  1. Looking back at your original post regarding the rotation order I see you are just answering someone who suggested the rotation might be shuffled. I misunderstood your post and thought you were posting it as some sort of proof that Brown was getting the spot. Reading it again, I see I errored. I actually think we are saying the same thing. It appears they brought up Brown to start, but that could chance depending on usage. And there is no reason to announce their plans since it could be very fluid anyway.
  2. I like it. I want to see Busch against lefties. And Gomes hits lefties well. I suspect we will see Amaya tomorrow.
  3. Also catch a ball right to you even if it is hit hard. When hitting a ball down the line for extra bases try keeping it in play instead of having it bounce over the wall and (most important) keep balls hit over 400 ft in fair territory.
  4. We aren’t because Ricketts won’t allow it. Period! Continuing to harp on it isn’t going to change it. I can agree with you that he has the money and he should do what’s necessary. I completely understand your point. I have even made the same point. But it isn’t going to change anything. They are not going to that level.
  5. TBH, I kind of expected Palencia either way. He comes up to give them an extra pen arm until they need a starter to take Steele’s spot. Then send Cuaz down and bring up Brown to take the start. But I do understand your thought. And most likely it is correct. I just don’t see the comment about the rotation staying the same as any indication of what they will do when Steele’s spot comes up. I do think Brown will take the start. But to me nothing has been cleared up by anything the Cubs said.
  6. So what does that mean? I don’t see that statement to confirm Brown takes Steele’s spot. I hope that is what it means, but really it is a nothing statement. So Hendricks, Wicks, Imanaga and Assad go the next 4. No shuffling of them. Which brings the Cubs to Steele’s spot. Whether it is Smyly or Brown there wouldn’t be any rotation shuffling.
  7. Ok, so 91-92 first time out could be 94 in a few weeks. That said, I still see him as man #40 in the roster. No issues if they have to let him go.
  8. Montgomery would have taken them over the second tax line. They were not doing that. I get your disappointment, but they were not going to be a team with a $260+ payroll. And it is hard to blame ownership for that decision. I think Chapman would have put them very close to the second line as well. So again, not sure they would do that, nor am I sure I blame them for not doing it. My issue is more about not giving the Guardians what was needed for Bieber. He would have fit in and been comfortable over line one but a decent amount of money under line 2. They have the prospects that could have made that happen. Of course, we don’t know what the Guardians were looking for. I would have liked another bat like JDM, Turner, Belt, Soler. All guys in the $12M to $15M range. But with them obviously not sold on Morel for 3rd that is a hard move to make. So we have what we have.
  9. True. I actually thought Palencia would be called up and then then the rotation spot was up to pitch they would send down Cuas and bring Brown up for the spot. I hope this means he will get the next start, but I am not entirely sure it does. It might be Smyly.
  10. What was he throwing when he was “good”? I don’t remember him to be a high velo guy. 94-95 maybe? First game of the year I imagine he could do better than that. But, personally, even at 94 I feel he is cooked anyway. He would be who I took off the 40 man next time they have to take someone off. And I wouldn’t give it a second thought after doing it.
  11. TBH, I just don’t care too much about what the play by play are droning on and on about. I watch the game and tune them out, mostly. But I agree that it is strictly for the gambling crowd to try to get them interested.
  12. This is something I just don’t understand. How do so many viewers watch baseball? I have seem others post about the win probability on the screen and I don’t get it. Who cares? I watched the entire game and hardly even noticed it. Small print at the top of the tv. Barely a notice unless I wanted to talk about how it changed based on an out of a hit. But I probably went innings without even noticing it. IMO it is there is you want to see it and discuss it. But if not just watch the game. Certainly not something to get all worked up about.
  13. And, as was pointed out the team was not average offensively. They were third in the NL in runs. In what world is 3rd of 15 teams average?
  14. Agreed. But I cut Busch some slack because each time he repeated a level it was coming off a promotion the previous year, during the year. So he didn’t play 2 full years at a level. Plus, even if Busch was ready last year who was he replacing? I do believe he will hit just fine this year and be in the consideration for ROY.
  15. Agreed. I am not worried about him based on that Cardinals start.
  16. Actually the question was if Morel couldn’t handle 3rd would the Cubs consider moving Happ to 3rd and Morel to left. And would that help the ins because of Happ’s “supposed” noodle arm. That is far from an “all hell breaks lose” scenerio. And the answer still is there is no way Happ plays 3rd with Morel moving to left.
  17. Happ isn’t going to play 3rd. He is the left fielder. I don’t understand why his arm strength is coming into the discussion. If he is in the 53 percentile isn’t that basically an average arm? If the worst thing he does is league average why are we looking to change his position.
  18. And Happ is more like a 3-4 WAR. I can see if he had a 2.0 WAR last year. But he didn’t. It was a solid 3. He isn’t that power hitter some thought he would be. But he is a high OBP guy with enough pop in the bat. He also made himself into a solid left fielder.
  19. And yet, Happ seems to be a guy a lot of fans want to replace. His WAR his last 2 years was a total of 7.4. Average of 3.7. That is a star.
  20. Not if Busch is playing well. Sure, Bellinger would play the corner if Busch handled first and PCA forced his was to center.
  21. I think he has toned down the Harry impersonation and is decent as a color guy now. But at first he did do that a bit. And it was annoying. As you said, he isn’t doing that any longer and he is now second to JD as my preferred color man.
  22. I think you will be very disappointed if you really feel this way. I honestly don’t know what you expect from a back up utility infielder. Maybe one will not be on the team. I doubt both will be done.
  23. I think Mastrobouni is at least as good as Madrigal (probably better)at the plate and can steal bases. I also think the idea of Madrigal being this star fielder is a bit overblown. He was fine. But as we know from one year to another those metrics can change easily. Add to it that Mastrobuoni hits left handed and can play SS and even the outfield, and that is why I like him a little more than Madrigal. Honestly, to me it is splitting hairs between the two of them. Bottom line is, most likely both will make the team. My guess is both Cooper and Peralta are released when all are healthy. . If only one of them made the team, to me, it would be the guy who hits from the opposite side of the plate that the 26th player hits from. So if Peralta is 26, keep Madrigal. If Cooper is 26th, keep Mastrobouni up. That is how little difference I see in them.
  24. I really do not view the bench as bad as I think you view it. It is guys that don’t start. So they aren’t going to be great. But I think the bench is fine. And someone will DH. So if they play 6 games and have to have a DH in each game, someone is always going to get more than 1 start a week. But I do agree we might see guys going up and down this season. But I don’t consider that a bad thing either. I think they have some depth in the minors who can step up if they want to mix the bench up a bit.
