  1. I'd have to believe the Sox have the edge simply because Tejada wants to play for a winner and the Cubs are perceived as possibly the most disappointing team of the past 2 years. Will Tejada have a say? I don't know his contract situation, does he have a NTC? He can have a say, simply because no team's GM will sell the farm for Tejada if Tejada has flatly stated he doesn't want to play for that team, and Tejada is outspoken enough that he will make his opinion known if he really doesn't want to go somewhere.
  2. Money issues aside I think this is a great pick up. Could Vazquez be Contreras version 2? I think so. If you take out a handful of horrible games Vazquez's season stats would have been really good. The guy has talent, maybe he just needs better coaching to avoid the occasional implosion.l
  3. I was just looking at Vazquez's game logs from last year. He was wildly inconsistent, sometimes great, sometimes horrible. Maybe the Sox think they can fix that.
  4. I'd have to believe the Sox have the edge simply because Tejada wants to play for a winner and the Cubs are perceived as possibly the most disappointing team of the past 2 years. What does Tejada have to say about what team he's traded to? He can say plenty. He has already shown he is not shy about expressing himself. If he says he doesn't want to play for the Cubs then Hendry will not make the deal.

  6. Too small? Neifi's built like a brick s$&% house. He has to be from haulin that gargantuan cranium about. Neifi's body is weird. He has a fat belly, a big ass, and toothpick legs.
  7. Does the talking dog run the SABR department for the Cubs? :P Oh you mean the guy who sits in the broom closet with the Apple IIe run by hamsters? He was the genius who pointed out that Colorado Rocky Jeromy Burnitz had the 6th highest slugging percentage in 2004 among players with more than 120 strikeouts.
  8. So the A's get Bradley and Perez for a 2nd tier prospect. Sounds like a great deal for them.
  9. So what you're saying is that comparatively the Pierre deal totally sucks for the Cubs.
  10. They got Bradley for ONE prospect? That makes the Pierre deal look pretty bad for the Cubs.
  11. Jones would obviously need a righty platoon partner. I wonder if Hendry has anyone in mind.
  12. I wonder if Jim Hendry's crack statistical analysts have noticed Jones ranks 21st in slugging percentage among players with at least 120 strikouts.
  13. All this speculation could be ended very quickly. A reporter just needs to ask the O's GM point blank if Tejada is available, and demand a yes or no answer. An evasive answer would almost certainly equal a 'yes'.
  14. Juan "Base Percentage" Pierre.
  15. I dislike Dusty as much as anyone, but as long as he is the Cubs manager you have to give him a team he'll feel comfortable with. We need a veteran in RF.
  16. Regardless of his latest statements, Tejada is obviously unhappy with the way his team has been run and the O's have good reason to go into rebuilding mode, so I won't believe Tejada is unavailable until O's management unequivocally states he is off the market. Failure to produce such a statement would IMO be a tacit admission that Tejada could be had for the right price.
  17. Juan "Robes" Pierre?
  18. You can also add that Scott Eyre was given big $$ to be the lefty relief ace for the next 3 years, so Hill won't be filling that role either. Given Hendry's moves I just can't believe that Hill can't be had for the right price.
  19. How would Pierre fare in the AL? His ability to advance baserunners is so pathetic that it seems to me his value would be greatly diminished if he weren't batting behind a pitcher, as he does in the NL.
  20. Lopez shouldn't be too hard to move. We could work a 3-way deal with someone needing a catcher.
  21. Offtopic...just wondering...what's up with the N Korean theme? I was watching Team America a few weeks ago and decided North Korea was really cool.
  22. I say make the O's a starting offer of Cedeno/Williams/Hill plus give them a list of other players and let them have one player on the list. Should be someone decent, but not Pie. The O's may or may not take the offer but they would at least be tempted.
  23. They'll need a new SS, and they have no pitching, so I'm guessing Cedeno/Williams/Hill.
  24. I think it was Gooney that first reported that. :D It really makes sense that the O's want to start getting younger IMO. Even if they get Prior for Tejada they will still stink and not compete. I wonder if the the O's are considering getting real young and treating 2006 as a rebuilding year. It might be a good idea for them, and an O's fire sale would be fun for everyone else. They have IMO and even if they get Manny...again they won't compete in the East. They need to build some youth and young pitching would be perfect for them to get started. And yes, a Baltimore fire sale would be a blast. I don't see them trading Roberts though. They do look at least 2 years away from competing in the AL East, or even for the wild card. Without Tejada things just get worse, and Mora is unhappy too. If I were in charge in Baltimore I would absolutely treat 2006 as a rebuilding period.
