  1. if you were really going to use a computer to call balls and strikes, umpires' jobs become very replaceable. you could probably just tell the union to go to hell and come up with your umpires elsewhere to make base calls if you wanted. i figure that if you've got the ball-strike computer going, it's not going to be any big thing to get the fair/foul one going as well. all the human umpires need to do is make calls on the bases, keep track of outs, and make sure angry players and managers don't beat up the robots.
  2. IDEA: don't trade valuable assets for players who hit .220/.264/.335 in nearly 500 at bats in the major leagues as a 27 year old. it should also be noted that while barmes' numbers at AAA this year look pretty good initially, they really are nothing special at all. as a 28 year old, he hit .299/.364/.451 on a TEAM that hit .292/.353/.452.
  3. agreed
  4. i've been a big cameron guy for a while, and i recognize that he's been in pitchers' parks forever, but i really don't think there's a lot left there.
  5. AGREED, I WANT TO VOTE FOR THE "BLACKS AND/OR RAPPERS ARE DESPICABLE" OPTION
  6. agreed. if they want anything to do with barry, they shouldn't voluntarily display stuff mocking him. Its a piece of baseball history. Its not the HOF's fault the ball was branded. what if the guy drew penises and swear words all over it? the HOF doesn't HAVE to display it. they are most definitely making a statement by doing so.

  8. wow, i can't believe that a guy whose job required him to work 125 hour weeks was less than a model parent
  9. espn says this is a second positive for a banned stimulant, not steroids
  10. yes! peter gammons talked about this on diamond notes way back when. brian mcrae told frank castillo he'd buy him a benzo if he ever hit a hr during bp. one day, weeks/months later, frank hit two.
  11. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/leo_gomez_autograph.jpg Leo Gomez! I remember him well! leo gomez had an awesome batting stance. i also remember him getting an important hit in late/extra innings on a groundball down the 3rd baseline once
  12. The Orioles ran Steve Trachsel and Victor Zambrano out there this year as starters. But yeah, they're set on starters. I went to baseballreference to double check their pitching(It is terrible, especially when Guthrie regresses) But they are right, their position players are terrible too. Terrible and old. They're gonna be hurting for a long time. maybe they're confusing bedard and daniel cabrera again, i do that sometimes, all those AL east non-boston/new york players seem the same to me
  13. that was fantastic, thanks
  14. What, you mean it might have had something to do that they only had three players that deserved a spot on a major league roster? He definately had some craptastic players. 1996 Cubs Oh jesus, Sosa had 40 home runs that year and only a .323 On base percentage. :| You have to try (there is no almost about it) to not take walks to do that. for real, his isop was only 12 points better than soriano's was this year
  15. i shudder to think of what a guy who is supposed to be a backup to ryan theriot is going to look like
