  1. Sweep the Brewers, laugh as the Mets get swept, laugh as the LAstros sweep the Braves, send the Iowa Cubs to Houston to kill their dreams too and/or grab some popcorn and watch the Brewers/Mets tiebreaker. It's way too early and I'm way too tired on a Friday morning to even be sure all of those could happen, lol, but that would be fun.
  2. We're just lucky that Farnsworth is long gone. If they stopped serving after the top of the 7th...he wouldn't be available to pitch the top of the 7th. :-)) Damn, that was post 2000. Only took me five years to get there! Haha.
  3. Trying to decide between the Mets and Brewers feels a little morbid. Probably for the same reason I've never invested in a cow. Just not the kind of guy who can look at two poor pathetic animals and pick which one to slaughter. Probably for the best to just let both teams grind themselves into the ground and see what happens. Mets, Dodgers, eh...I'm not afraid. Sweet jeebus, I'm a Cubs fan and I just said I'm not afraid. What's wrong with me...
  4. I want to put it to the Mets. Then I want to put it to the Brewers. And in my dreams they have to play a tiebreaker. Usually ends with CC on a stretcher but then I wake up. :-))
  5. Sigh, if Carrol is right then it's really dumb to pitch Z again before the playoffs. Just rest him.
  6. Yup, it is pretty obvious that this is the best play-off rotation. Harden/Dempster/Z/Lilly is better. I'd rather Dempster go first. There's a much better chance of him going 7+ than with Harden. I'd prefer Harden for game two knowing we might need a number of bullpen options. Then at least you have an off day so we don't worry about anyone not being 100% in Game 3. Doesn't really matter though. Lets get this going and Go Cubs Go!
  7. Actually, it is James. Maybe try protesting on the South Side? They won't be playing baseball on the South Side at that time. :) Let 'em protest. Wrigley will be swamped in a sea of people anyway. Nobody will notice.
  8. Eh, bottom of the 7th of a clinching game isn't booze time anyway. It's doob time. \:D/
  9. I don't hate Kosuke, but I pray that he spends the offseason working with someone who can help him...
  10. Well, if we have to play that Monday I hope the 2008 Iowa Cubs try really hard to win. :-))
  11. For some reason I fully expect Ryan Dempster to still be on the team next year. I just worry I'm going to hate his looming 4/40 contract really quickly.
  12. You'd almost have a point if Len hadn't spent six pages already interacting with us **here**. Almost... Anywho, thanks for taking the time to talk with us here Len. You do a wonderful job and make each game I get to hear you call better. But since a response to your music list was Modzilla'd (good call!) I'll give it a crack. I like R.E.M./Elvis Costello & The Attractions/Bob Dylan/Grateful Dead/Drive-By Truckers/My Morning Jacket/Modest Mouse/Nickel Creek/Umphrey's McGee/Phish :D
  13. What Ron Santo brings to the table has absolutely nothing to do with traditional sports broadcasting. If that's the debate, then fine, the haters win. Almost every town in America has local sports broadcasters who would be more proficient at what they do than Ron Santo. But that's not why we love him. We love the emotion and heart he brings. We love (most of) his stories. We love that he says what he's thinking and means what he says. Good or bad. The honesty and love of the game. And so on. Things you can't exactly put down on paper and qualify but I think, someday when (God forbid) Ron isn't around, people are going to be able to feel missing. Same with Harry really. For the last decade of his career you could have found thousands of announcers more skilled at their profession. But damned if I would not give up a single Holy Cow for a lifetime of more technical announcers. As the 80's hairband song goes "don't know what you've got, til it's gone". I've missed Harry for just about every single game since he passed on. I'm going to miss Ron for just about every single game when he passes on. If you're taking this so super serial that you just cannot live with maybe missing a few plays a year due to Ron, the least of your worries in life is Ron freaking Santo and his color commentary skills. It's a game. It's supposed to be played by those who love it and called by those who loved it. This modern era of players who care 10 times more about their salary than their team, and announcers who may be as proficient as it gets but have no heart are a good reason why the game has lost a bit of it's luster. Or, to put it another way, had Babe Ruth been lucky enough to live 30+ years after his retirement you can damn well bet he would have wound up in a Yankees booth. And people would have loved him, no matter how often he came to work a little loaded or how often he rambled and missed a play. In my opinion, Ronny has earned his job until they can pry it out of his cold dead hands.
  14. I want to take my son to at least one game at Wrigley, just so he can have that feeling that I had when my dad took me for my first game. In my dream world we'd get both. The Cubs would build a new stadium but Wrigley wouldn't be tore down. Instead it could become the defacto Chicago Cubs museum and otherwise be used by youth sports and/or college and high school teams. With the Cubs continuing to play a series or two per season there. But then I generally wake up and it's time for work. :(
  15. Want a new ballpark Carlos? Win the damn series this year. I'm going to shed tears if they ever tear Wrigley down. I'll shed approximately 50% less if it's after a World Series win.
  16. Ugh, lets win a few so we can take Cinderella's "Don't Know What You Got Til It's Gone" off the table...
  17. I'd be shocked if every member of the team didn't mutter "F--- You Z" at least once a season. All that fire and guts are great when things go well. But it's still the same emotional guy when things don't go well. Much ado about nothing. Z didn't grab Theriot and rip his head off and scream "FATALITY!". Wake me up when he does...
  18. Man Z is hard headed. I don't care if a test showed his shoulder in perfect condition. I still don't want him making his next two starts. It's funny, but that injection just might save our asses in the postseason. Anything to make Big Z rest for a few weeks.
  19. Less talking more pulling vid out of thin air k thx
  20. I think it's about time for Bob Howry to suddenly discover arm soreness and shut it down.
  21. Great video, well done. If you told me when we traded for him that I would actually hope we re-sign him to a 1 year contract...I would have thought you'd lost it.
  22. I don't think that Geo deserves the MVP award, but I think he's done well enough to not blink if he gets a vote or two. He should be kept happy by the ROY award anyway.
  23. Geovany Soto will be replacing Arnold in the next Terminator film. Or at least he should...
  24. What a breath of fresh air Soto has been. With the way he handles the pitchers, you'd take anything he gave you with the bat as gravy. And an .850 OPS is a whole lot of freaking gravy. I kind of hope the Cubs think long term with Soto early. Lock him up for a while at the point he'll sign for the least.
  25. Don't panic. If we're still talking about this in 2 weeks...then you panic.
