  1. beckman sounds about right. i mean, who did you expect, nick saban? Sounds like somebody doesn't know how to operate a dump truck. maybe thomas is a darcula and could only rent the dump truck fore daylight hours
  2. I think the Ricketts' and Theo have a long term plan and they are sticking to it. As long as "long-term plan" doesn't mean decades (or centuries) . Ricketts and Theo would be dead by then if it meant centuries. not if their darculas
  3. A big market team that is in on talks for big market moves but only makes small market moves is operating in small market mode until they actually make a big market move. The Yankees and Red Sox are in small market mode. they don't have lousy rosters as of this moment though, that's a pretty terrible comparison
  4. Is this post for serious? szj somehow brings the winning combination of not serious and not funny to literally every one of his posts.
  5. FUN GAME guess the cubs' payroll next year if we don't sign fielder or darvish i'm not being snarky or sarcastic here. i'm honestly curious. is there any way we get to 130 million? do you think the ricketts are concerned at all about what the fan perception would be if the payroll dipped dramatically? i really can't believe we're going to pass on every expensive free agent and then trade for anybody who costs anything. i really, really think that we are operating under the presumption that darvish is coming.
  6. It's the only thing I'm on this thread to discuss. Anyone want to create a "Kyle's Personality" thread, we can have all kinds of fun. It probably goes in Social or Rants and not Transactions, though. which of those do you not post in, i'm going to go start it
  7. i think i liked hating tyler colvin and starting threads about how much he sucked more than i will like ian stewart's utter mediocrity (if things work out and he doesn't just ops 214 or whatever again) verdict: BAD TRADE
  8. In partial seasons, in an extreme hitter's park. And he didn't hit .260 in any of them and only reached a .340 OBP in one of them. I'm pretty comfortable predicting he won't reach 260/340/440. Maybe 240/320/440 if everything goes right. According to Fangraphs, that would have been good for tied for 10th out of 14 qualified 3b. He's entering his prime years. He's been just shallow of .260 and .340. ehhh, he's in his prime years, not entering them. and it's usually not a great thing to spend a year of your prime putting up an ops+ less than your age.
  9. Maybe they want the chance to shoot the ball. for howard, i was going to go with "concerns over public sentiment of the legitimacy of his statistics given the enormous quantity of offensive rebounds he had the chance to pursue."
  10. things are going to get real freaking dire when somebody bids 65m to talk to darvish
  11. ssr (slip him a roofie and dump him in the river)
  12. imb (threaten your girlfriend and then beat the s out of him)
  13. i call that one the masturbator
  14. it looks like we're going to get the toledo guy is that good or bad?
  15. and now i have an answer for the next time someone asks me what i'd do if i had a time machine How would you go about making me a Marlins fan? i'll get jeff conine to pee in your bed in 1993
  16. HE NEEDED TO SELL THOSE AUTOGRAPHS TO BUY BLURAYS FOR HIS FAMILY
  17. and now i have an answer for the next time someone asks me what i'd do if i had a time machine
  18. i really wondered if that might not be the case. if the market for fielder wanted to somehow crater, that'd probably be okay.
  19. we can get the law school to fudge the numbers and make it look we're actually a top 25 program
  20. i think i agree on both fielder and darvish. how wild would you go for yu? is the 50 and 50 thing the ceiling?
  21. yeah, i was just going to say the same thing. running those numbers is hard, and the people involved here are not smart. they almost certainly just looked at the tax rates in each state and assumed yearly salary times state tax rate equals money lost by not going to florida or texas.
  22. i am really excited for it to come out that he signed for like 10/210 with a bunch of money deferred over 30 years or something and that this deal will allow the team to keep their star and not hinder them long-term at all.
