    I agree. But sending Roberts or even Wicks back down kicks the can down the road a little before having to make a decision. Wilson might not stick. But they don’t have to make that decision today.

    I would guess Ethan goes back down for a fresh arm. It also is possible Wicks goes back down. I do like the idea of Assad piggybacking today. With the off day Thursday, either he or Shota would be fine going on Saturday. The rest of the week would go Rea & Boyd for SD. Peterson starts against St.L Friday then come back with Shota and Assad in whatever order they decide. Wilson looked good yesterday. Don’t want to lose him after one game when it is just as easy to send Ethan or Jordon down and no risk losing anyone.

    If they are going rental, Gray would be a solid pick up.

    It is ridiculous that they have to start probably their 11th starting pitcher option for this game. Injuries and then having the Monday game moved to a DH on Wednesday really messed the rotation up.

    But down 1 or 2 I am still going Ferguson, Thornton, whatever other low leverage pitcher they have rather than Webb, Theilbar. If they are to stay in a game down a few runs it will have to be with their 12th and 13th pitcher pitching.

    They can resign Kelly, if they want. Or go with the kid in AA killing it. Not concerned about catcher, TBH. I would guess they will spend some money on a corner or DH. Then fill in the rest. If they spend big on a starting pitcher then they won’t have the money to spend big on a bat. But they can get someone.

    Just happy they took one, TBH. I would rather lose and not use many pen arms then lose a close game depleting the pen. I don’t see a win here.

    All the complaining about what the Bulls did with second round picks go back to them having those picks anyway, and how dumb it was to just get second round picks. But that isn’t on this FO. I would say what they did by trading out of those spots suggest they agree with most of us that bacjnf them in the first place was stupid. If anything, trading them away gives me hope that this FO actually has a clue.

    This would hurt, but I would be fine with it. I get your point, not exactly these guys, but similar guys and I do it. Helps now and next year.

    I would agree. Brown isn’t going anywhere. They need to add a controlled pitcher this deadline, but not at the expense of one they already have. A rotation starting with Brown, Detmers or Soriano, Cabrera, and hopefully a healthy Steele is a good start next year. Aim high in free agency, (Peralta) and you have a solid staff. Offer Boyd a QO, if he stays healthy, and maybe he stays too. And maybe Wiggins comes around next year.

    Didn’t look like Hoerner gave Seiya any guidance. The fact that Seiya even slowed down suggests he thought there wasn’t even a play on him. I know one thing for sure, if Hoerner did signal him he wasn’t doing so with any urgency. I would have expected to see him behind home plate frantically signaling Seiya to slide. And that definitely did not happen.

    Honestly, for a controlled pitcher of several years, I am not too concerned about losing prospects. Sometimes you have to do what it takes. Shaw would hurt this year, but from what we have seen from Ramirez, he might fill in just as well. Conforto could play the outfield if they need that from time to time. Or they can bring up Alcantara.

    It won’t be because the Cubs have a greater urgency. But in reality 5 years of Shaw is very valuable.

    Would taking Kikuchi lower the cost? He makes over $22M a year. If the Cubs take his entire contract would that help? I feel Shaw AND Ballesteros is an overpay, but really IDK.🤷

    Is Wicks being brought up? I see Rolison starting. I would guess him for 1 or 2 and then Wilson. Maybe he goes 3 or 4. After that but depends on what the game is looking like. Give Ferguson multiple innings and have him take his lumps and send him down. If they can win the game they have to use whoever their best pen arms are. Who are those again????!

    All good. I would have liked to see him finish that inning. But I figured he was only good for 70-80 pitches.

    Peterson has not been a starter all season. He wasn’t in the Mets rotation at the time of the trade.

    He has been in the pen lately. Maybe he isn’t stretched out as much as he would like. This is one of those cases where I believe the manager knows better than we do. Regardless of how it plays out, maybe Peterson was done at 70.

    Did you read the question you answered? Because if you did you would realize this response doesn’t answer the question asked. Or did you mean to add to my response when I said there record would probably be closer to 50-32?

    Admittedly I knew they didn’t have enough for those two. That was pie in the sky, wishful thinking. The other two options they can do. One older pitcher and one younger guy.
