  1. Who does Baltimore have at SS without Tejada? Cedeno would almost certainly need to be included. Walker may be a possibility at 1B, but he'd be at the low end of production there, and they have an All-Star 2B, so that's out of the question. This works out fine IMO, since I think Cedeno can best help the Cubs as a trading chip. Let the O's have him.
  2. So he can't opt out and become a free agent? Diffusion's post says otherwise. I'm confused.
  3. Snow has its charms, but cold in and of itself sucks. I actually like running in the city when it's snowing. I did 13.65 miles Tuesday morning. It was 12 deg F. at O'Hare when I left, probably about 5 deg. by the lake, where I did most of the distance. It was snowing and beautiful and I never felt cold. I did another 17 miles during the blizzard conditions Thursday evening with snow up over my ankles. The city and Lincoln Park in particular were gorgeous with the snow blanket. If you take the snow away you lose the scenery and you're just left with a big cold crappy city. Those conditions are unpleasant and uninspiring and I usually don't run very well in them.
  4. Dude, get that creepy ass thing out of your sig PLEASE. Every time I have seen a picture of that dog it has stuck in my brain for hours afterwards. It seriously gives me the willies.
  5. For someone like Tejada you have to make ALL your minor leaguers available. If we were in the Orioles' shoes we would demand the same, and rightly so. Pie, Hill, and Cedeno all have to be on the table.
  6. You could be right. But to me taking time away from baseball was the best thing for him. Sometimes they way to solve a problem is to back away from it for a while, regroup, and try again. I do not believe that Corey has been sitting at home and working on his stamp collection. He probably has found someone he trusts and has been working on things. I am rooting for him, but I think the best thing for him and the Cubs is to part ways. I don't think he is stupid, stubborne or any other personality disorder peopel ascribe to him. I think he has gotten this far on talent alone and has been trying to rely on what got him to the show. It is a pitty he didn't have better teachers. I really think Corey should have played winter ball. If he were playing and doing well he would have some trade value now. By sitting out, in open defiance of the Cubs' wishes, he has screwed the team and probably himself. In the past I defended Corey, but now I don't care what happens to him.
  7. Corey has totally killed his trade value by refusing to play winter ball. The impression he creates is that he sucks and doesn't give a damn. If I were a GM I wouldn't give up anybody good for Corey.
  8. I'm not sure if I believe Ofman, but if he is telling the truth it makes the bloated Eyre and Howry contracts look pretty foolish.
  9. What would Tampa want for both Lugo and Huff, though? That could cost a bundle. All the good prospects will be in Florida, somewhere. Marte and one other good prospect I think would do it, maybe two mid-tier ones. I still like Huff, by the way. Huff is a great fit for the Cubs because he's a lefty hitter who can back up Aram and Lee.
  10. What would Tampa want for both Lugo and Huff, though? That could cost a bundle. All the good prospects will be in Florida, somewhere. Cedeno and Hill. Regardless of what Hendry says, I'm sure they are both available. Hill should be available, but he won't be. Hendry doesn't want to let another Willis go (to a lesser extent Sisco as well). Time will tell who's right, but I think Hill can be had for the right price. I can see him as a key part of a Lugo/Huff deal.

  12. I would guess the Red Sox want Lugo. They traded Hanley Ramirez and Renteria, so they need somebody. I can see the Sox willingly overpaying for Lugo, which won't make Hendry happy.
  13. In 719 plate appearances Pierre hit 2 HR and 19 doubles, so people say he's a perfect fit at leadoff, but if he had hit 15 HR and 35 doubles people would wonder what to do with him because his power would be deemed inadequate for an RBI slot but too great to waste at leadoff. It's as if people don't want the best possible player, they want a "prototype".
  14. I may never get another chance to use this image again. http://www.butterfatmastermind.com/auctions/images/sempron/macias.gif
  15. If it comes out that Hendry really is pursuing Wilson I think Hendry should drop this charade of pretending the Cubs are sky-high on Cedeno and Cedeno will start in 2006 and blah blah blah. I already don't believe any of that crap and only a moran would still believe it after Hendry targets Wilson.
  16. My expectations are now down to the point that whatever we get out of Kerry is a bonus in my eyes.
  17. If this is true it means Cedeno is definitely on the trading block. I can't see any other way to interpret the pursuit of a right-handed light-hitting veteran SS.
  18. I worry that Macias won't be in shape for the WBC after spending all of December at the North Pole making toys.
  19. That question is tottally irrelavent unless the Cubs just traded for Podsednik. Pierre is likely better than Patterson, but only fractionally better. Suppose he gets hit in the leg with a FB. He probably will not be on the DL so he may play every day. Untill his leg fully heals he has almost no value. I am more scared of Pierre playing with minor leg injuries than I am of him being completely disabled. Even something insignificant, like a sore ankle, can render him absolutely useless, even though he would still be physically able to play. Without his speed he has zero value and the team would be better off putting even a replacement level player in CF.
  20. Here is the chart for Pierre singles at Pro Player in 2005. Sure, he got infield singles, but the bulk were in the outfield. Taller grass isn't going to help him find the gaps. http://www.butterfatmastermind.com/auctions/images/sempron/pierrehitchart.gif
  21. The real knock on him is that he's completely one-dimensional. If he suffers even a minor injury that reduces his speed he instantly becomes one of the worst players in baseball.
  22. In 2004 Pierre hit .380 in (non-sacrifice) bunt attempts. In 2005 he hit .431 when bunting for a hit. This is interesting stat: We know Dusty likes guys who can excute a bunt. The tall grass in the Wrigley field IF will only help Pierre. If by "help" you mean "hurt", I agree. Pierre hits ground balls. On the ground. In the grass. they will go slowly. Fielders will get them. they will not go through holes to the OF. He will be thrown out That's how I see it too. Despite his speed, in 2005 Pierre had only 19 doubles in 719 plate appearances. He hits the ball softly and tall grass won't help him unless he wants to bunt half the time.
  23. Does Munchkinland have a team? Macias might actually look tall on a team of Munchkins. http://www.dreamdollsgallery.com/madame/fall03/munchkins.jpg
  24. Short of proclaiming "Todd Walker has leprosy", I don't see how Hendry could do more to deflate his value.
