  1. This is a bit reactionary. He isn’t great in right, but he is going to play there.
  2. But he is someone who qualifies? Is he a good enough prospect to qualify? I thought he had to be top 50 or 100 in a few publications. But don’t know the publications and if he qualifies.
  3. I wouldn’t count the Mets as sellers just yet. They have a good team and can rebound from a terrible start. It will be hard and maybe they don’t rebound, but I wouldn’t say it is a good chance they sell.
  4. I’m not sure where to ask this and hope someone see it who can answer. If Mo get ROY do the Cubs get an extra draft pick next year? Does he qualify as a rookie prospect in enough publications? Also, does he have to be ROY or finish in top 3?
  5. So much good in this win. Seiya and Busch go deep. PCA and Bregman get 3 hits. Ben Beown looked great. Even Boyd wasn’t bad. How about the no name pen? Best win of the year to ease some fans concerns.
  6. Basically how I answered the question. If Murray isn’t a real prospect, why not him. Not sure he isn’t a prospect, however.
  7. My guess would be more likely it is serious.
  8. Kind of sucks that Webb couldn’t close it out. I know Theilbar only threw 6 pitches but he was up. 9th should have been easy. Can’t even really blame Webb.
  9. That is a strange mock. I don’t see that at all. There are a few edge rushers and an OT taken right after the Bears mock 60th pick. I would imagine any of those would make more sense than a receiver and another safety. TBH, I would like to see the Bears trade down on their first pick and gain more draft capital. There are guys listed into the high 30’s that, IMO, are the same guys the Bears are considering at 25. Trade down and they still might get an edge rusher or OT they are considering at 25. Then in rd 2 (pick 57 or 60)maybe that safety does make sense. With the extra pick they can probably get a WR or RB. 57 and 60 can be safely and either an edge or OT(depending on what they take with their eventual first pick.
  10. I said it before the 9th inning started, so this isn’t hindsight criticism. My thought was to bring Bregman in the game at 3rd in the 9th. Sure, you lose the DH, but who cares. They have a 4 run lead. Bregman helps protect that with better defense. Why keep Kingery at 3rd? I will bet if the same situation occurs, or if Swanson or Nico are the DH and for some reason Kingery is in the game (and Shaw has already been used) if they are protecting a 9th inning lead he will put the better fielder in the game in the 9th and forfeit the DH spot.
  11. Probably not this year. Let them play every day. All the Cubs need from that 26th spot is a guy who can play decent defense in the infield and better than average speed. If the Cubs do bring up Long it will be due to an injury and them letting him play. Maybe Murray has an outside shot,’if they don’t consider him someone for their future and don’t mind letting him ride the bench. For me, the last spot should be their best fielding infielder in the minors who can also run a bit.
  12. So is am not entirely sure if the rules, but couldn’t Craig have but Bregman into the game at 3rd and just lose the DH. If that’s the rule, CC screwed up. Who cares about the Dah when you have a 4 run lead.
  13. Busch clean up? Sure, that makes sense. He is doing so well.
  14. I doubt they send him down. He is typically a slow starter. Not this slow, but he doesn’t really turn it on until the weather gets warm. I think they will give him more time to start hitting. He isn’t streaky like Happ. But he doesn’t have down times, and then gets hot.
  15. To a lesser extend, the same can be asked about Busch. He is coming off a year where his OPS+ was 148. The year before it was 118. That was his first full season. Yes, he has started poorly. But I am not worried about him YET. Unless there is something physically wrong with him, he will come around.
  16. Very hard to predict the playoffs. Do the Cubs have the horses in the rotation? Maybe they do. Does anyone really know what Cabrera will become in the playoffs? Is Shota for real this year? How well will Steele pitch when he comes back? Will Boyd hold up this year with less innings during the regular season? Even if 3 of the 4 answers are positive responses, that would give the Cubs a solid playoff rotation. And maybe they add a starter in a trade.
  17. I’m not a huge fan of the “see what sticks” method of building a pen. But, if we are being honest, they aren’t bad at doing that. For all that wanted Williams as the closer, he just blew a game and has an era around 6. Diaz is going to be out for 3 months. The year before he was Scott, who sucks. Even Hader is on a long IL stint. Paying top dollar for a closer does appear to be fools money. While spreading the money around into several pen arms never gets you a top guy, it does give them options. And as I said, they do pretty well with how they spend it.
  18. I feel pretty good about the team as well. Obviously they have to stay away from any more pitching injuries and get Palencia and Maton back on the early side of their timeframe. Also, Steele coming back could be a huge addition. To me they look like a 90+ win team. Division does appear better, however. So this could be a race all season. Both the pirates and the reds have some solid staring pitching. Brewers can never be counted out. But in the end, IMO, the Cubs have the best 26 man roster and should prevail.
  19. Well a few of those guys are starters. But, yes, I agree that whichever catcher isn’t starting could be the best bench catcher in the game, Shaw is a great utility bat and Conforto is a solid left handed bench off the bench. Last guy is just that. A guy who hardly plays. Very solid bench.
  20. Here we go. No idea who this guy is. Probably our 12 relief pitcher, so how good can he be?
