansas on July 31 --- you'd kill for 82 degrees :) As for Rickey, which ever writer fails to vote for him should be stripped of all credentials on the spot. There is not one reason why Rickey should be in.
  17. Grace was a hero of mine growing up, but he shouldn't get one vote. He didn't do anything hall worthy.
  18. He has a family That's true, but he probably spends more time with the Cub organization than he does with his family (just like most of us do with our own jobs). Seems like it would be more difficult to stay where you're not wanted than to move to another team. I'd have to believe that there's a good chance that he posture for the best trade possible (for he and his family).
  19. At what point does a guy like Lee say "screw it" and accept a trade? It may be obvious that his current club doesn't want him. That's one thing I never understood about NTC. Once you're asked to waive it, the writing is probably on the wall . . . .
  20. we should trade him
  21. How would he compare playing in front of the home crowd at Notre Dame with pitching a tight game in front of the home crowd at Wrigley. My initial thought is that there is about 100,000 people at ND, so a game at Wrigley is a walk in the park. . . . but there's the aspect of all eyes being on him at Wrigley --- much more scrutinized, I suppose. I'd be interested in hearing his thoughts.
  22. I really wish. The dummies who run the Hall of Fame archives are a bunch of mugwumps and refuse to get in the modern age and put a lot of their stuff online. They have sooooo much stuff at their disposal. I loved my trip to Cooperstown, but right away you realize that it's a crock of poop. The National Baseball Museum really should be a tad larger than the average american home. That place needs to be 5-10 times larger.
  23. I never understood how Ott could hit as well as he did with that funky stance / swing. Good stuff, OMC. Do you freaking have an apartment located in the Cooperstown Archives?
  24. okay, now I'm pissed off.
  25. Welcome, dude. I like your thinking, but I have to have my doubts on whether Fontenot can sustain that production for an entire year. . . . . . he's so tiny. It's strange, but I'm not all that upset about Kerry moving on. I understand they don't want to lay out $10 million for a closer who has such a high probability of getting a serious arm injury during the length of the contract he's supposedly earned. I certainly wish we could have retained him, but poop happens.
