My first workplace conversation about the new Cubs season was yesterday, and it was with a kindly older lady whose only real concern was Barney bouncing back and how she felt they screwed him over last year. how is poor darwin supposed to get into a rhythm if he only gets 555 plate appearances? i bet he could've gotten that ops up to .580 with some regular playing time.

I really don't think that Arizona thing is a money issue. Then what? They negotiated in bad faith and never planned on building anything? They've got a pretty long list of money issues that somehow aren't money issues. i don't know how this works with the actual timeline, but i like to think they negotiated the deal with mesa in the wake of their failure to get money from the city of chicago to upgrade wrigley. just ricketts sitting at his desk, screaming at kenney "FIND ME A CITY TO [expletive] OVER."

castro rebounds + rizzo rebounds + baez indicates he can play third in 2015 + bryant indicates he can play right in 2015 + we sign scherzer + we sign someone else but i have no idea whom since all the position players who fit suck and there's no way we're signing one big starting pitcher, let alone two = still a pretty mediocre team in in 2015. and it's very, very unlikely all of those things actually happen. yes, there are other good things you can substitute for these, but they are all either way less likely to actually happen (olt gets the levar burton headband over his eyes and doesn't suck) or of considerably lesser value (we trade samardzija the 3 win pitcher for two guys who might be 2 win pitchers in 2015).
