    I am good with keeping both. As you said, there are enough AB for everyone. But if one was traded I would hope it is Shaw and for a young starting pitcher with his potential. One that could go into the rotation in ‘27. But then they would need to get a good utility bat to replace him this year. That is where I am unsure how it plays out. I like having Shaw as utility. Maybe sign Castro? I do like the idea of a cheaper rotation in ‘27 if that pitcher for Shaw is in the rotation along with Wiggins, Horton, Cabrera and Steele. You would 5 starters @ maybe $25M in payroll. That would give them a lot of money to add talent. If they could make a trade this year that doesn’t hurt the ‘26 teams chances and solves one spot for the ‘27 team, that would be what I am looking for. Since that is near impossible to do, just keep them both.

    Not crazy about the messenger but I am fine with the message. Hope it is true. Trade Shaw for a young pitcher who can be in the rotation in ‘27. Just pick up a utility guy for the bench(Castro). Maybe even extend Nico. If Wiggins, Horton, Cabrera and whoever they get for Shaw are in the rotation next year, with Steele, you might have a 5 man rotation for under $25M. You can afford Nico as well as another FA bat and probably a pitcher.

    That is probably true. Basically no matter who you are you are subject to a lot of expectations ans criticism in NY.

    Yep. if Nico is traded it will be a trade neither fan base likes.

    Mets have Soto. How does Tucker have to be “the guy” with the Mets?

    I’m with you. I don’t want to trade him either. However, if the Mariners get involved they have a lot of interesting prospects.

    Cassie isn’t a veteran beloved Cub. He was traded to a place he can play every day in the majors. He should be very happy.

    Just want to be blown away and also help this years team. Funny, it always seems like a great idea to trade a guy in his last year if you get a great deal. But then when it is actually offered it gets hard to do. Not that Tolle was actually offered.

    One for one? Wonder if there is a way to add Duran or Abreu in the deal. Give up Alcantara or even Mo. Get a proven bat who plays right. I am still skeptical of any Nico trade, but if they did get a potential stud pitcher that is hard to pass on.

    I don’t think Nico will be traded. But, if he is, I don’t see SF as the team to get him. The only way he ends up in SF is if they are involved in some kind of 3 team deal. Giants do not have anyone the Cubs would want, IMO, for Nico.

    I’m not disputing they never made a serious attempt at signing him. I just don’t agree that they made the trade with only having him one year, as the plan. I think, for whatever reason, their opinion of him changed as the season went on. So no long term offer.

    I don’t see anything happening with Nico. But if it did it wouldn’t be until after the convention. I find it hard to believe they would make a trade that will automatically be disliked right before the convention.

    I agree you should look at all the data. But because he does have solid swing and miss stuff and his k rate did increase as the year went on, I think he is being sold a little short. Besides that, before this year Logan Webb had a few low K rate years that were very good. And his k per 9 were 7.6 as opposed to Horton’s 7.4 last year. I agree Horton can’t sustain the success he had without getting a few more K’s, but guys can have good years at that level. And I think his level will improve.

    Regarding Horton, his K rate did get better as the season went on. He struck out 47 batters in his last 49 innings starting in August. He has sold swing and miss rates too. So I would expect that K rate to increase. Now, back Tucker. I don’t think the Cubs question his baseball skills. I think their issue is his make up, for whatever reason.

    Honestly, I have no idea what happened last year. I just don’t believe they NEVER intended on discussing a long term contract with him when they traded for him. It just turned into a bad marriage, for whatever reason reason. And the Cubs just decided he wasn’t the guy for them. What sense does that trade make if they knew it was for one year only? Jed didn’t have to save his job. He was never in danger of losing it. Cubs didn’t exactly go all in after the trade, as if they were laying it all on the line for one year. Why trade a decent 3rd baseman and a higher end prospect for one year of Tucker and not go all in? Contrary to what some want to believe, Jed and the FO are not idiots. I think it is far more likely that, for whatever reason, the FO changed their opinion on Tucker. And because of that they decided he wasn’t the guy going forward.

    I think the idea they only traded for him for one year and never had any intent of signing him after the year is ridiculous. You may have thought it and said it the entire time, but that doesn’t make it true or any less ridiculous. I think them signing Bregman is proof that they did have the money where they could have kept Tucker. There is one thing being quiet and another being aloof. I also don’t think they liked how he responded to rehab. When he was traded for I do believe the FO hoped he would love Wrigley and the fans would love him. Maybe get a small discount and he retire a Cub. Obviously that didn’t happen. But, I think his actions off the field as a ballplayer caused them to change their mind on him. I just don’t think the Tucker experience went how the Cubs hoped it would. And, if you think about all those great hitters who came through Houston, he was the only one they didn’t even bother to try extending. They lost Correa, Bregman, Springer to free agency. Each they tried to keep. They kept Altuve and so far Alvarez. They traded Tucker.

    Just my opinion, but I don’t think they liked his clubhouse presence. I don’t think he was the leader they expected him to be. That may not have been the original plan. But I think they soured in his as the year went on.

    Is there a way a 3 team trade beteeen the Cubs, Red Sox and Dbacks can work? I am thinking Cubs trade Hoerner and Shaw and end up with Marte and Mayer. Dbacks maybe get Shaw and Abreu. Boston gets Hoerner. Maybe something else has to be added somewhere. Honestly I live in Az. and it seems Marte isn’t a great clubhouse influence. It also appears that is important to the Cubs. So even if talent levels are even I am not sure if the Cubs would be interested. Does this type of deal overwhelm the Cubs enough to move Nico?

    I had to do the same thing a few weeks back with someone. I still have him ignored, but I am not sure he posts any longer. Pretty sure Banks will go away any day now. Might even be gone.

    Not going to happen. Pretty sure the Cubs have no interest in him.

    I’m not worried about Donovan. I not even too worried about the Cardinals getting too much for him. But maybe if they think the Giants will switch to Hoerner they lower their ask. It doesn’t hurt the Cubs to allow a story that they are talking to the Giants about Hoerner, be out there. I don’t think they trade him to the Giants, however.

    I still think this is more hype than reality. At least with the Giants. It just makes sense for the Cubs and Giants to let out info they are talking. Giants want Donovan but at a lower cost. Cubs would be happy to help them accomplish that in a trade with the Cardinals. As for other teams, maybe there is something there. But I would guess if there is, it will be after a Donovan trade to the giant shakes out. It just helps the Cubs if the Cardinals think the a giants might go elsewhere.
