Last guy in the deal from the Cubs is SP Ty Johnson, who has had a good year for the Cubs and put up some nice stats beyond the ERA, wonder if we're sleeping on him a bit?

As a positive, since Parades was originally a Cub I assume they aren't ignorant on his unusual power profile and seemingly poor raw power. He may not continue the 130 wRC+at Wrigley but hopefully he still puts up solid power #'s. He walks, doesn't chase, and puts the ball in play which is nice. On pace for over 4 WAR this season again. A bit shocking we were able to land him for what we gave up.

If Morel can't field and doesn't have a future at a position on this team where he might be ok (middle infield?) then I can't see them regretting trading Morel. Morel's a DH for us going forward, especially when Shaw arrives. We have Ballesteros and literally any other prospect or player who can play DH. I would trade a DH for a solid 3B any day, especially for a team that needs a 3B bad. The fact that this actually improves us on paper for 2024 and we don't have to throw this season away is a plus too. Taillon or others could still be moved though.

I believe Wrigley has the furthest foul poles in the majors, and Paredes is a dead-pull hitter where all his power is right down the LF line, especially this year. His bat speed and exit velo are actually poor. I think this can be a solid trade for both teams. - Parades can help the Cubs both this season and going forward, and gives them flexibility with Shaw/Triantos, meaning the Cubs could trade one of Nico/Swanson in coming seasons if they wanted, or deal either of those prospects (less likely). - Morel has upside for TB if they can find a position for him. -Interesting that the Cubs continue to deal away quality pen talent (e.g. Effross, Bigge) despite pen woes the last 2 seasons . Guess they have faith in finding projects like Merryweather and Pearson and developing them.

Current Cubs brand is that of corporate grab-hands with their fingers in your wallet. Very inspiring to the loyal fanbase that grew up supporting this company. -
Merryweather-type acquisition let's hope. Obvious upside, maybe some tweaks can lower the HR/9.

Its not personal, its just competitors tired of sucking. You can't keep those frustrations bottled in all the time, if you're passionate about winning it's going to come out in the moment, especially when as a team you've been fighting to not get broken up by the FO at this point. I can't be mad at any of them for getting mad, or get mad at Seiya for not being a great fielder, i'm sure he's trying his best. Counsell can't tell them not to care.

I don't think Taillon's remaining contract is a detriment to his trade value.

We got Ben Brown for David Robertson, a reliever pending FA. It's very possible Taillon could bring something of value. He's replaceable in FA.

Going forward the Cubs have some INF options. They have Shaw who we assume can play 3B or 2B, and Triantos at 2B. That means they can acquire a short-term or long-term 3B and in the case of the latter when either of the above are ready eventually trade Nico, or shift Nico to SS and trade Swanson (though Nico is a FA after 2026). Rather than getting older and more expensive with a 30+ y/o Bregman or Chapman etc the ideal is to get young and cheap and pull a Busch or a Parades type trade. That's why i'd keep Shaw if possible. That money can then be spent elsewhere, like a Soto or another FA or extending whomever in the future.

Just looked at Paredes on BB Savant and a lot of batted ball percentile ratings are terrible, but have been the last 3 seasons. His expected stats aren't good either. His exit velo and bat speed are bad. It's possible he's been really lucky. No idea how he's hit all those HR with his profile.

I don't usually complain about umps but that one was terrible. Cubs offense sucks so there's that too LOL.

They're squeezed for CF. Tauchman was PH for the previous inning, Wisdom was in RF. Only things they could have done is moved Morel to CF and Mastro stays to play 3B, or put Seiya from DH to OF and he or Happ in CF and forefeit the DH spot and have the pitcher or whomever hit. They have 7 INF on the roster but only 4 OF where all 4 are usually in the lineup most days. Maybe Canario should come up and Wisdom sent down or something. I think they need a PH option for PCA.

Problem is for next year we have Mastrobuoni to replace Hoerner and a CF who can't get hits besides bunting and can't drive a ball that's above his ankles. If we trade anyone including Taillon I hope the prospects are at least in AA. Getting MLB talent back at the deadline when selling isn't easy. I think we're about a year away until Caissie, Shaw, Triantos, Ballesteros are ready. Alcantara is in the mix too though seems a bit behind those other guys. We'll need players until they're ready, though I think the upside for some of those guys like Triantos and Ballesteros are limited.

Steele is a legit ace and one of the best SP in baseball, and a bulldog competitor to boot. Trading him in his prime with 3 seasons to go before FA making pre-FA money would be one of the dumbest moves in franchise history.

Well I can remember the Andy MacPhail Cubs putting up green blockers along the fence all around the back of the bleachers to obstruct the rooftop view. Did the Cubs want a cut of the rooftops revenue? I can't remember. The Cubs should be able to do whatever they want to their ballpark without regard of the rooftops, and the rooftops should be able to have a view of the game if there is one. I don't get why the Cubs would feel threatened in any way unless they're being super cheap. Not sure what kind of court case the rooftops could ever have against the Cubs since the Cubs should be able to do whatever they want to their own property.
