  1. It could be typical Boras made up hot-air. So who knows. But honestly, Jed would be kicking tires on both Gallen and Valdez anyways IMO, doesn't mean he's as serious about them as he was Bregman, or Belly 2 years ago.
  2. They join Jeff Kent. Thoughts? Always wondered why Jones didn't get in before. His peaks years are fantastic. Probably they best defensive OF ever. I don't like Beltran getting in due to the sign stealing.
  3. There's only one team spending like the Dodgers, and 20 years ago only 1 team spending like the Yankees. They can start with a very reasonable cap, like 350m or something., and add a very modest floor like 115m or whatnot. See how that works and adjust from there in future CBAs. At this point the Dodgers are absolutely hurting the game and everyone but Dodger fans and maybe most elite players think something needs to done. I think a cap/floor (if proportional to each other) probably hurts the contracts for elite players but also probably helps most other players.
  4. That's crazy lol. You'd think they'd try to work out a deal on that one
  5. You're right I have zero statistical evidence to suggest pitchers would lose sharpness with extra rest in a 6-man rotation. I am therefore the first person in the history of this forum to admit I was wrong, hahaha.
  6. I believe they extended Rea with a restructured deal in Nov with a club option for 2027. Would be bad business practice to immediately trade him. He's good value too so hard to see them trading him. I think they could wait for when Steele comes back if they want to trade someone. Better to have too many SP than to be buyers at the deadline again.
  7. I believe ZiPS projections has the Cubs rotation currently ranked 19th in MLB in WAR. We definitely could use an upgrade somewhere.
  8. No I don't. We know guys pitch worse on 3 vs 4 days. I don't have the stats on 5 or 6 days rest. Do you? We could easily see even with a 5 man rotation about 5 days rest effectiveness when there's an off days between starts.
  9. Could be a bench bat, it would be a nice pickup. Jed said at the convention he's looking for a bench OF bat to replace Caissie, and values positional versatility on the bench. Andujar plays all 4 corners and has DH'd. Alcantara has 1 option left apparently so if Andujar is signed Alcantara could be in Iowa and would be called up with an injury to any of the 4 OF. If everyone is healthy Andujar can still platoon at DH with Mo vs LHP and is insurance for Mo in case of injury or struggles.
  10. Was a SS in college. Played 3b/2b/SS in minors. Played 9 games in LF in college also.
  11. I'm not a fan of a 6-nan rotation. 5 days (or 6 with an off-day) between starts is a lot if you want guys to remain sharp. Rather they just limit the pitch count a bit and piggyback the odd man out in relief. Would keep the pen fresher too.
  12. True they may keep Taillon. And yeah they may limit innings/pitches, especially for Horton and Cabrera. They may ideally want Rea and Assad in the pen to pitch multiple innings even if someone in the rotation is hurt. Gallen would make it six SP without those guys and without Brown/Wicks/Steele. If they have around 8-9 guys who can start they have to assume a dew of them may be on the IL at any given time. If they sign Gallen and by miracle all 6 main SP are healthy then Horton could go to the pen and throw multiple innings.
  13. Agree, and I doubt they want to lose him next offseason with Boyd, Shota, Taillon, Rea also hitting FA. I could even see them signing him and trading Taillon now or at the deadline to recoup money and prospects (though wouldn't get too much for him). At the convention Jed also said he's looking for another bench OF to replace Caissie (though a guy with options who could play in Iowa seems ideal there). Have to assume Gallen is likely better than Taillon in 2026 too, and is close to what Taillon was in age and ability when Taillon signed with us so he essentially could replace him.
  14. I can go eff myself because I think its ok for someone to miss a game for a friend's funeral while condemning the views of Kirk and Shaw? This somehow makes me a bad person lol? Once again you're unhinged. All you want to do is hate, so have at it.
  15. That's a lot different than a friend being murdered. I give him a break for missing a game for a friend's funeral, not for his association with these nutjobs.
  16. It was a lot of things, but it was also a memorial service. It's understandable for people hating on Shaw in this political climate because of some of the terrible views of Kirk that Shaw likely also shares, but Shaw only missed one game to attend the funeral. Given your head and heart probably isn't 100% in the game when your friend just got murdered I don't think it's a big deal, so i'm giving him a break on this one.
  17. Tucker deal seems pretty Tucker- friendly. That Bichette deal is pretty good for the Mets.
  18. Winning the WS and then adding Edwin Diaz and Tucker is BS.
  19. What are you talking about? I said our rotation project to have average ERAs and that's exactly what the projections say.
  20. It's not just Steamer, it's all of the projection systems that FG lists. I didn't include Steele, so there's that, but all of the guys who will be with us Opening Day (barring injury) are projected for about average ERAs or worse. FG also projects the Cubs rotation sitting 19th in WAR. 1 projection system has Cabrera at 3.67 ERA, but the other 3 systems have him at around league average 4.00 ERA.
  21. We have Cabrera but Taillon, Shota, Boyd, and Rea will be a year older and any or all of them could age regress. Nobody in our rotation projects as better than an average ERA.
  22. I always thought Nico would make a great supersub. Great athlete who could play any position besides catcher. Won't happen next year though. I'm glad Shaw can give Nico/Swanson the occasional day off and probably DH vs tough lefties. Makes the bench deeper and saves us a bit of cash. I think we dropped about 3m on Berti last year then traded for Castro. We saved about 5m over Turner by going with Austin. That's about 7m saved (8 minus Shaw's salary) that can go towards Bregman (plus going thrifty in the pen rather than getting an established FA closer). I've been wanting Jed to save on the fringe 1 WAR guys for years and put it towards actual talent. He's had a good offseason.
  23. If Nico played SS last year he probably would have hit 5 fWAR due to the extra points given for the positional adjustment.
  24. I think they just have completely opposite personalities.
