  1. Maybe a pen arm? MAYBE Jimenez? But not much there. Hard to get anything for Eloy, because he is always hurt. How about B. Davis for Eloy? Would the Cubs do that? Does Eloy(if healthy) help the offense? Our often injured prospect for their often injured major league player.
  2. Yes, they can start playing well anytime now. That would be nice.
  3. They just have to play to what is expected of them offensively. Yes, the pen needs to get sorted out. I agree with that. But I do think people have overreacted to the teams offensive struggles. And I know right now they have been very bad. But, IMO they will be fine. Catcher is a concern, but other than that, they are solid all around the field.
  4. When Wicks comes back Brown might end up in the pen as well. So that helps too.
  5. You keep referencing 10 games out of the division. They are not that far out now. And they are tied for the WC spot. You add to this team if you can get in the playoffs. So if they are playing 500 ball and in the race for WC, IMO they should add. And, honestly, if they are playing 500 ball I don’t expect them to be more than 5 or 6 games back if the Brewers either. Even though that really doesn’t matter. They just need to get in. I am not suggesting a top prospect for a rental. But they can use some of their excess minor league talent to bring in people who can help this year. They have plenty.
  6. What are you talking about? There isn’t a play in game. Winning the division with the 3rd best record is no different than making the WC. You still have to play an extra series.
  7. This is an interesting take after 50 games this year. Especially when Suzuki missed 20 games and Happ is historically a streaky hitter. I believe the Cubs corners were top 5 in baseball last year. At the very worse, top 10. But now, suddenly they are a mess? I strongly disagree. They may not be top 5, but they might be. And again, they are far from a mess.
  8. Oh, boo hoo😬. You think that is old? I just got a text today from a grade school buddy of mine talking about our 50th year reunion for our graduating class. 😥 Now, that is old. Am I right biitner and thawv? Anyone else? I consider you young. I appreciate you and guys of your age talking here. It makes me view baseball differently than most of the guys I talk baseball with. Which then sometimes frustrates me when they make statements, based on old counting numbers, on if a guy is good or not. But that is ok. I can listen to them and try to educate them, but usually it falls on deaf errors (literally….. we are old so hearing goes).
  9. Personally I like the idea of Scott better than Hader. He will cost less. And Scott, now, works for me too. I doubt the Astros are trading Hader anyway. Caratini would be fine, however. And, again, the sooner the better.
  10. We are in the same page here. I agree they wait. I also believe they will play better. The pen will need tinkering, but that will happen as guys get healthy. Wicks, Palencia, and K. Thompson all soon. So maybe there is a shake up in the pen. I just don’t see this as gloom and doom as many game day posters do. After playing terrible baseball and underachieving greatly for a month now, the Cubs are 1/2 game out of a playoff spot. People realistically looking at the Cubs at the start of the season had them at mid 80’s to maybe high 80’s in wins. I think the team they have still should have that expectation. So, as you said, wait. And also, step away from the edge. I do have a concern at catcher. And, TBH, it is more defensively than offensively. I think Amaya will hit a little. I think he can hit .230-.240. And that would be fine. But they can’t throw anyone out. That, along with blocking balls and pitch framing concerns me more than the offense. Maybe, that needs to be addressed, closer to the deadline.
  11. I agree. And I would add, IMO, the sky is not falling. It is not unreasonable to think this very team can start winning again. Guys that have been playing poorly can get back in track to their usual numbers and at the end of this month the Cubs can very easily be a team over .500 and very much be in the race. IMO all this team needs is to play to the level expected of the guys they have. Yes, they can use a catcher. And also a closer. But you are not getting either now. Just start playing better ball, as they are very capable of, and then as it gets closer to the ASB see about add ons. I suppose an innings eating SP wouldn’t hurt either. I like the young guys they have but they do need to limit some innings. So maybe someone who can pitch in the rotation for a bit. They would also help the pen because a young guy who is starting would move to the pen. So as you said, for now, nothing should be done. Just turn it around with what they have then add a catcher, closer and another starting pitcher at the deadline. If they also add a bat, that is fine, but IMO that would only be a bench guy.
  12. Isn’t he 31 or 32 years old? Not exactly someone to get excited about.
  13. Hope so. After a slump he has done pretty well.
  14. Aren’t Wrigley power alleys the shortest in baseball? Maybe I am wrong but I always thought that. The lines are furthest, but the alleys are easiest to reach.
  15. Morel crushes one into a double play and then the reds get a dribbler between the pitcher and first baseman for a base bit. Man I hate this game.

    PCA

And they have no one who can hit who should play 3rd.
  17. I like it. Bote, at least, has some pop in his bat. Better bench guy than Madrigal. I would rather see him in the line up against a left handed pitcher than Madrigal. Not a move that moves the needle much, but I do like the decision. Next, when Wicks comes back, IMO that should be it for Kyle. Have to start making tough decisions and put the best team they can in the field.
  18. I would be fine with him up and Madrigal down. At least he has a little pop in his bat. I imagine one of the pen arms will be put in the 60 day IL. Hope this is for Madrigal and nothing happened to Wisdom, Morel of Busch to make this move.
  19. I think if you take out the one bad inning the first time he pitched in relief opening series, his relief numbers are very good too. Hard to get numbers leveled when you have one terrible inning in relief and only pitch 15-20 relief innings total.
  20. IMO Alonso isn’t worth what the Mets would want. Now if they are willing to take someone near middle to back of the Cubs top 30 prospects maybe. But I doubt they take that. And most likely someone will give them something f better. Not even comparing him to Busch, because I agree we don’t know about Busch, I don’t really want him. Right now we are playing PCA everyday which moves Bellinger. Happ and Suzuki each are playing, as is Tauchman. Even if I concede and say Alonso would be a good bat in the line up, the question is for who? And does he make that much of a difference. My answer would be no. Cubs need a catcher who can hit. All other positions are filled IMO. and as I said, Alonso turned down 7/$158 from the Mets in the off season. I wouldn’t want him for more than 3 or 4 years. So I don’t see extending him.
  21. He turned down a great offer from the Mets already. The only thing worse than trading for him would be signing him to a long term deal. He will not age well.
  22. Less than 2 outs should not happen except for the contact play. If it is called and hit to an infielder there is nothing the coach or the runner can do about it. The 9th inning send is absolutely inexcusable. as for the one with Swanson, as I said, that could go either way. If India goes to first everyone is saying what a great play Swanson made and what a great send from Harris.
