  1. The goal is to be under the LT line. They can’t get two. They can’t even do Bellinger/pen arm or Montgomery/Belt. They have one more signing at around $25M annual and that is all TR will allow.
  2. Agreed. This isn’t happening. I am not so sure they get either. But if they do, I think it would be Bellinger.
  3. It has gotten crazy out here. But I am fortunate enough to be able to go to some games and I enjoy the sunshine and seeing baseball live so I go to anywhere from 4 to 10 spring games a year. Basically depends on if I get out of town visitors who want to go to the game. Without any info to 4. Then add from there. Years ago I would just go to random games since it was inexpensive. Now strictly Cubs games. And mainly at Sloan. I just love the game so that is what I do.
  4. Spring tickets cost pretty close to the same price I pay for my Gold Tickets in my season ticket package. So higher than 2 pricing tiers of regular season games.
  5. That was the year Arrieta signed with the Phillies. That didn’t work out too well for them Phillies.
  6. The issue is if you want him to throw 100 innings do you build that into the regular season or do you account for post season. So do you only pitch him 75 with the thought of another 25 in the post season? But what if there is no post season. Then he only pitches 75 innings. However if you pitch him 100 and then make the playoffs is he not on the playoff roster? I know the Nationals shut down Strasburg one year. That didn’t really work too well, did it?
  7. Yesterday in the score they had a list of the top DH for the 24 season. Morel was ranked 3rd behind Alvarez and Ohtani and ahead of guys like Jimenez and Schwarber. Maybe this is just one publications opinion. I get that. And I do understand you and 1908 having reservations about it. But for me, I am going to stick to my belief that he is a solid bat and a top end DH. And if he could play 3rd even better. For my team, I want him in the line up daily. I am perfectly fine with yiu not agreeing with that.
  8. Why won’t Bellinger sign and play center? Why first base? Didn’t the trade die Busch put Busch at 1st?
  9. So I am not sure what you are suggesting, but I didn’t actually mean to compare Morel to Garcia. I was just pointing out Morel wasn’t that far from him. Someone in a previous discussion had mentioned he could dream Morel could turn into him. And again not that different. It also should be noted Garcia did this 4 years older than Morel. I just don’t understand why anyone would suggest regression in him. And I do understand his k and walk rate are not ideal. But he is 24. Why can’t that get better. I guess I don’t understand why you would want less AB from him. He needs 500+ AB IMO, regardless of if it is at 3rd, all over the field or strictly DH.
  10. I might be interested, depending on how tech savvy I would have to be. It that is not something needed, or not a hindrance if I am not, PM me and we can chat.
  11. I don’t think they get Belt anyway. I think that last bat is going to be a competition between Peralta, Smith, Mervis and Canario. One of these 4 will be the 13th bat in the team. Maybe none will be that bat all year, but between them I would guess the last spot would be filled.
  12. I agree he needs to get that k rate down some. Even 3% lower helps. I just don’t assume at 24 he will regress. Right now he is the second best bat in the team. I am sure some could argue other guys, but by OPS he is second. He doesn’t have to improve. Just stay as he is. But I don’t feel it is a reach to suggest he can improve some. He is young and still learning. I get it though. Sometimes guys never learn (Baez) and regress. I agree they could do a belt/Morel split at DH, assuming they got Belt. But to me the team’s offense is much better if Belt replaced Madrigal/Wisdom in the line up instead of Morel. That is why I like the idea of trying him there, and really hope it works out. Regardless of the outcome, I feel Morel needs 500AB a season. BTW, signing Chapman would be fine. Then Morel gets 500 AB at DH and no need for Belt. And one last point, whether we agree or disagree on this I am happy to be talking Cubs baseball. Not the other nonsense that has been discussed lately. It is a pleasure disagreeing with you.😀
  13. Yep, not exactly building a dynasty, or building a super team, but that is baseball now.
  14. I get what you are saying about Morel and understand why you feel he will regress. But I don’t agree. I think he will get better. He is only 24 and basically learned to hit in the majors. And really he doesn’t even have to get much better to be a solid offensive player. His numbers are not that far from A. Garcia from last year. And as good as Alonso. If he can handle 3rd it is a big win for the Cubs so they can add a bat only guy. But even if he can’t he is still very valuable as a guy to spot at positions from time to time but mainly a DH. Trying him at 3rd is well worth the effort.
  15. It does make a lot of sense really. Why waste innings in April, May and June if you know he is only going to pitch 100 innings, or whatever. Start him later, let him get the innings when it is most important.
  16. I agree. I think Jed gets a little longer leash because of the farm system. And he is doing it TR’s way. I know Dipoto took a lot of grief for suggesting a winning percentage of .540 over a 10 year span was his goal. But really I think that is exactly what the Cubs are trying to do. Be good enough to compete every year and some years actually win 90+. The more times you get in the playoffs the better your odds of actually winning the WS in one of those years.
  17. I doubt that happens. I think TR is very happy with the way Jed runs the team. But even if he did go, Hawkins would replace him. He seems to be the same guy. TR is not ever going to put a guy like Theo back in. Or, I should say a guy like Theo would never take this job again.
  18. Like I said, Nightengale is the one reporting it. So who knows. He does make sense for the Cubs, however. More so if Morel can play 3rd. If/when PCA does come up, Bellinger is no longer a centerfielder. But for me, anyway, there is still a lot of value in him being able to play both corners and first.
  19. So can we get back to baseball. I read the only team showing interest in Bellinger is the Cubs. (Nightingale- so take it for what it is worth). If that is the case I understand why the Cubs are holding at whatever they discussed, or waiting for Boras to come down. But this could still shape up to be a decent off season if they do get Bellinger and more importantly Morel can play 3rd. Bellinger helps if Busch struggles. Either PCA can come up or Tauchman can play center. DH is depending on who they decided was the best option that day. (This is where you might see some Smith or Peralta AB) But even better is if Busch plays well and PCA plays well enough to have to be put on the mlb roster. DH can mix between Bellinger, Busch, Happ and Suzuki while everyone stays in the line up. (This would be when Peralta and/or Smith -whichever makes the team- is released) When a rough lefty goes they can put Madrigal at 3rd, DH Morel and get AB for wisdom. Sit a few lefties. To me the key to this team in 24’ (assuming they get Bellinger) is Morel handling 3rd. And I know that is far from a sure thing. But if he does it gives them the chance to have a very solid line up.
  20. It has been more than a few years. Met him when we used to come down here for spring training. Valley Ho is a resort in old town Scottsdale. In March the pool area would get very busy. Thug had a sign that said celebrity bartender….. Pete Lacock. Honestly he was very excited I knew him. Everyone else at the pool was a bit younger than I was. So they had no use. I do believe he still has hair!
  21. I must admit, it doesn’t suck!
  22. He was a guest bartender at Valley Ho resort, in Scottsdale, years ago. I met him there.
  23. I am one of the stupid fans who will be at the game on Sunday. Yep, spent money to watch them play. Have some friends coming and and they want to go to a spring game. Guess they are idiots too!
  24. He also gets one less high draft pick a year than all the other teams in the division. He get penalized more for signing a free agent, doesn’t get as much international money and doesn’t get as much when the Cubs lose a free agent. Simple truth is in order for the Cubs to utilize the advantage they have as a high revenue team, they need to spend money(which is their advantage, in the fact they should be able to.
  25. Be sure to have someone there to save you because you will be splitting your nuts sometime in the next 4 months. I would be shocked if neither got a major league AB this season.
