  1. How many teams have a guy on their bench, or even in the minors, that can step in for a month, and be very good? How many are better than Tauchman, Cooper and even Wisdom? As for Gomes, you are judging him on a slow start. These guys are bench guys for a reason. Same reason guys on other teams are bench guys. There really isn’t much depth around the league that can fill in for a month at a time.
  2. I am not sure it is that easy to just IL a guy. Didn’t MLB come down on a team for doing that? I think they are watching that a little closer than in the last. So for me, if he sucks again they may need to think about releasing him. Hate to think about that, because I really like Kyle and he was a big part of the championship team. But like thawv said, this is 2024. Have to do what is needed to win now.
  3. That said, still the most likely outcome for one team is to split the doubleheader. Even using your numbers, 49% of the time they split. That leaves 51% to either win both or lose both. So maybe a good team wins 35% of that remaining percentage? And then worse team wins 16% of the time. So basically the better team wins a double header 35% of the time as opposed to splitting 49% of the time.
  4. I don’t disagree with any of this. All I was trying to say is if Counsell did want to pinch hit it didn’t have to be a lefty. Gomes was available.
  5. Why did it have to be Bellinger pinch hitting anyway. If you wanted a right handed bat who was very successful in big moments last year, why couldn’t Gomes pinch hit? At least he would be just trying to put the ball in play.
  6. I like the idea of trying to get through one of the games today with only 2 pitchers. Between the starter and the one arm(probably Brown) you get 9 innings. Then you have the other game to use whatever you need.
  7. Except that it is baseball and even bad teams win 40% of the time. And if is very difficult to win a double header. And Luzardo is pitching today(I expect him to start pitching better). Sunday the Cubs have Hendricks pitching. Happ may be out now. I would guess the percentage of 4 game sweeps is very low in baseball. Sure, they “should” win against the Marlins, but it shouldn’t be expected that they win every game. Hell, the white Sox beat the Braves earlier this year. All I am saying is to expect a sweep and be disappointed if they don’t get one is setting yourself up to be disappointed.
  8. Bet the homer he gave up would have only been a homer at Wrigley. Hit is right over the 368 sign. Shortest power alleys in baseball.
  9. I would guess he is around 80 pitches for his limit. Maybe low 80’s. So possible he does 6.
  10. All 3 won’t last? Who do you expect the bench to be? And what time frame is near future? Your comment is very vague.
  11. Which brings us full circle back to “too bad PCA is sucking right now”.This would have been his spot. Or maybe Peralta, if he is healthy and can play the outfield. He would make se se instead of Canario. At least if it was him Canario would be playing everyday in the minors. Look, I know what you are saying is right. I just wish they had a better option.
  12. Then maybe instead of Canario they should bring Mervis up. Tauchman can start and Mervis can be on the bench. When a lefty starts both Wisdom and Cooper can start. Wisdom can play left. I would just like an option for a lefty bat in the bench. Does it really matter if the last guy is Mervis or Canario?
  13. I get it. But I would still rather see Canario and let Tauchman be the lefty bat off the bench. They have none when he plays. Too bad PCA has sucked. This would have been a perfect time for him instead of Canario.
  14. Works for me. Wesneski’s reward for pitching 4 innings is being sent down. Even if he never does leave Chicago and gets called up again for Saturday he still loses a few days of major league pay, right?
  15. I hope this means Canario gets most starts in the outfield with Tauchman mainly on the bench as a left handed pinch hitter. DH is either Cooper, Wisdom or Morel(when Madrigal plays 3rd). Give Canario at least a week of starts and see what he can do.
  16. Actually waiting until Saturday to activate Taillon might be a good move. As you said he can be the 27th man that day. Might save Wesneski if they do that. Maybe Brewer goes back down instead of Wesneski or Brown, on Sunday..
  17. I believe before the game starts the home team makes the decision on if they play or not. Once the game starts it is up to the umpires and mlb. Maybe Rogers knows the Cubs don’t plan on getting this one in.
  18. Miami is in Atlanta on Monday. If they play a double header, which they will if they don’t play today, it will be either Friday or a day night DH on Saturday.
  19. Don’t they play a night game? Isn’t that when weather will be bad?
  20. Honestly, that is what I would like to see. Hate to send Hayden back after how good he was. But he is down for 4 days now. I doubt they send Brewer back ahead of him. At least Brewer is an available arm. And hate to see Brown go down. Hendricks injured would be the move I would like best. But not sure that happens.
  21. Who do the Cubs send down to activate Taillon? Wesneski? He is not available for several days, so do they send him down? If not him, who?
  22. He was throwing a lot more strikes, as you pointed out. At one point I looked up at the scoreboard and they had him with 25 strikes to 5 balls. That was through 2 innings. He did well yesterday. Kind of a quick hook, but with Wesneski ready and rested and a bunch of right handed bats coming up, I understand the move. Maybe, has Nico taken the sure out at 1st on the grounder the last batter Wicks faced, instead of rushing and making an error, Wicks could have finished the 5th. But it all worked out fine.
  23. It is actually kind of amazing the Cubs are 11-7 with a rough early schedule when you consider they have several injuries to the pitching staff, starting pitchers not averaging 5 innings a start a very shaky bullpen, most of the offense slumping, and fielding poorly. On top of that they now are without Suzuki for a month, at least. All of the above and they are in a 99 win pace!
