  1. i thoroughly enjoyed the parts where he said not even optimistic cub fans think the team can be good in 2015, that the team will not be good in 2016 unless ownership allows a bunch of spending (which we all know isn't going to happen), and that theo has us set up for success in 2018. vomit vomit vomit i agree completely that it would be nice to go back and have this front office back when the things they knew how to do were special. but if the things they do well now aren't any different than anyone else, why write these glowing pieces about how great they are? we appear to have a front office no smarter than but a couple teams and no dumber than but a couple teams. hurray?
  2. fastball was surprisingly lively as well, which made it all the more shocking that he got hit pretty hard (not that i'm putting any import on ST results).
  3. castro could have terminal cancer and baez wouldn't make the opening day lineup
  4. it would've made me really happy if when len said to randy bush "man, nate schierholtz had a really good year last year, didn't he?" randy had replied "nah, not really."
  5. the 750 ops box, then trade bryant and soler for someone who can rake while enjoying almora and baez's solid if unspectacular production at premium positions
  6. selig and the yankees are probably conspiring to have arod poisoned at this very moment
  7. i don't wada watch this guy pitch anymore
  8. this is fun i guess, but if the cardinals play this same game and assume everyone hits their high-level projections, they win like 125 games in 2016
  9. Does anyone actually believe this? #outlawcurve
  10. Probably lots of ours lamenting that we don't have that and have mr. happy positivity guy instead yeah, i was going to say, a large swath of every fanbase would love it, especially ours. imagine if sandberg rolled in here and his first act as manager was to be mean to starlin castro for no reason. he'd be emperor for life.
  11. it is really going to suck when the renovation plan turns out to be adding another deck and some bleachers to the park in mesa so the cubs can move to arizona
  12. Got to find some reason to justify the building costs. ricketts stocked the facility with three years' worth of easy mac and he'll be damned if he's going to let even one of those cheese packets expire uneaten
  13. roast refused to sign off on it though so the guy doing it just looks like some rando
  14. remember the magic of wrigley field! where a lot of great things happened to teams that aren't the cubs
  15. this thread is the saddest thread. i know this day has been diluted by all the pre-sales and combo packages and stuff, but still.
  16. i honestly feel like if baez is only solid and not great, there's a real chance we'll be having this same conversation about when to start his clock next march
  17. i will be angry if donald goes behind us
  18. crack is whack
  19. you guys keep this cussing [expletive] up and we'll never get clark the cub here for an interview i think the furry chats are over man, djaxx hasn't posted in [expletive] forever
  20. I like how he said When he played 22 fewer games in AAA last year but still put up 3 more homers, 3 less RBI, 2 less walks, and 110 more points in OPS. Not complaining though, I just thought it was funny talk about needing to see him dominate AAA first when he already put up better numbers there in fewer games than he did at AA. baez was in a+ and aa last year, not aa and aaa
  21. also note the glory that is sosa in cf, thus indicating this is likely one of those all-mash/no-defense lineups with henry rodriguez, sosa, and glenallen hill across the outfield.
  22. Nothing really new that I heard, but it was still worth the listen. Reiterated that Baez isn't "knocking down the door" yet and won't be until he's dominating AAA. Well, he did outwardly say that they went as far as they were willing to go on a few really good free agents (that on its own doesn't mean that much) that really interested them even if they weren't the perfect age within the context of saying that the planned pursuit of Tanaka didn't keep them from doing anything else that they wanted. I don't quite know how to express my reaction to this but it's certainly not positive it's probably (hopefully) just a lie. coming out with "yeah we had no idea our offer would be tens of millions of dollars short so we passed on the entire offseason to make it" would not exactly make him sound super competent.
  23. that guy at bleacher report who talked to him at the convention made it sound like olt was going to stay on the drops forever given the choice between olt and no drops vs drops and no olt, I'll take the drops.
