  1. Pretty sure that Eyre gets a medical necessity pass. This blog entry quotes a now offline Tribune article about it. So unless things have changed since 2006, he should still be able to take it.
  2. Tell ya, Joe Morgan + HD on ESPN (FU Comcast, give me WGN in Hd damnit) sure makes for frequent use of the FF-1 option. Typical pitch is "STFU Joe, stop right before pitch, PITCH". Hehe.
  3. Anecdote for levity though. When I talked to my dad right after the win tonight, his comment was "yeah, I remember being awfully pumped around this time in 1969..." Lol, you were like 11 then dad. I assume you weren't as chemically altered during those games. Ha.
  4. Whoops. Fix-ed-ed the title. Hehe, too many 'WTF is cheapest" Ice's on a fine Sunday evening. =D>
  5. Man, what a freaking game. Dempster. Jeebus freaking wtf. Thus far he is one of those great "if I only knew then what I know now" seasons of a lifetime. You go back to March 2008 and I will be the last person who bet on Ryan freaking Dempster being 9-2 with a sub 3 ERA on June 22nd. Incredible game. Ramirez is on an incredible tear. I'm hearing the surname "Patterson" and not cringing in uncontrollable pain. 48-28. Twenty freaking games over .500. I've lived and died with the Cubs since the day I entered this earth in the winter of '80. But damned if it doesn't feel awful freaking great to be a Cubs fan on this wonderful evening. Soriano is down. Zambrano on the DL. And i find myself feeling more "hurry back" than "holy BLEEP" and that's a wonderful thing. May not be a man who believes too deeply in any specific but I've seen enough in my 28 years on this earth to pay close attention 100 bleeping years after the Chicago Cubs last won a World Series. Incredible time to be alive and as much as i live and die on whatever the current day in the saga of the Chicago Cubs is...go Cubs and I think the words never needed spoken more...Holy Cow...
  6. Too bad the idiots running the Sox didn't let him get surgery five months ago. Then, you know, he might have had a decent shot at trying again next year. As is, probably toast.
  7. In a perfect world Edmonds would go on a tear and help us to the World Series. He'd then leave via free agency and sign a fresh 3 year deal with the Cardinals. Then he'd go back to sucking.
  8. Oh crap, Kerry Wood allowed an earned run today. Reducing a lead of 4 to, gasp, 3. Budhouse in 3...2...1...
  9. Hell, to me I'm usually surprised at how easy most players fade away. If I were a MLB player I would do just about anything to hang on and make just one more team for one more season. In fact, it surprises me that you never have players trying to talk teams into gimme September tours of duty to be glorified coaches/mentors. If I were in my 40's and had just a little bit left in me, I'd sure be hoping for one. I imagine a September spent mostly sitting on the bench in a MLB park would beat a September spent just about any other way. Of course, if I were a HOF caliber player that would be different. I wouldn't want to extend my clock just to sit on the bench.
  10. I doubt they move him after trading away Milledge and Gomez. The two guys who could have taken his spot. I imagine they'd demand Felix Pie in the package. And I imagine they'd give him a fair chance to be an MLB player.
  11. Maybe he's been juicing like a mutha since last Friday? Shouldn't be worse against RHP than Reed Johnson? That's the best I got...
  12. Avery still have an arm? Lets expand this reunion tour.
  13. Sigh. Best praise I can offer is that Pie was going to rot on the bench otherwise and Edmonds probably won't do worse against RHP than Johnson. High praise indeed... I would rather have thrown Cedeno out there and gotten a longer look at his bat.
  14. You're actually lucky. I checked the Magic 8 Ball and it said if you would have went disaster would have happened. Something about you fighting for a homerun ball and being shoved over the basket and drug off of Wrigley Field while you cry about the whole "broken leg" thing. Good call. :good:
  15. Hell, I'd settle for Dave Roberts. At least he isn't signed for 2009...
  16. Sent to the pen is my choice. Unless, of course, someone is stupid enough to trade for him. Otherwise put Gallagher in the rotation for a couple of rounds until Hill gets his stuff back. Seeing what Sean has a starter would be much more valuable than watching Marquis suffer. Just toss Marquis to the back of the pen and let him be the longman. At least then when he pitches it will usually not matter how bad he is.
  17. I'm at work 2 more hours and I'm bored. I've seen Land of the Dead. I understand the logic behind keeping a troll/zombie alive for personal amusement.
  18. Remember folks, Trolls only come back if you keep feeding them.
  19. If they've really given up on Pie they need to just send him down. Bring Murton back up who will be a more useful compliment to Fukudome when he needs to rest. Murton isn't really a RF but Ward REALLY isn't a RF. Pie either needs to play or he needs to go down. He may have nothing to prove against AAA pitching but it'd be better for him to stay sharp against it than to sit on the bench.
  20. This might just be Lou's way of lighting a fire under Rich's butt. I'd be shocked if he follows through and bumps Rich anytime soon.
  21. How about instead of officially removing anyone from the rotation we simply slot Lieber in for a start and give Hill and Lilly an extra day of rest. You know, to work on things. Heaven forbid that Lieber throws a shutout and both Lilly and Hill bounce back. Oh noes, one too many starting pitchers. What ever will we do...
  22. No, I think that Kerry needs to call up Road Warrior Animal and buy a set of shoulder pads. Hmm, or maybe that getup Vader wore early in his NWA/WCW tenure. Something TOUGH. Warpaint too, maybe.
  23. Something tells me that Ryan contacted Robert Johnson's kin and found out how to contact an old family friend... lol, I'll take it.
  24. No, but Center field is. I know, hes a left fielder, but surely, with his speed he could handle center, or put Fuku there and put Kenny in Rt. If we were gonna put Fuku in Center, why not just play Murton in Right? Signing Lofton would be a microcosm of what has been wrong with the Cubs historically. Or if we're putting Fuku in center, why not just play Murton in Left? Somehow I think Fonzie can figure out Right Field.
  25. Glad I'm not the only one that wound up feeling sick to their stomach after reading this thread... Neither of our options are any good. We're fighting over two players who both are likely to have an OPS between .600 and .700. It's like we're fighting over whether we should drive the Chevette or the Gremlin. Every way we're driving crap. I'd do the same things you guys would. Theriot to bench, Fontenot to minors, Patterson up and playing 2nd, DeRosa to short. But it just isn't going to happen. Lou can't even figure out that no matter who is playing between Ronny and Ryan they should be hitting 8th. If we're stuck with Ryan Theriot as our shortstop for the foreseeable future then we need to get behind him. The fact is we're all talking out our asses when we make predictions in regard to both Theriot and Cedeno. Mine as well get behind the guy who has the job.
