  1. Also, that gordon td late sucked. If I lose in fantasy playoffs because of that, conte's getting a sternly worded letter in the mail from me.
  2. wilson is a packers fan. why are you guys even talking to him?
  3. the new market inefficiency is being that guy who bought something on ebay for a dollar and sold it for two and then bought something for two and sold it for three and so on until he had a million bucks
  4. if you were ever so inclinced, a brief primer on this sort of stuff would probably be hugely appreciated by many on this board.
  5. it was nice of the cubs to build mesa a high school in left field
  6. WE AGREED TO LET YOU SPEND YOUR OWN MONEY ON YOUR OWN BUSINESS, WHY AREN'T YOU DOING IT YET, A-HOLES
  7. i am pretty excited about the fact that "suck dick" gets by the word censors
  8. two guys in the outfield and seven guys on the infield is the new moneyball
  9. Not that I expected the Cubs to be players for Granderson, but jesus christ do our present OF options look bleak. OFers presently on the 40 man: Bogusevic, Sweeney, Jackson, Soler, Lake, Schierholtz and Szczur. Barring a move, what is our opening day OF? Sweeney/Lake/Schierholtz? I'm holding out hope that we can gamble on Hart. yeah but he's talking about outfielders
  10. i dont even know what that is we dicked around with lendy castillo after taking him in the rule 5 draft. at the time, it was assumed that dicking around with fake injuries was okay. it turns out that was wrong. the phillies now get our rule 5 draft pick. this is probably not a big deal since most people think we weren't going to take anyone anyway. even if we were, we could probably buy some team's pick for like $50,000.
  11. Dammit. I knew there was something I was forgetting about. totally ignoring kyle's garbage isn't something any of us can accomplish overnight. we're all improving and that's what counts.
  12. wtg cody ransom
  13. REAL TALK i had never heard of wesley wright until i saw this thread. his strikeout numbers are delicious, though. why so cheap?
  14. Sounds about right; I always think back to how he said he was "blown away" by Ricketts' pitch to get him to come here, and I have to think that a huge part of that was emphasizing how they'd be able to modernize and upgrade the ballpark like Boston did and how much money that would bring in. While it makes sense that Theo would be relatively broadsided by the way things have played out, it's very disconcerting how stymied the Ricketts are, and it just again makes me worried that Theo and co. could be out of here sooner rather than later if the logjam doesn't clear up soon and the team doesn't turn around pretty damn fast. how big of a concern would it really be if theo and the rest left? i like the people we have, but it's not like they have a bunch of secrets that no one else does and are using them to exploit all the other teams' idiocy. what is their value over replacement right now? i love that we have smart people rather than hendrys, but i'm not seeing a ton of amazing moves that couldn't be replicated by another group of people who have been given instructions to try to get good prospects and don't worry about whether you finish in last place over and over again. if everyone left, i assume ricketts would just go hire more smart people who want to build slowly and they would do basically the same thing as we've seen to this point.
  15. that's exactly what i was about to ask. is it still possible for someone smart to piece together a good offseason that isn't just "um the marlins are dumb so they trade us their five best players for a full report on what dale sveum is like behind closed doors."
  16. started ray rice (12) and zac stacy (8) over ben tate (28) and now i am on track to lose by ten. BUT if i am looking at things right, i clinched a playoff spot anyway. hurray for ff!
  17. i have never really understood why people like the current road uniforms so much. the new alts sound cool, though. i will buy one when the cubs get a good player.
  18. Bill James is pretty much a kook at all non-baseball stuff Ok because I was like "this is an incredibly bright person who I really admire believing in utter [expletive]." It did not compute. It's really bizarre how this theory has come back. It was posed in a book 20 years ago and the agent it accused sued the publisher and it basically went away. The only thing I can guess is that with the agent now dead they're trotting it out again with the anniversary since it's a theory that sticks out even among the most ridiculous conspiracies. [expletive], Bill Kurtis was hosting a special seriously debating it the other night. i am not a person who is knowledgeable about jfk assassination stuff at all. what is the argument that disproves all the stuff about the head shot coming from a secret service member at ground level?
  19. it would be pretty cool if you put the hundred dollar bill on your forehead and injected the heroin through it. give the paramedics a story worth telling.
  20. if this were madden, this would be the point at which i start calling punt rush on every play just force the other team to throw for touchdowns instead of running
