  1. i sure hope that doesn't get infected
  2. that was actually pretty funny. good job lil buddy
  3. jesus, i hope lou isn't really stupid enough to make decisions that way.
  4. i doubt it. he doesn't strike out as many guys as pedro in his prime, and he's been really lucky this year. .268 BABIP with a 20% LD rate, and 0 HRs allowed. he's allowed 45 fly balls; his career HR/FB is a shade under 10% meaning that he'd "normally" have given up 3 or 4 HRs by now. his numbers should be excellent, but once the fly balls start going over the fence and he has a couple of bad starts, that ERA will probably end up in the mid 2's or something. this is true, but part of having a 2000 pedro season is getting lucky. pedro had a .237 BABIP in 2000. he was amazing, but it's pretty unlikely his ld% was low enough for that to be reasonable. also, i think greinke is a special enough case that it's reasonable to believe that his career hf/fb rate isn't going to reflect what he does this year.
  5. do you really think that's reflective of his true ability level, though? sure, he hasn't started hot, but he's absolutely a better option than anyone we actually have in the organization. EDIT: also it's still way early and so on. if he goes 4-4 with 4 singles today, his obp is .328 and his ops is 790. I don't think it's so far from his ability level going forward that we should be angry that he's not around to play corner infield everyday. Trading DeRosa wasn't a problem, replacing his spot on the roster with Miles and Gathright was. Also, DeRosa is 0 for 4 today. well, yeah, of course trading derosa and replacing him with someone similar who was as good or better would have been fine.

  7. he's only 29. if somebody wants to keep paying him, why wouldn't he want to keep playing? i wish i was a minor league baseball player. even if i had no shot at making the majors.
  8. the problem is that, unlike with american idol, baseball gm's aren't stupidly going to decide these people are talented just because they saw them on television
  9. that's on lou. wuertz was a pretty solid reliever and lou hated him. hendry basically had to give him away away because lou wasn't going to use him. hendry hired lou, anything hendry does because lou makes him do it is still on hendry.
  10. it's a shame that we have such a great first post in a thread in which the last post is going to be a string of 40 swear words and right before the thread gets locked
  11. thank god we have ryan freel
  12. i want this thread to be called "The Aramis is Dead Thread" change it, vance
  13. what happened in 14 ab's that moved gathright from guaranteed contract to get the hell out?
  14. my team is currently in ranked 802 out off 822. that's bad. brandon inge is murdering me.
  15. he got b& for no good reason

  17. those tshirts would definitely not be funny
  18. http://www.rinawear.com/images/images%20for%2008/jeanshortssm.jpg the complete absence of self-awareness is disturbing
  19. maybe in japan that's actually better than catching the ball
  20. this comes from the locked thread in transactions agreed, the cubs standard for deciding who gets to be on the team should be whatever would make for the best story goodbye aramis ramirez and derrek lee (raised in poverty in dominican republic? son of a guy who worked in baseball? i think we've heard these before.) hello whoever played first and third for the 2000 lsu tigers (entire infield reunited 9 years later, PRINT IT)
  21. i knew a guy in high school who took steroids for football. he was a real idiot, but went from being a scrawny guy to a guy who set a bunch of school records. unfortunately, he was still too dumb to play anywhere in college, which is pretty remarkable.
  22. oh, you think so, doctor?
  23. sell high? did you see what we got back for him? if you sell someone high, it's because you think you can get more back than he's worth. these don't look like prospects you get too excited about picking up.
  24. wait a minute, you guys might actually not get along after all. he's from boston and actually has a reason for rooting for the celtics, he'd probably think you were a jerk. Are you calling SSR the Meph of NBA fanhood? ssr is the meph of a lot of things (bad things)
