  1. points to da sig
  2. if figgins is going to sign for 4/36 and hendry isn't going to throw more money than that at him, i think we can all rest assured that we have no money whatsoever to spend this offseason.
  3. Ive always been a fan of Polanco and his oddly shaped cranium, but 3/18mil? Even if he wasnt 34 years old, that would sound like a lot for him. I guess Ibanez worked out for them so who knows. All I know is if This were the Cubs, there would be people with torches and pitchforks outside Hednrys door. well the people with torches and pitchforks would be stupid, because polanco is a very good defender, pretty solid hitter and generally worth a contract in that range. I'd say he's only worth a contract in that range playing MIF. I don't see him as an $18M third baseman. When you are getting 3b production from your SS and 2b, it probably doesn't mean as much if you settle for less at 3b. The production is interchangeable. you're just giving up that advantage though. a bad third baseman is worth the same regardless of what offense you're getting up the middle.
  4. I think the tandem of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are probably the most popular athletes in Chicago. i couldn't pick either out of a lineup.
  5. If Esquire had all this information before, and didn't report on it, weren't they in on the devil's bargain? If it wasn't worthy news when they knew it to be true, then why is it worthy news now? Too many times "journalists seem to go with this "I knew all about this, and it disgusted me" bit. Journalists are so in bed with the people they cover, afraid of losing a source by reporting anything, that it cracks me up to see them haw hawing at other journalists covering their asses. my thoughts exactly. either run this stuff out there in advance of events and deal with the consequences, or shut up about it altogether.
  6. we must have a lot more money to spend this offseason than i thought we did if we can blow this much on crappy grabow.
  7. i would prefer to not trade our entire farm system for a 29 year old outfielder who has dropped 60 points off of his ops each of the last two years.
  8. If you put faith in UZR, Adrian Gonzalez is not a bad pick, but not the best. Lee wins in that regard. He was only one-tenth of a point behind Gonzalez in UZR, but 1.3 points higher than him in UZR/150. But yeah Gonzalez and Lee were the best 1B this year, and Gonzalez winning is not a disservice to the award. It could've gone either way uzr is garbage on 1b, even if you like it for everything else EDIT: fourth!
  9. does this mean i can bring back the old "LEE FOR LF" campaign?
  10. if we spent that much money, they must all be great players, though, right?
  11. you're definitely not getting him for one year, and it should probably be noted that 17 of his 24 home runs were at home this year.
  12. since when do corner outfielders who play bad defense and can't manage 30 xbh's in ~500 pa's count as productive?
  13. Scioscia is a redass. He'll never take Bradley. I have to keep asking, why does this matter unless it's affecting play on the field? Has there been any indication that it has? if geovany soto or whoever is so stupid that he forgets how to hit or (chooses not to hit) because of how much he hates being around milton bradley, we're probably trying to trade the wrong guy.
  14. i hope that mr. pujols' elbow doesn't get infected and lead to his untimely demise
  15. I have plenty. I even posted some in this thread. Selective reading is fun Anyway: -The 2001 Rockies game -The clinching DH against Pittsburgh in 2003 -Hollandsworth's faceplant catch in Anaheim in 2004 -The final game of the 4-game sweep at Milwaukee in July 2008. My brother and I were at that game, and from about the bottom of the 7th inning on it was 95% Cubs fans in there. That was probably the most fun I've ever had at a baseball game -The Nomar trade. God was I pumped at the time. I really thought that was going to put us over the top -The Harden trade -The comeback at Wrigley against the Rockies in 2008 -2008's 9-game winning streak (in which I started those game threads). The Cubs played out of their minds. It was like they were never going to lose again. -Z's no-hitter. Need any more? the cubs didn't win the world series in any of those years, so they all suck
  16. That's not how bankruptcy works. i can't believe i'm going to give hccf the benefit of the doubt, but i think he was being sarcastic. he doesn't even know anymore
  17. yeah, memorable doesn't mean positive. say what you will about distributing blame and stuff, but it's pretty obviously bartman for me.
  18. does that feel right to you? 35 runs? he played 84 games in the of and 67 at first base. just because we have easy access to uzr doesn't mean we should just accept it as gospel.
  19. hopefully michael phelps if somebody steals michael phelps' organs in rio, i will give him or her a high five
  20. you shut up about rachel maddow, wekseman
  21. this guy sucks, let's all be glad we gave him away for junk 76.2 ip 2.70 era 100 k 23 bb 6 hr allowed 52 h allowed
  22. have you really never been punched in the face? i've been punched the face, and i'll bet i've been in 1/4 the arguments over communism that you have
  23. the bad thing about trading for rowand would be that we would probably play him. i'd rather trade mb for junk and save whatever tiny amount of money we can compared to trading for rowand and then go get someone who might be good to play in the outfield for us.
  24. if the cubs picked up ankiel, he'd be back on the yay before the end of spring training
  25. Including Samardzija is ridiculous. i think they meant "starts." if he starts improving, maybe he'll get good or something.
