  1. I agree that Adu didn't show a whole lot after he came on, but i think that's more a product of the fact that Jozy and Landon were both very tired and not running much. Adu basically tried to take everyone on every time he got the ball. He did do an incredible job to win the last gasp free kick, where he basically decided to make a run until he got fouled, and did so perfectly. I would like to see a central midfield of Bradley and Edu, I think. I certainly expected more out of Bradley tonight considering his form at Heerenveen this year, and was disappointed. Clark, while he has shown flashes of being a decent midfield controller, doesn't have the passing ability of Maurice Edu. Drew Moor blows. Blows, blows, blows. Blows. I can't believe he got abused on EXACTLY the same run by EXACTLY the same player twice. horrific. Corrales actually isn't an MLS scrub. he plays in Norway. In no way does that take away from the fact that he's still a scrub. When Dos Santos picked that ball up in the 85th or so minute and drew that ugly Dan Califf-style foul and yellow card from Corrales, i recall thinking that that was actually the best possible play Corrales could have done in that situation. I thought Feilhaber looked very good, especially considering the circumstances in which he came in and the manner in which his club season has unfolded this year. He had a good touch and displays a much better sense for where opposing players are around him than do any other US mids. Boca and Gooch were both pretty good, i thought. Timmy was excellent, as always. No fault on either of the two goals, as those were pretty much entirely on Moor. Bonus points for absolutely abusing that mexican forward that slide-tackled him. I spoke about Convey already, but I would just like to reiterate that he sucks. At this point I would seriously put him on the same plane as Justin mapp. He was sooooooo slllloooooowwww with every single one of his moves, it was incredibly painful to watch. A "1v1" (thanks, John Harkes! ***hole!) match between him and Dan Califf would result in both players eventually giving up and going to sleep on the pitch.. Jozy rocks. He actually had marquez beat a couple of other times, which of course resulted in Marquez falling down to draw the foul like he always does. I swear to God, if Rafa Marquez played for Juve it would be a match made in heaven. Anyway, back to jozy. powerful, decisive, has some great moves (did you notice toward the end of the first half he got stuck out wide after bringing down a long pass and juked the hell out of Mexico's left back?) Just awesome. We have a target forward for years and years to come, and a player who in my mind is a virtual lock to break Donovan's eventual scoring record, whatever it is. We need some wide fullbacks like nothing else. Sweet god. Ok, I'm done for now.
  2. Can I add that most of our difficulties going forward in the first 30 minutes stemmed Bobby Convey absolutely blowing a goat?
  3. Why can I not find out who these refs are and where they're from anywhere.
  4. Oh my god I am so [expletive] angry right now.
  5. how the flying f*** was that not a goal. I will cut off this ref's nuts and feed them to wolves.
  6. Just put on my US Soccer shield t-shirt. I'm ready.
  7. probably at home on my DVR. I've got an exam on Thursday so I may not watch it live.
  8. Not too shabby! I think Jozy and Freddy have a good chance to play major minutes. I'd like to see Stevie C and I think we'll miss Beasley. I'm sure we'll see some combo of Bradley and either Clark or Edu starting, but I'd love to see a more offensive lineup. Hopefully Bradley gets forward more as well. ---------Adu------Altidore-----Dempsey------------ ----------Edu-------Bradley----Donovan------------ --Bocanegra---Parkhurst---Onyewu---Pearce-- ---------------------Howard----------------------- Stevie C is injured. Let's pound Mexico
  9. Oh believe me when I say I know the uses for WARP and the problems with WARP. For what I was doing now, it's perfectly acceptable. You know, I did not put a label on each axis of the graph, thinking that this place would be smart enough to infer what they meant given the numbers on the graph and the comments about the graph. I guess I can't expect people to be able to do that. Let's see the x axis on the graph is a players rank in that year, with the Y axis being the WARP accumulated. So I did that....and BP's still more impressive. You're right. Players with a WARP of 25 or higher right now in 2003's BA's list (7). Players with WARP of 25 or higher on BP's list (9). BP listed Travis Hafner and Dontrelle Willis. BA didn't. Players with WARP of 25 or higher right now in the 04 BA list 3, compared to 4 on BPs. BP has Jason Bay listed, BA does not. Since that's a year later, let's look at WARP of 20 or higher. Oh look 8 for BP and 6 for BA. BP has Khalil Greene listed, BA does not. So the four guys that BP had on their lists that BA did not are Jason Bay, Dontrelle Willis, Travis Hafner and Khalil Greene. That's 4 All Star appearances, 2 Rookie of the Year winners, a Cy Young runner up, a top five MVP finish, a 22 game winner and 2 35 HR hitters. Oh it's also 3 seasons of WARP over 11.0, 5 over 8.0 and a World Series ring to boot. Yeah BA sure was better at finding stars. Please stop making things up. ooooooo, buuuurrrrrrnnnnn
  10. i do a perfectly fine job of getting drunk at any game, dammit
  11. There isn't one. We're going pants-free.
  12. Guzan has left camp to go to England. Sounds like Villa is a done deal. We now have 5 keepers in the BPL. He will be back for the Mexico game. I like that jersey a lot, very simple and clean. I can't wait for a National Team game in Frisco. Hopefully against a European opponent. I like the alternating white and off-white hoops.
  13. i dont mind that play at all i think most teams have a guy who would step up if a goalie was doing what biron did earlier that game, i know if a goalie did that to a kane or havlat id hope someone would stand up for them.. what the hell did biron do earlier in that game to deserve being taken out by crosby (maybe accidental) and laraque (completely intentional)? and it's good to know it's okay for a guy to dive at the feet of a defenseless goalie. that's a good way to increase scoring, let teams blow out the ACL's of good goalies so you're left with AHL and ECHL products in net. You have to be kidding me. People run goalies all the time. All the time. So he took a little too big of a swipe that time...didn't mean to, I'm sure. If you honestly had a problem with every player that unnecessarily contacts a goalie you're hate everyone in the league. And blowing Biron's ACL? You have to be kidding me. he slid straight in on a guy that has giant pads attached to his legs. This happens ALL THE TIME in hockey. it's part of the game. The players will sort it out. And Laraque is one of the most by-the-book tough guys in the league. I've never seen him throw a punch on a player that was down. You can't say that for most big men. That hit on Downie was a love tap that Downie tried to embellish and ended up injuring himself. I know this for a fact...I've done it before. If you want to deliver a real hit, you don't extend your arms, that's just dumb. try running into someone with your arms extended and see how much damage you do as compared to ramming them with your body. laraque will get a suspension, but it'll be short, as it should. Why don't you just admit that you're sick and tired of living in Penguins territory and being a Flyers fan because it means you take a bunch of crap about your team, and it means that you'll blow anything in a Pens-Flyers game out of proportion.
  14. I prefer Vance's date, although I can swing almost any time so don't make this post any sort of decisive factor. in fact, ignore what I just said. i'm in for whenever.
  15. I should be abused for ever implyinh nepostism. It's ok, I implied it too. Nobody could have predicted this, I don't think. Rovers scouts were at the game today.
  16. Seriously, I'm always amused by Dan Califf's "defending", where he goes directly at the player with the ball, and if that player makes the slightest of moves from his current path, Califf falls over him in the most awkward way possible.
  17. that is horrible
  18. Dan Califf has the athletic ability of a toaster oven.
  19. This was done by an ad agency not the Cubs. Agency is Jones Chicago. They should be fired for this campaign. I find the campaign awful but that's just me and I am entitled to my opinion. who are you defending yourself against?
  20. They go on sale at 10 AM online and over the phone. I believe the box office at Wrigley starts at 8 AM. And the lottery # for what # is the first wristband is at 6 AM. Wristbands are usually given out Mon-Weds of the week tickets go on sale IIRC. Man do I wish I lived in Chicago and could just head to the stadium. JR I try the wristband lottery every year and never have luck. Its about a 1 in 500 chance that your number will be early enough to matter. I hit it twice in 3 years. So that's probably never happening again.
  21. how bout a bucket 4-4-2 with Twellman up front, Adu and Altidore coming on as subs, and Jonathan Bornstein playing left back? That wet your whistle?
  22. how is this good news? FSC was doing a fine job of putting up 3 games a weekend with decent commentary, and now it's all gonna be broadcast on the internet instead.
  23. Link Thanks. I blame Garwilly for unnecessarily making me start to worry a bit. Last year I didn't have to leave for work until 11 AM, so I had a successful hour of ticket buying before that. But this year I won't be in a rush. I figure I may pick up a cheap router and borrow a crappy laptop to see how many windows I can have open. I figure I should be able to easily get over 500, although I need to check to see how much memory a Firefox window with 40 or 50 tabs takes up. Not that much. I had an easy 600 windows open last year on a middle of the road laptop. 18 firefox windows with 34 tabs apiece or something like that
