  1. Zeferjahn is also getting 40% whiffs on his sweeper this year and last, and 45%+ on his curve. His stuff has truly been elite per his K/9.
  2. Could be they wanted to give more him experience at 3B to increase versatility. Played only 6 games at 3B last year, was mostly SS plus some 2B.
  3. Yeah. It's just all-around odd he was in state junior college for some years before Marshall. A true late bloomer.
  4. Thanks. BR shows he was catching before he switched to full-time so at least he's wasn't new to the position. Probably grew up catching, at least partially.
  5. This guy has been getting 41% whiffs on his 4-seam this year, which is Mason Miller/the Miz terrority. Looks like he added more cut to it since last season.
  6. Outdated now, but in April this guy with Lance who watched him in the AFL said Ayers has a sub-1.85 pop-time and the Cubs love his framing, but was clunky receiving in the AFL. Do you know what the Cubs or anyone else thinks of his receiving abilities?
  7. I'll say that the Cubs know 100x more about their own prospects than we do. I trust their evaluations.
  8. I personally don't think the sign+extend thing is much of a calculation with Jed deals. There's no guarantees with them so the value is minimal. Both pitchers will also be 34/36 next year, not exactly ages Jed should like. If any has a chance to extend it would be Holmes because of the groundballs and younger age, but for me I'm assuming he's gone after this year.
  9. Fair enough! Does that mean the Cubs like Ayers better than Mo? Where would Mo fit if still on the top prospect list?
  10. There's no way the Cubs ditch on Detmers because of Ayers IMO. I'd rather go Detmers for Ayers+ than Holmes for Rojas. Reality is the Cubs weren't going to trade Ayers+Mo today. Id like to know how the Cubs feel about Ayers' glove. A 70 arm from Cubs.com is very impressive to start.
  11. If their pen is beatable then what does that make ours? Diaz is back before this Cubs series
  12. I think Mo will catch at least part-time, but we all know he's almost certainly below-average defensively and so do the Cubs and Angels. I also am not convinced this deadline necessarily says anything about Ayers. It could be very well that the Angels liked Mo better than Ayers. We shouldn't assume things, we don't know how any teams value anyone, which is the issue with us fans evaluating any of these TDL moves.
  13. This is why you get as many pieces as you think you'll need in the offseason.
  14. True, unless they like Holmes better in 2026.
  15. Yeah id just keep Rea, he can mop up. Civale/Woodford etc aren't worth keeping over Rea.. Stuff Assad in Iowa to stay stretched, there's more than a few replacement clunkers in the pen right now that can be tossed. They still need some backup SP until Cabrera is back in case of more injuries. But let's hope Rea never has to make another start in a Cubs uni.
  16. Besides Skubal, who would that have been though? Skubal would cost Rojas, Hartshorn, and another good prospect at least
  17. He got Gausman for a bunch of nobody's. The prices are high and Jed went down to the wire to wait to see if they got cheaper. This is just what it cost sometimes at the TDL. They probably really like Holmes in a Cub uni, as they should. He might have been their #1 SP choice after Skubal in terms of production in 2026. They're in it to win this year, they have all the position guys in place. They gave up Torres for 2 months of Chapman in 16. Most might not realize it but this is our 2016. Bregman was signed to win now. He and Dansby are our most expensive players and aren't getting younger. PCA is having an MVP year like Bryant. All our position guys are healthy and in their primes. Happ and Seiya are likely gone this winter. Time to go for it.
  18. Bonus is Holmes hasn't pitched since May so he'll still be fresh in Oct and down the stretch.
  19. I dunno, if we're giving up our very top prospects I'd rather use them in a package for someone controllable than a 2-3 month rental. Holmes is a nice arm though.
  20. It's not like a reliever with lots of Ks and walks is super rare. Heck we DFA'd Estrada when he lost his release point for just a season when normally it was ok. A catcher who can hit like Mo is rare.
  21. Yeah, a month of scuffling isn't huge. Guys can adjust. Swing decisions are rare to change though. He got a wakeup call, let's see if he adjusts with the Angels.
  22. Hopefully. But i wouldn't make a trade based on a 1 month sample of BB/K either. I think the cost may have been a bit too high.
