  1. if we're not going to win till 2015, we should probably see about trading castro as well, to be honest. a huge portion of his value is getting lots of wins out of him while paying him less than a million dollars. if we're just going to waste all those years anyway, we ought to see if we can get future value for current value we've no use for.
  2. hahahah the cubs have to sell their good expensive players to real teams like the reds
  3. Nonsense. If in 3 years the Cubs have a good team out that looks to be in it for the long haul it's not a failure. My gripe is the potential awfulness we have to witness to get to that point if they're trying to do it on the cheap. theo wouldn't be a failure under those circumstances, but we'd be giving him an awful low bar to hop over. i mean, how many guys have gotten a chance to do things that way? to have easily top-5 resources in the league, but don't worry about losing 100 games over and over while you rebuild for three straight seasons?
  4. if we really don't have a huge advantage over the other teams in our division that play in way smaller and crappier cities, it has to be because of wrigley and we should all be in favor of tearing it down and getting a generic boring new stadium like everyone else has. i really doubt this is the case, though.
  5. theo is going to hold out for his non-union mexican equivalent (senor kurodo) and pay him 900 dollars to pitch for us next season and give us -4.5 war while sneaking the payroll in just under 100M.
  6. double plus side, we can all get realllllllllllly good tickets for $10 on stubhub for every game after august 1st
  7. make sure those incentives don't kick in until after we trade him, i don't want to get stuck paying him $70M
  8. if you squint, you can hardly tell a difference 9.4 - 1.5pt white guilt penalty = still strong 7.9
  9. I'd be all over that. what the hell would be the point? we're garbage next year anyway, and after the season he'll either have sucked and not be worth re-signing or good and too expensive to sign. Well, it might appease the fanbase a bit in what they otherwise might perceive as a terrible offseason (provided the Cubs deal Garza and don't sign Fielder). Plus, you could possibly offload him to a contender mid-season and get a nice prospect or two in return. i imagine we'd have to waaaaaay outbid everyone else in order to convince oswalt to go for that. "hey roy! how'd you like to come play on a 65-win team for three months and then get traded wherever we feel like sending you come july?"
  10. I'd be all over that. what the hell would be the point? we're garbage next year anyway, and after the season he'll either have sucked and not be worth re-signing or good and too expensive to sign. well, i'd be all over that if we keep garza and sign fielder. he's definitely an interesting play for a team that is trying to win games next season, despite the fact that his k/rate took a somewhat frightening dive last year.

  12. percy harvin can rot in hell, don't play him
  13. i bet cespedes is really excited to leave cuba and find out what north america is like
  14. i think the main upshot is that we need to get theo to promise that all that "ten years and out" thing was just bogus crap to justify leaving boston. ain't no way that's gonna cut it.
  15. these threads where we think news is coming shortly are usually really fun EVERYONE START BEING FUN
  16. you guys if we win i promise to make a reallllllllly boring cartoon thing about men in suits deciding what number to write on a piece of paper and then sending it to some other men for some other other men to read
  17. Points deducted for nonsensical ending. misspelling "sans" in order to spell your name is part of the joke 10.6
  18. bears are a disaster, have to know the line will shoot up nice and high, this is just a brand new team sons cutler
  19. i only support trading for rizzo if tim promises to change the world filter to make his name show up as "The RZO"
  20. that's a pretty terrible way to describe what's going to happen
  21. Yea. Rotoworld is clearly enabling Metta World Peace. i bet he was about to change his name back and then he checked rotoworld and saw what they were calling him
  22. what most people don't know, though, is that if you ask dj qualls if he is a cop, he DOES have to tell you.
  23. are you guys ready to just laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh? i have a 22pt lead going into week 2 of the semifinal and i need to pick a rb from these options: maurice morris @oak (likely backing up kevin smith this week) toby gerhart vs no (ad is back) kahlil bell vs sea (maybe lovie hates barber now?) mike tolbert vs bal donald brown vs ten the waiver wire includes such luminaries as jackie battle, peyton hills, dexter mccluster, and bernard scott.
  24. Probably not, in part because our douchebag color commentator was allowed to launch on him constantly and no one from the front office bothered to call him out on it. and also in part because the first thing our new gm did was pass on his option [EDIT i'm an idiot, ignore that part. we picked up the option and offered arb knowing aramis would choose free agency] and, at least to all outward appearances, make no effort whatsoever to even talk to him about coming back. it's certainly possible that we considered bringing aramis back and it never leaked and his agent was too lazy to mention it an effort to up his value, but it looks more like we weren't interested in aramis at any price. and at this price, i think that was a mistake. if hendry were here, we'd all be talking about how he was infatuated with stewart and stupidly wanted to trust his scouts and find a diamond in the rough instead of just spending a very reasonable sum of money on a player who has actually had good and great seasons. but i suppose such apocrypha are only to used to describe the inner workings of front offices we don't have cute nicknames for. Boy, one false step and the whole stack of cards comes down. Nice anti-jebadore rant though. i'm still very pro-epstein in general. hopefully, this is all part of some bigger plan, and when it is revealed i will know i was foolish to have ever questioned any of its intricacies.
