    from jonah keri's big 2014 mlb predictions column: i was pretty surprised to read this and thought most people regarded rizzo highly going forward and assumed cashner would just get hurt. does keri's sentiment there reflect the smart guy conventional wisdom?

    Consistently? I hope I am, but I think most of the time he'll be hovering below 2. Certainly could be a lot worse, but I think he's just too vulnerable against LH pitching and not damaging enough against RH pitching. I know it seems like most here hate BR's defensive metrics, but I was thinking of their 2012 rating for him when I said that. I don't think he'll regularly be ranked that high, but I think his defense is more likely than his offense to sharpen up at this point. go read all that stuff North posted a while back about rizzo again. i think there's a lot of reason to think anthony ends up a solidly above average offensive first baseman. castro i have no idea how what to think he'll do going forward.

    i am treymon welcome to gam thread the cubs sucked in game 1, but even bad game 1 is better than the day off after game 1. i hate it so much. doubly so when we didn't score a run in the first game. also, there was a lot of talk in gam thread for game 1 that no one would be paying attention to gam thread starting with game 2. NOT ON MY WATCH YOU JACKALS. everyone should pledge a number of posts they plan to make in this thread so that we can be assured gam thread 2 is even better than gam thread 1. in conclusion, edwin is going to have a good year so that will start now. hopefully the cubs can get him a run or two.
