  1. I think for Vlad the Cubs would lose one of their MLB top 100 prospects. Maybe a guy somewhere after Cassie, Shaw, PCA and Horton. Maybe a decent second piece as well. For Alonso, I think you are correct. As for Robert, I think the Sox will price themselves out of any serious offers.
  2. I completely agree. Don’t understand the references to the Cubs as not being good enough because for 5 weeks they have been playing not great baseball. Funny thing is that is probably the same people who were praising as a possible great team for playing great baseball the first 5 weeks of the season. Same guys. Same team. So which is it, are they great or do they suck? It is almost like people have never followed a baseball team thru an entire year. My guess is they are somewhere in the middle. Pretty good. And as you just said, pretty good gives them a chance at winning the NL.
  3. My only concern would be with so few teams selling and so many possibly buying, prices may be higher than expected. And paying premium pricing to maybe make the playoffs just doesn’t make sense. Now, teams like the Dodgers, Braves, Phillies who are pretty much playoff teams, it makes more sense for them to be more aggressive. Alonso might be worth a top 50 prospect (as an example) to a sure playoff team, but no so much to a team just hoping to get in.
  4. So back to baseball, I keep hearing about Alonso, Vlad and Robert. I was listening to the radio and Levine was on. He alluded to the Mets maybe wanting PCA back for Alonso. That would be a huge NO. So while guys want one of the big bats, you have to realize the cost. I think the only one I consider PCA being moved for would be Robert. I am not sure the cubs should give a top 8 prospect in their system for Alonso. Not for half a year. As for Vlad, maybe a bit more because of an extra year. But if Levine is right and Alonso cost PCA, I doubt the Cubs make any move on a big bat. Because Vlad would cost more and Robert even more.
  5. Agreed. And I am not even sure they need some sort of hit streak right now. Just start playing better baseball. Win some series. They are fine where they are right now. But they do need to start playing better ball. The good thing is, IMO, they have the players that can do it.
  6. Why aren’t they good enough to be buyers? So are only 4 teams in the NL buyers? Maybe they don’t make a bold move that a sure playoff team makes, but I don’t see why they would sell. They are 3 games better than last year at this time.. And last year after 93 games they were 7 games under .500. And they didn’t sell. If the question is “is now the time to trade Bellinger” the answer is absolutely not. Maybe if they are 6-8 under 500 near the deadline they do that. But not at this time.
  7. Better question is why? Why would they trade him? I don’t think this team will be in a dump mode at the deadline. So why trade someone who plays everyday? And then when yiu add his value wouldn’t bring much back, all the more….. why trade him?
  8. How awful do you think Hendricks will be at some point in his life? I mean if that is what you are using as a guide to whose jersey you would want from the 16’ team, wouldn’t he be the least likely to become an awful person?
  9. I agree. He would be a good get. As you said he is only 25. But the issue is, could the Cubs keep him for some of those prime years between 27-31? And what does that contract look like?
  10. And they need a miracle to turn it around! So it would be a miracle if the Cubs played better. It is almost like guys didn’t watch the team last year. Or even ever follow any team any season.
  11. Wish the GM listed to the forum. I would make that deal immediately. Either guy as the second part.
  12. Nicely done. Agree 100%. They need to use some prospects to bring in mlb talent.
  13. Yep. I would be very interested in him. The continual complaint here is the Cubs have decent players but no real stars. He would be that star. Sure, injuries are a concern. But honestly, if he didn’t have that issue the cost to get him would be outrageous. It will still be very high, but he would be the star. And they have him for several years at a reasonable cost. Yep, I would be all in on this.
  14. He is exactly someone you go after. For him I would be willing to give up a solid package of prospects.
  15. So? What is your point. Alonso in the line up everyday means everyday they have a bad fielding first baseman and along with Busch someone else sits. Honestly, he doesn’t move the needle enough for the Cubs to trade what the Mets might want for him. I would take him if they could get him for Canario or less. But otherwise I am fine with the Cubs juggling the 6 guys they are juggling for 5 spots. I think you mentioned Alcantara the other day. No way. Not saying Alcantara can’t be traded. I am fine moving him. But not for 4 months of a 1 dimensional player. Not when they really don’t need him. They need a catcher who can hit. Or maybe a 3rd baseman who can field and hit. They don’t need another 1B/DH.
  16. Either will struggle with Greene. But with PCA you get better defense and if he does get on you get a base stealing threat. But with 2 lefties following I don’t like the idea of Busch sitting 3 days in a row.
  17. Agreed. And I do think you will see this offense be better than they have shown so far. If you look at the starters right now, IMO, most, if not all, will have better ops+ at years end than they do now. Maybe Tauchmam and Busch won’t. But I think all the rest will. So I do expect better baseball the last 100 games.
  18. Will it be him or Wisdom? Also if he does on the IL does Mastrobuoni come back? Why not Murray? Has to be better than Mastrobuoni.
  19. Another pen day of 4 innings and 1 run. Pretty sure that is 4 good one days in a row. Maybe 16 innings and 2 runs. Of course as soon as they give up a few people will be bitching about them again. But for now, not bad.
  20. Definitely no on Alcantara. For that matter no on Triantos too. He is a borderline top 100 prospect for a one dimensional rental. No thank you. I do understand it makes sense to trade prospects for proven talent. But not a rental.
  21. The more I think about Alonso the more I really wonder what the Mets get for him. If they don’t trade him and then he leaves via FA, the Mets get a 4th round supplemental pick. 4th round. So in theory any offer better than that is something they should consider. Cubs got PCA for Baez and Trevor Williams. But PCA was coming off of arm surgery and hasn’t played in a year. And if the Cubs didn’t trade him they would have gotten a second round supplemental pick. PCA wasn’t the prospect he is today at that time. Granted, it was also an overpay. So that said, what does Pete cost. No way Cassie or Ballesteros. If that is their ask then you look elsewhere. If it is Canario, sure, you consider it. Maybe even add a lower leveL guy. It would make for some mixing and matching of other players, but in doing that it would strengthen the bench. As long as he doesn’t cost a lot, I would be ok with him. But, IMO, the Mets will find a team willing to part with more than the Cubs would part with.
  22. You asked how it looks now. And now, it looks like the right move not to have made that trade. Doesn’t matter what fans thought the Cubs would do or what they would spend. Obviously anyone who thought they would blow past the LT line was wrong. As for Imanaga, you are right, the Cubs haven’t committed to the 4 years yet. But they can. It is their option. So regardless of what fans thought the FO would do, it is pretty apparent that wasn’t their plan, unless against all odds, they got Ohtani. For him they would have stretched. Also, with him, Glasnow made more sense. Glasgow this year, he leaves and Ohtani takes his spot in the rotation. Once that failed they went back to spending under the LT. Which bring us right back to they are better off without that deal they they would have been with it.
