  1. Glad you are not the manager. That line up sucks. (No disrespect)
  2. He has been very bad. But why is he being singled out? The entire team (except for Tauchman) isn’t hitting. Should they all never play baseball again? He has had 20 AB so far. While I am concerned about him and if he will ever hit, we are talking about 20 AB.
  3. The weak swing on the 2-2 pitch to Happ was, IMO, a result of the bad call on the 2-1 pitch. Had that been called correctly, as a ball, I think Happ walks on the next pitch.
  4. My take on Hendricks is they will give him a chance to be back in the rotation. But I don’t expect they will give him many chances if he is still pitching poorly. Maybe 3 starts max. And honestly, I would say 2. If he is still bad they have to release him. There will be probably 110-120 games left so the 4th and 5th spot in the rotation would have to be filled by a combination of Wicks, Assad, Wesneski, Brown, maybe Smyly for a game or two and maybe Horton later in the year. I would think at that point they probably can limit innings on all of those guys. They can even go to a 6 man staff to limit innings. As much as I am a fan of Hendricks, if he is hurting the team and there is nothing else they can do with him, they may have to release him. Hopefully he isn’t bad and that makes things much easier moving forward.
  5. For me, ideally I would like to see Steele, Imanaga, Tallion, Wicks and Hendricks in the rotation. Then spot Assad in when they have a lot of games in a row. This way starters get 5 days rest. Use Brown, Smyly, Wesneski and Keegan in the pen. They can piggyback every so often, too as you suggested. If Hendricks still sucks when he comes back, they may juggle that 4th and 5th spot between Assad, Wicks, Brown and Wesneski so that none of them throw too many innings. And they may use Smyly and Thompson in piggyback roles as well, to limit innings.
  6. Besides this, they do need innings from him. Hard to depend on Wicks, Assad, Brown, Wesneski and maybe even Horton to eat up innings when all will be watched closely to make sure they don’t throw too many innings. Besides that, Imanaga is used to more rest between starts. They need Hendricks to be better.
  7. Absolutely. Honestly even with everyone healthy there is nothing wrong with a split on the road against a decent team. And the Mets are a decent team.
  8. They need innings. All the younger guys aren’t going to go more than 150 innings, max. Hendricks will be given another shot, especially if Wicks is out for any real time. Imanaga is used to pitching every 6th day. They will use a lot of 6 man rotation during the year to save innings on the young guys and Imanaga. He does have to be better, but he is going to be given the chance.
  9. So does the umpire. Missed two strike to Wong. Should have struck out.
  10. So guys aren’t hitting .373 against him? He doesn’t have an era over 5? Those numbers don’t matter in 2024? I do understand your reason for optimism. And I hope you are right. I just wouldn’t call what he has done in AAA pitching extremely well.
  11. If the Cubs win they move into sole possession of first place.
  12. According to BN, he has given up 8 runs in 12 innings. Opponents hitting .373 off of him. I know his k and w rate are outstanding and he has pitched in some bad luck. But his era is almost 6. Hard to call that extremely well.
  13. Palencia and Lovelady up, Wicks IL and Little down.
  14. Not sure where this goes, but according to BN Steele might only have 1 rehab start and come back around 5/6 or 5/7. May 6th makes sense if the Cubs want to give Imanaga the rest he usually got in Japan. He would go 5/1 on 4 days rest, this time, but then if Steele came back he would take that game and Imanaga moves to 5/7.
  15. I think if he throws 65-75 pitches in his 2nd rehab start he will be back after that start regardless of who he matches up against.
  16. But name that one arm BEFORE the season starts. Pretty sure most people were all over Stephenson. And most were happy they spent on Neris. Not to mention those who wanted Hader, while some other pen arms went cheaper. It is so easy to criticize what they didn’t do with hindsight. Easy to point out a few guys having good years and say they should have taken them. It is just a roll of the dice if a pen arm is good or not the year you sign him.
  17. Tha would be my guess. 2 rehab starts and then he is back. So around May 10th. Wish we heard something about Suzuki. I imagine he is still AT LEAST 3 weeks away from rehab AB.
  18. I do not like the spend on relievers idea. To me a pen arm is a roll of the dice. Look at the guys people were criticizing the Cubs for not getting this year. Hader has an era over 8. Stephenson is done for the year. They took Neris for $9M and he isn’t very good. I think you build a pen from within. When you pay high prices for the pen you are paying on precious success but IMO, more than any other position in baseball, the pen arm is the most volatile in baseball. Prior success is not a guarantee of future success.
  19. I was very strange. Almost looked like he went out there and told the umpire to eject him. Like some sort of thing to fire up the team. He definitely did not appear to be arguing anything. And if he was arguing, what could it have been?
  20. Cubs pitching is coming around. 7 of last 8 the starters have given up 2 or less. Not going deep enough, but they are keeping runs off the board.
  21. Didn’t Leiter go 2 days in a row. He probably wasn’t available.
