How about Detmers, Zeferjohn and Adell? One stop shopping. What would that cost? -
And the wind was blowing in at 20 mph each game. Neither team hit. Cubs were one boneheaded non challenge away from tying the game yesterday. Or one bad Rea pitch from winning it. They can use a right handed bat to play left, or Shaw needs to get back soon. But the offense is fine, otherwise. It is a lower priority need, but it is a need.

So maybe Rojas plus some guys outside the top 30 gets Detmers. Maybe Rojas and Ayers gets Detmers and Adell or a pen arm. One stop shopping: Detmers, Adell and a pen arm. Figure out who has to go.

Besides what Jason is saying about Detmers this is already a better deadline than last year. They got a guy who will start a playoff game. At the very least they will add a few pen arms. Similar to Kittredge last year. I do believe Jason with his Detmers update, but even if that doesn’t happen the deadline won’t be a total bust.

Now that the Cubs have Gausman would that take them out on Holmes? Don’t really want a second rental. So whining play for the Cubs.

I think that once the west coast games are over we will hear about a Cubs trade. Maybe Detmers, maybe Soriano, maybe Webb or even Miller. But I think something will happen today. Of course I have probably said this sort of thing every year. What did they say the definition of insanity is?

He is a reliever with 3 or 4 years of control. He isn’t Chapman. And there is no clear opinion that he is the Cubs top guy.

I know that. But if you take the name out of it and just realize they did use a 6th rd pick for him when other teams could have done it too, it is still a 6th round pick. I’m not suggesting they should trade him. I am just saying they get a lot of value for that spot in the draft, if they do trade him for a starting pitcher who can be counted on in the playoffs and someone they can have a few years.

If he is traded I would guess it won’t be for a rental. Also, something to remember, he was a 6th round draft pick last year. If that turns into a playoff starting pitcher with control left, the Cubs FO should be applauded for getting that value in the 6th round of last years draft. I am not saying I want him traded. And it might not even happen. But if it does it won’t be for a rental and it will be a good return for a 6th round selection.

If that’s the cost for Peralta there is no excuse for Jed not to get at least someone like Mize, Gausman or Holmes as a rental. Hope they aim higher, but one of those guys should be obtainable.

I like Weaver better anyway. But he will cost more. He has another year and is better.

Ok, cool. I would be fine with Ayers and Kepley for either Soriano or Detmers. I just wonder what else could be given to get Adell in the deal. Love to have his right handed bat.

I agree. And just because he is playing doesn’t mean he isn’t traded. Guys have come out of games before. Hug watch is in high alert today.
