  1. Well Saurez (also on Cleveland) is definitely gone at some point.
  2. The Cubs typically acquire players who provide the best value for the cost and i assume they'll do that here. They did it with Stroman, Imanaga, Rea, Boyd, and did the same with previous trades A year or 2 of extra control will be baked into the cost of the player and the Cubs will calculate that. The Cubs don't have much control over what other teams will demand for an SP. I don't really care who they acquire as SP as long as they're at least solid and come at good cost.
  3. I don't think we can conclude much from 1 start. His FB velo is still excellent, but you don't get whiffs and K's from FB or FB velo His FB is getting mashed. His control has been good recently, he still generates lots of groundballs. He's not getting whiffs or chase and thus K's this season, even over the last month or 2. His secondaries aren't back to where they were for whatever reason. Cade Horton is getting whiffs and chase but not K's, but Alcantara isn't getting any of the 3. He has upside but every FO in the league knows that, so I think you're going to pay for that upside. Right now I think he's an average to maybe slightly above-average SP with upside for more.
  4. We're still a good team but not quite as good as we've played in the first half given the pen luck and luck avoiding with position player injuries.
  5. Given the pen has greatly overachieved and is likely to regress and may already be happening, I think we have a below-average pitching staff. Factor in our very good defense who are obviously helping our pitchers and it becomes very apparent. Rea, Assad, Taillon. These are below average to average at best. We need to do better. This isn't a team built to win a WS, it's built to have a good shot to get into the playoffs and hope for the best. That's all ownership cares about and we have to live with that. This is a business and their goal is to make money, not to win.
  6. I love Boog's red framed glasses. It makes him look like a woman and I'm feeling it
  7. The fact we're in 2nd place is mind-boggling. I don't like the Brewers but I can tip my cap to that org. Incredible job they do season after season. They lost their POBO, their manager, their ace and their closer etc and just keep going. Great FO transactions, great development, extremely value focused.
  8. If that dumb beyotch Ricketts opened his pockets at all last winter maybe we'd have a better SP than Colin Rea and not have to trade prospects for one. Cubs currently 14th in the MLB in lux tax payroll at 215m! If we're 3rd in revenue we should have a tax payroll around 300m. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/tax
  9. They seem to do that with outsiders they acquire, yet all the SP they develop throw batting practice fastballs. Maybe it's a coincidence, who knows. I'm just venting and ranting like a madman.
  10. And Boyd could hit the wall at any time. I'm glad the Cubs are at least very aware of the issues for Boyd/Horton/Brown and giving these guys extra rest.
  11. Wicks' fastball sucks too. Is there a SP the Cubs developed that doesn't have a terrible fastball? I'm 100% convinced Steele's fastball is a complete accident because ain't no way the Cubs taught him that.
  12. I'm beginning to think our pitching development is complete trash. I have about a decade of receipts.
  13. This pitching staff is held together with duct tape.
  14. I like that idea. A solid supersub that can play CF who isn't Brujan would be nice.
  15. I agree with them that they need to rest guys more.
  16. Kudos to this website for allowing us posters to easily cut and paste screen snip images into these forums. Must save you work with the game threads also.
  17. PCA not starting today. Seiya in CF and Turner at DH. Wonder if he's banged up. Odd time to give him a day off right after the ASB. But it's a LHP, however a reverse-splits guy.
  18. I don't think they're as good as us. I'm not even scoreboard watching.
  19. They also have the best baserunning in baseball. They're 7th in the MLB in runs scored, 4th in NL.
  20. Agree. Individual elite hitters or bad hitters etc aren't relevant at all. What matters is the combined total output of all hitters on your team. How you get there doesn't matter.
  21. He'll make more in 2-3 months than i'll make in my entire life. How depressing.
