  1. Something has to be going on for them to have not accepted an offer yet...
  2. Boras better have been asking 5/100 if we didn't bid $13 million...
  3. Still, if it took a two year opt out clause to get him to sign, give it. If he outplays his contract, i'll take my chances in two years.
  4. This year the Seibu's can offer the winning team leverage over Daisuke. If he refuses the clubs offer, he could be forced back to Japan for two whole years. Next season, the bid would be less because Daisuke would have the leverage.
  5. Have to be stupid to not sign him. Yes, he's an injury risk, but he played in 145 and 146 games 2 out of the last 3 years, so it's not like he didn't play. Sign Drew for 4/50, sign Lofton to a one year deal to be his backup and rest him once in a while, and we're good to go.
  6. And it's not like he's being given the rotation spot, if he sucks he'll wind up in the Glendon longman role and eat innings in blowouts.
  7. I think Aram counters 5/75 and they take it.
  8. Resigning him had to be a no brainer since he was willing to take a one year deal. He'll (presumably) be coming into spring training healthy, which is a big change from the past two seasons for him. I'm willing to bet that Wade Miller has one more solid year in his arm, and it mine as well be with us.
  9. Lets face it, if we do not sign Aramis we are finished for next season and beyond. Back to back disaster years and we don't get any decent free agent in '08. Aramis Ramirez will not be a roadblock to our team next year at $15 million.
  10. Prior + Miller = one spot filled IMO. That's a good point. I'm more than willing to accept Miller+Prior+young guys=5th starter. So long as we bring in an acceptable 4th starter (Batista, Padilla, etc.) and sign a top of the rotation starter (Schmidt please).
  11. Reliever + prospects for Sheff, let Jacque spend Spring Training learning to play Center, find yourselves a center field platoon partner for Jacque (who preferebly can also handle a few righties if there's anyone that Murton would be better off sitting against) and you're done with your outfield!
  12. Assuming it's under $3 million, it's a good signing. Though I wonder if Hendry will consider this his "tier B" signing and only bring in one more starter. :?
  13. The perfect scenario is where everyone else is lowballing Seibu and nobody told the Cubs, who happily make their $20 million dollar non-bid and find out it was a little better than they thought. :D
  14. I think the winning bid will be lower than expected because of the Boras factor. He isn't going to let the kid sign a lowball contract because he can always come back next year for his big payday. Our best hope might be a $20 million posting fee and a 3/35 contract that releases Daisuke as a free agent at the end. so 3/55. Steep, but we have to do something.
  15. 21 might do it. Unless Boras is feeding teams contract parameters, I can't see anyone trusting that they'll be able to overpay on the posting fee and get a deal on the contract itself.
  16. Well, crap. Wonder if this ups our bid for Matsuzaka, since Hendry will look a little dumb for touting his overseas scouting if we don't wind up signing any overseas players.
  17. I'd kill for a Cub/Sammy makeup. I always thought all the stuff that happened (beaning, cork incident, nagging injuries, etc.) represented much of his decline. Steroids or not, he could have one last run in him after resting his body for a year. Especially if he were a bit humbled and willing to listen to advice from the coaches. Never happen though :(
  18. If he'll go to San Fran surely he'll come to Chicago.
  19. As a fifth outfielder or something? Sure. And if he bounces back he can move up the depth chart, if he earns it.
  20. Ok. The Blue Jays, just looking at their stats (don't follow that team closely) doesn't have a ton of talent at shortstop. So lets start the offer with Cesar Izturis and remind them he's an All-Star. Next, lets add Ryan Dempster to the mix. To us he's the shaky closer with the 4.80 ERA. To them he'd be their 4th or 5th best starting pitcher, maybe better. Sell them on the fact that his style is better suited for starting anyway. Better to give up 2 or 3 runs over seven innings than over one. Now, what if you could add Pie to the deal, and the Blue Jays would take on the extra payroll? We upgrade insanely in center field. I'd probably request a period to negotiate an extension first, though. The jays fill three positions by trading one guy. It maybe bites us in the ass when Pie becomes the player we hope he can be. At least he'll be in the AL and it won't be rubbed in our face everyday. If they'd do it, I'd consider it, we go bigtime in center and actually wind up saving a little cash. Cash we could pile onto something else. :D Dunno if I'd do it, but it's tempting.
  21. It all depends on the cost. For a couple mid-level prospects? Sure, he can help us, he's already an upgrade over Pierre in center, and if we do better there, he can work himself into the equation for the two middle infield spots. Wouldn't you rather have Theriot at short and Figgins at second than have Izturis in there? Now, if the price is greater, it all depends on the price. And speaking of Mr. Arthritic Piece of Crap himself, he might be a good piece of a deal, but that's better served in the Vernon Wells thread. :D
  22. mlbtraderumors may be right for once Um, seriously? That degrading comment regarding mlbtraderumors might have been appropriate a year ago when it had no credibility, but over the course of the year Tim Dierks' (who writes for the much loved rotoworld) credibility has grown leaps and bounds. He has learned when to post and when not to post rumors and to appropriately divulge the credibility of the source and work to find corroboration. Remember in those first two weeks when he said Cameron and Nady would be swapped and multiple cubs pitching prospects (naming Pinto and Nolasco) would be traded for Pierre? Everyone thought he was a raving loony. Glad to hear that, maybe this is true. Hopefully they've nailed down the biggest roadblock, the number of years, and can just concentrate on the numbers for each year. :D 11,13,15,15,13, with a vesting player option of a sixth year for 13, making the agent able to promote it as a 6/80 contract. Perfect.
  23. Eh, he's much better than Rusch. Glendon has WHIPs of 1.75, 1.23 (the year he was good), 1.57, and 1.79 the last four years. Heilmans are 1.84, 1.43, 1.15, and 1.16. No doubt who the better pitcher is. I like it, I'd give up Eyre for him. It would be hard to get me to trade Wuertz just because he's going to be too cheap for too long to give up.
  24. He might get 14, but I'm hoping it's with the Cubs. With the payroll wallet opened up there's no excuse to not pay him what we have to. "Full market value"? Sure, why not. Better than having Mike Lowell at third.
