  1. this is very confusing to me. are we just putting all these guys up for grabs as a favor to the rangers?
  2. are you suggesting the baez/bryant/edwards game might have been more fun to get to watch than the wada/almora injuring himself game?
  3. We re-signed him to a different kind of minor league deal the next day. ahhhh thanks
  4. i thought we released wada
  5. tt making the google spreadsheet where you could make cubs projections that wrecked itself if you made bryan lahair good was the best thing ever
  6. Scott Feldman last spring: 20 IP, 11.25 ERA, 17/6 K/BB, 7 HR good call. i feel like there used to be a strong consensus that we should make fun of people who paid attention to spring training stats. i feel like that has kind of dwindled. let's bring it back!
  7. DEBATE did starlin intentionally spell his name wrong when setting up his instagram?
  8. group a chris davis group b evan longoria mark trumbo group c giancarlo stanton matt holliday bryce harper group d wil myers yasiel puig yadier molina matt adams david wright wild card pm'd
  9. i played baseball through high school and never really got drilled in an organized game, but one time i was playing baseball in an empty lot with my friends when i was like 10 and i took a line drive to the face. i was pitching and the guy hit the ball straight back at me. i remember that it knocked me unconscious for a moment, but i don't see how that could be possible given that chapman got hit by a ball moving a thousand times faster and didn't go out. the ball hit me right above the lip and busted me up pretty good. the first thing i remember thinking once i realized what was going on was the it probably busted my teeth so i immediately started putting my hands in my mouth to see if they were all there like a crazy person.
  10. honest question: what do you think dave kaplan's approval rating is among cub fans?
  11. clay aiken is fakin' nothing hopefully controversy doesn't read this forum either
  12. So the final product ISN'T the most important part? It's the thing that sustains the rest and what everything else is building towards. Who exactly was doing this and where? I just don't understand why the previous owners and FO were rightfully lambasted for only being focused on one aspect of the organization, yet the current group shouldn't be. We all wanted the farm system to be improved, but nobody except the most masochistic of stereotypical miserable Cubs fans wanted or thought that that tanking the major league team for years was the way to go. Yeah, that's the reality of the situation at this point and there's no turning back, but the current owners should get [expletive] for fostering an environment and plan that was so lopsided for so long. this really is a big issue. we dumped several years so we could get good draft picks and improve the farm system. the farm system has improved, but this is the easy part. even if this guys work out to some extent, it's not like we're a big market team that can start buying guys. the front office is going to have to show that they can put together a good farm system without high draft picks.* *the fun part here is that if they do so, it proves that we shouldn't have bothered to tank over and over again since a smart group can build up the farm even without picking at the top of the draft every year.
  13. What in the actual hell? I didn't see this here. Possible we just gave him away? It's not like he's got value on his own. guys, he died have some respect awwwwwwwwwesome
  14. Would going .500 feel substantially better to you than losing 90 games? Because at the end of the day, it wouldn't feel much different to me. Non-contention sucks, and that dissatisfaction is not assuaged by the pretense of "respectability". I think the Cubs are a year or two from contention, and whether we lose 80 or 90 games this year doesn't make one iota of difference, imo. I am a lot more excited about the team than I was, say, in the second half of the 2011 season. yes i would much prefer to win 81 games than 65. i like watching baseball, and if the cubs aren't a miserable sack of [expletive], i get to keep doing that for the whole season instead of willing myself to forget they exist by the second week of june.
  15. you have an extremely low bar for what constitutes "an exciting time to be a cubs fan" if you think two weeks before the start of a season in which we have no real chance of going even .500 suffices.
  16. I wanna say Kent Bottenfield. Edit: But he did not pitch for the 1998 Cubs, so there's a good chance that's wrong. First start, I wanna say Expos and he K'd like 8 in 4 or something like that. you're definitely right about it being the expos and a bunch of k's in less than a full start. i have no idea who went on the dl though.
  17. great news "nolan ryan dollar hot dog night" is coming up soon at a texas rangers game
  18. baez completely misplays a groundball :(
  19. I'd be pretty happy with that, especially considering he'll take a decent amount of walks and play solid D at 3B. All in all, my guess is he'd border on being a top 10 3B, if he did accomplish that. i bet top ten would be selling him short in that scenario. i also struggle to give him that many home runs with that average unless he's only that low because he's babip unlucky.
  20. baez just had the best swing and miss i've ever seen
  21. olt with a really weird inside out swing that generated a moderately well-hit sac fly
  22. ryan kalish has so much grit nice
  23. he's so boring he's distracting me from the game ACTUAL QUESTION: "why should they choose globelife?" ACTUAL ANSWER: "i think globelife is a company that has the same family values that the rangers have."
  24. i can't believe how boring this guy is
