    every time this thread gets bumped with optimism, it reminds me of the scene in little big league when billy heywood's favorite player gets a seeing-eye single and billy is convinced that means he's coming out of it.

    as a tribute to the good baez of old, we should all say "who?" whenever baez comes up since he's like the 12th best cub and minor league baez never knew who the twelfth best guy on his team was.

    RIP Fred. He was always kind and funny on here. I met him once and he was even kinder and funnier. He bought me a drink and asked me where I was from and immediately started in on stories he knew about the place. Reading this thread, it seems like that was a go-to for him, and I think it's a really beautiful one. He went out of his way to find things in common and try to engage with everyone he met if only because, well, wouldn't that be nice to do? And wouldn't that be fun for both of us? A great man. He will be missed, and not only by his closest loved ones, or all of us here who are lucky enough to be able to share our stories with about his greatness, but also by people all over the country, people who may not even know he's gone, but will always remember that especially kind and interesting man they happened to have a conversation with once.

    i guess I'm just a broken cynic in this regard, but i generally just assume everyone at the top is cheating and probably lots of other people too. bolt is that much faster than everyone else naturally? surrrrre. katie ledecky wins all her races by 15 seconds without cheating? likely story.

    He should be "mad at" the genius who put a C(or CI) fresh off of catching 15 straight scoreless inning behind the plate in LF so he can force a fat worthless toad into the game behind the plate. And ahead of time, NO...i don't buy that the 24 year old can't catch a day game after a night game, especially considering the limited time behind the plate he's spent overall.
