  1. same. in a slightly related story, i was talking to someone last night and said "en tee cee" instead of "no trade clause." not my greatest moment.
  2. and he won't be wrong to do so. fukudome at -11 and dejesus at +14 per 150 games in right field is a joke. prior to last year, DeJesus averaged +10 the previous six seasons per TZ yeah, there's a weird, odd, gaping disparity between UZR and TZ for Fukudome, but DeJesus should legitimately be regarded as a very strong fielder i'm not saying dejesus isn't a strong fielder, just that the only reason he looks like a big upgrade in war is because uzr thinks fukudome is cliff floyd
  3. Colvin sucked balls, Fukudome wasn't any worse than you could expect Dejesus to be. ?? I'd expect DeJesus (2.2 WAR) to do what he did last year and Fukudome (-.2 WAR) was way worse than that. A 2.4 WAR difference between the two is significant. Jersey is going to respond that Fukudome's WAR is dragged down by the RNG that is fielding stats. and he won't be wrong to do so. fukudome at -11 and dejesus at +14 per 150 games in right field is a joke.
  4. this is your 34k post! celebrate like paul pierce and get stabbed in the face
  5. I think 5 years is more than enough patience. Unfortunately, it would take that long or more to actually put together a winning team based on good drafts. don't worry though, theo has a great track record of developing a great farm system without just throwing gobs of money at it
  6. high fives all around bros
  7. True. However, most Bears fans I know in real life (both in Wisconsin and in Illinois) aren't the brightest bulbs themselves. Every fanbase has stupid fans. What's your point? i am not willing to accept your conclusion that the people who choose to be your friend are reflective of the bears' fan base as a whole
  8. it's a pretty unfair advantage that the packers are the only team in the nfl with a fan base stupid enough to fall for that "stock" scheme.
  9. D'oh, I wasn't thinking that through. His defense there is just as bad, though. Eh, looking at his dWAR on BR I'm actually surprised at how NOT horrible defensively he's been more often than not. I was expecting a lot worse. Yeah, he's had some brutal years in there, but I was expecting wall-to-wall awfulness. Try fangraphs. They'll give you more what you are looking for there. this is pretty much how defensive statistics work. just shop around until you find the one that supports whatever you want to argue.
  10. And every game that he pitches, every week that you hold on to him during the regular season, another bit of his value as a cost-controlled player gets spent. Once you spend it, there's no getting it back. Short-term asset. his low price isn't the only thing that makes him an asset.
  11. Aren't you on meds for that? ahahaha - oooh wait that makes no sense whatsoever. Only to someone not intelligent enough to understand it. to score this one, let's go to our celebrity judges!
  12. like that video you made with derwood, erik and roast? ..coming soon... NO
  13. they both get 3.0's, please move on to something funnier
  14. Pujols knows of the Marlins' fire sale ways, and that a 10-year contract screams 2 years, a World Series, and then summarily being dumped elsewhere to save money. the alternative is that he makes 25 million dollars on a team with a budget of 40 million dollars that wins 65 games in 2015. although i suppose if he is afraid of a firesale, the ntc is really important just in that it will help him to maneuver himself to a team of his choosing (and continue getting paid more than anyone else is offering him).
  15. Depending on the price we could do far worse than Gaby Sanchez. i wish the cubs were a big market team like the marlins so we could sign good players and then flip mediocrities like sanchez to the starving masses
  16. 1.6
  17. he has kind of a tool face and his first name is logan, let's not get ahead of ourselves
  18. somebody better link me to an obituary for the person who came up with the name "intentional talk" or i am going to lose my faith in humanity
  19. who is mul21 and why is he so awesome
  20. Good point. Mineaswell do it then. i don't know if you're being serious, but if we're not going to spend any money or be any good in 2012, taking on bad contracts that expire after next season in order to get players who will be good and we will keep beyond 2012 is a really good idea.
  21. There are worse gambles than Hudson being a 2 win player for one year, but at his dollars plus the commitment to Headley, you'd start to run into a situation where you can't make the big gains you need to at SP and 1B without more payroll. Getting flexibility in a deal involving Marmol, Soto, Garza, Soriano, Zambrano, or Byrd would do the trick, though. I'm sort of operating under the assumption that we won't be making any superstar acquisitions. If we do, I'll just consider it a nice surprise bonus. Then it shouldn't really matter what 1 year contracts we take on then, right? I'd still like to be efficient with the money we spend. why? we don't get bonus money to spend in the draft for every dollar under 130 million we stay.
  22. freakin ricketts has deadspin blocked at work so this was theo's only option
  23. I'd take numbers not existing just so I didn't have to hear about how a guy is a certain # starter rather than a different # starter. You got to nd base? Loser, I got to rd base with her last week! You're right. This is better. Like I'd ever let her stop me at nd base. i'm pretty sure i get to legally murder you now
  24. I had the exact same thought. So did jaydee. 8.5
