  1. i am legit curious if he wants to get into broadcasting. brenly's schtick is old, but he's still so much better than most of the morons out there. i think he definitely wants to be a part of the cubs organization after he retires. i just assumed it would be broadcasting. i would pay upwards of 12 dollars to buy a hot dog from kerry wood
  2. surprise whom? i think a lot of people are expecting a lot of travis wood. lahair producing would certainly be a surprise, though.
  3. i don't know, but i'll bet we're getting awfully close to tom being able to make payroll out of what he's got in his wallet at any given time.
  4. i don't want to argue about this or have a back and forth, but if he had sex with this person without her consent, he is a rapist (and a lot of other very bad things and i hope something terrible happens to him). i don't care about any spectrum or the use of force or any of that. and yes, where he falls between totally innocent and rape is far from known, but this all started when you complained that someone said starlin "might be" a rapist. holy god do i ever hope he didn't do this, but there's not much reason to think you can say "oh, don't even say that he might be a rapist, there's no way that's true."
  5. yeah but you'll probably only get something stupid like chris volstad back
  6. Slow down there champ. We're a helluva long way from rapist. Notice I said wouldn't and might be. I obviously wasn't saying he's a rapist, if you actually read what I wrote. All of this is conjecture at this point, I just thought the notion that a fan only cares about legal ramifications to be a bit callous, that's all. I did read what you wrote. And we're a long way from rapist. Even if Castro is charged with something or even convicted of something, we're a long way from rape. So for a fan to take a wait and see approach before reacting seems reasonable. ? what incorrect definition of rape are you using? how are we are long ways from rape? if he did what he has been accused of, he's a rapist.
  7. You appear to have misspelled "the sun". "hey bryan, we're going to need you to get in this rocket ship now, don't worry, i'm sure it's going somewhere bright and warm"
  8. also, what with the starlin stuff, i think this means anthony rizzo is my favorite cub.
  9. my first reaction is that i have no idea how to value cashner. it seems like he was probably going to just get stuck in the bullpen or something. i guess we would've been in a good position to take the time and stretch him out to start, but i really don't know how likely that would be. is there any reason to think it would've been a good idea to let him throw more than like 120-140 innings this year? i think i am okay with this.
  10. that seems like an odd one rule to live by. golden rule out, newusername rule in i expect official acknowledgment of world peace in the next two weeks
  11. [expletive], i know. im still struggling to accept it. i honestly had a series of thoughts about this is exactly the sort of bad dream i would have and then contemplated whether i was sleeping. i don't think i am though.
  12. if cubbiebum got b& for being annoying and everyone hating him, i think this thread should be the end of wsr. good riddance, i don't want to ever read anything you have to say ever again. and i'd be one hell of a hypocrite if i didn't acknowledge that i'll never think the same way of starlin again. devastating.
  13. I don't sense that people have their feelings hurt so much that they're absolutely dead set that their viewpoint is right, and every other viewpoint is wrong. asdryh aWEL;GSDKAgjl;sdga;laksdghL;KSDGHl;kdgkdghlkashdg;lkHSDL;KGHASD8YHsdopgthS0G8HSAD -0G i really don't see how giving ssr an aneurysm isn't a b&able offense. DO YOUR DUTY, MODS
  14. Maybe Stevens will take the job. we've got to be getting into the realm of three to four dump trucks at that point. be realistic ssr, come on.
  15. You can use either for either, a similar point applies either way. The biggest difference between FIP and xFIP is normalization of HRs/FB. For Wood, he was better than average at limiting HRs and Volstad was worse than average, which is a little odd considering where each played the majority of their games. i know that. i'm just pointing out that people are kind of cherry-picking a little bit. with wood, everyone just said LOOK AT HIS FIP and ignored the fact that xfip said he was hr lucky last year. now we're all brushing off volstad's fip and saying he'll be fine due to hr normalization.
  16. That is such nonsense. He's not responsible for turning this team into a juggernaut this year, but they should win more than they are in-line to win. He inherited a flawed organization. But the pieces were out there to turn this team into at least a respectable club this season without destroying any future hope for greater success. If winning 60 instead of 80 games thus year makes the team significantly better in 2013-14, it's stupid not to do it. Are you seriously saying that it could be easier to move from a 60 win team to contender than it would be an 80 win team to contender in one offseason? I don't want to put words in MR's mouth, but if the Cubs were to trade all of the remaining guys with expiring contracts (Dempster, Byrd, etc.) for top prospects that will spend 2012 in AAA and 2013 in MLB, then it's pretty easy to get to the conclusion that the team is worse off in 2012 but better off in 2013. those are going to be some really good trades.
  17. i don't mind being on the other side of him if his plan means i don't bother watching cubs games after may until 2015
  18. Didn't read the defined terms, I see. He wasn't traded to the Rangers after reaching the majors? Wasn't he still a rookie his first year with the rangers? I don't know how TT counts players with less than a year of ML service time. The overall point is he wasn't acquired as a FA. ETA: he had more time in the majors in Cincy than I thought. My bad. Don't know anything about baseball, I see. (burrrrrrrrrn)
  19. i like how we only hear about fip when discussing travis wood and only hear about xfip when discussing chris volstad.
  20. why shouldn't he be smug? he was completely right all along. the cubs absolutely positively couldn't bring zambrano back. he knows a lot more about this team than i do.
  21. http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/cubs-talk/post/Zambrano-trade-a-huge-win-for-Cubs?blockID=625036&feedID=8487 i hereby retract every post i've made in this thread
  22. hahahahaha, really? zambrano now would require a miracle to have a season better than his worst one? learn to read (and quote) i miss the old david :(
  23. hahahahaha, really? zambrano now would require a miracle to have a season better than his worst one?
  24. the main argument from people who like this trade is basically "why take the chance of getting nothing next july when we can get nothing right now?"
