  1. A front of Ronaldinho, kaka and Pato next year? yeah, I'd take that.
  2. Good. he's been lame-ducking it since the last transfer fell through.
  3. Not sure, but i've wondered the same
  4. 4 years at tulane
  5. I love how people from New Orleans aren't the slightest bit afraid to come out and say that they're heavy drinkers. I miss that city sometimes. Most bars close at 2 am, 3 am on Saturdays. There are some late night (4 am, 5 am on saturdays) bars around. Closest to wrigley include Nick's Uptown and the ever-unpopular Big City Tap. And that place under the metro that you shouldn't go to. Smart Bar. it sucks. A good 4 am place close to your hotel is Streeter's Tavern, on the north side of Chicago Ave. between State and Michigan. Be sure to enjoy the one way glass in front of the urinals. To get to the game, take the red line. Closest stop by your hotel is the Grand stop at Grand and State, which is a couple of blocks west and a block south from the Inn of Chicago. Go north on the red line to Addison. It's two bucks a ride. Make sure you give yourself time, it's currently under construction and prone to holdups. normally it'd be about 40 minutes, including walking time, but I'd give yourself an hour at the absolute minimum, and frankly, i'd go up at least 3 hours beforehand and hang out in the neighborhood if I were from out of town anyway. Must go-to bars in Wrigleyville are probably Murphy's Bleachers and Sluggers (ask anyone and they'll tell you where those are). if you're looking to pick up a completely sloshed recently-graduated Big Ten sorority girl after the game then add the Cubby Bear to that list. Just a warning: you'll be totally surprised and bewildered by the packed bars just closing up shop for the night at 1:30 in order to get everyone out by 2. It weirded the hell out of me for a full year after I moved up here from New Orleans. Enjoy!
  6. because the american commentators are awful in comparison
  7. it was amazing, but we shouldn't talk about it since that would ruin the vibe
  8. Makes the most sense - Hoff and Ward are pretty redundant. Yeah, who needs a pair of lefty power bats when you can have Ronny Cedeno. Didn't we just come to the conclusion that Cedeno was out of options, or did someone take that part of the thread off?
  9. I'm really glad i did not watch the US game today.
  10. That was absolutely fantastic. Guus Hiddink is a master.
  11. What did you punch? I punched a hockey goalpost for mine.
  12. I fractured my right 5th metacarpal once in high school. Took me 5 weeks to start playing baseball again.
  13. Dammit, Eddie Johson. Altidore better still be hurt. Dan Califf and Frankie Hejduk still have those pics of Bob Bradley with a goat and Michael Parkhurst apparently boned Mrs. Bradley. BAH. I'm glad Kljestan and Freddy are there. I'd take Cooper over Ching
  14. thanks. it was Zvonimir Boban; the name sounded familiar and when i looked him up on wikipedia, some of the info (him being captain of the croatian team) came back to me. i don't know how good he was for milan, but he was there for a long time, so i'd assume that he was fairly popular. i know it was someone a little older (not in their early or mid 20s) because he was looked to be in his late 20s or 30s, was married and had at least two kids with him. btw, i can't believe paolo maldini is still playing. he was really, really good for Milan. one of the best midfielders of his era, for sure. And he was the captain of croatia in the 1998 world cup, where they finished third.
  15. he might not be the manager much longer if italy flames out in the opening round. italy does not accept failure from the azzurri. two questions for the people in this thread who know more about soccer than i do: 1. what are sweden's chances of making it out of their group? 2. this one requires some background. while in italy eight years ago (2000), my two friends and i stayed in a five star hotel in the italian town of viareggio. my best friend steve, his mom's best friend from high school is an exotic car dealer and had stayed in this hotel that had a pool which, while in it, made it look like you were going to swim from the pool right into the mediterranean. as an aside, this guy also wrote ferrari to tell them that steve had purchased a $120,000 ferrari, so that we could go tour the ferrari factory in modena. he was a good person to know. the rest of our trip consisted of backpacking and staying in hostels and mediocre hotels. anyway, we asked the concierge at our hotel - some way hot blonde woman from switzerland - where we might go for dinner the night that we were in town. she assumed that we were wealthy given that we were staying in this $400/night hotel, and made reservations for us at a place in portofino, which is a ridiculously beautiful and wealthy resort town on the sea. it was like $50 each for dinner, which was about what we were spending each week on food. she mentioned to us that she had also set up a big-time soccer player for dinner there, and that we might see him. he came toward the end of dinner - we knew it was him because (a) his wife was extremely hot and had diamond earrings down to her shoulders, and (b) little kids were going up to him asking for his autograph. if i remember correctly, he played for one of the milan teams, and was of croatian or perhaps serbian descent. this came up while talking with my friends over memorial day weekend. any ideas on who the mystery player might be? my guess is kahka kaladze. EDIT: I forgot Kaladze was on Dynamo Kiev until 2001. It was probably Zivonimir Boban. And Sweden has an excellent chance as long as Zlatan ibrahimovic is fully fit and plays up to the standard he set this year for Inter Milan. Especially since Pavel Pogrebnyak (the player that walked all over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup semis) is injured for Russia.
  16. Donadoni is also not a good manager.
  17. Domenech is not a good manager.
  18. Oh, and Timmy rocks
  19. Thank god Il jardinero isn't all that good. i mean, if your nickname is "the gardener", that's about as unimpressive as it gets, right? Please tell me Adu's getting the whole 2nd half. Imagine if we pulled EJ, moved Dempsey up, and brought in Adu. besides the fact that Dempsey has been tracking back and saving Dolo and Califf, of course.
  20. what an absolute horse**** lineup
  21. Great. More Eddie Johnson Jog-a-thon tonight. If Lando were a real team leader he's blow his s*** at Eddie for pulling that crap.
  22. That is desperation. I'm just glad that Chivas is playing Barcelona at Soldier Field in August. Not so I can go, but rather so I can make some nice money off of it. I really love how predictable Ticketmaster is in regards to releasing 100-level endzone tickets for matches at Soldier Field. Getting first row seats has been quite easy. Aren't 100s already gone because of the presales?
