  1. there haven't been value dates after May in a number of years.
  2. Looks like Dusty is not the only one showing thier true colors... Don't worry. The longer you're here the more you'll get used to the regular use of Dustyisms by a majority of posters. I'll give you a quick rundown of standard Dusty references: anything about black vs. white players and playing in the heat anything about catching fish, especially striped bass anything about a player being his "girlfriend" There are several others, but I gotta go. Someone else will fill in the rest.
  3. Yep. Quinn used to drop back by moving forward. it rarely worked. :o
  4. You're close. Correct. 4/7, 4/8 & 4/9 are prime dates - Cubs home opening weekend, I guess. 5/26, 5/27, 5/28, 5/29, 5/30 & 5/31 are all regular dates. 6/15 Hou - prime date 6/28, 6/29 Mil - prime date Really? I figured since it was Memorial day weekend it'd be prime dates. Oh well, that's what i get for doing problem-solving at 2 AM
  5. 44 - 31 - 6 overall. 31 - 24 - 0 for weekends/nights/holidays. Ok, then this is the game breakdown 6 Value dates: 4/11, 4/12, 4/13 vs Cincy 4/26 vs Florida 5/2 vs Pit 5/18 vs Washington Regular dates: 4/7, 4/8, 4/9 StL 4/24, 4/25 Fla 4/28, 4/29, 4/20 Mil 5/1 Pit 5/12, 5/13, 5/14 SD 5/16, 5/17 Was 6/15 Hou 6/28, 6/29 Mil 9/5, 9/6, 9/7 Pit 9/12, 9/13, 9/14 LA 9/15, 9/16, 9/17 Cin 9/26, 9/27 Mil 9/29, 9/30, 10/1 Col Everything else is a prime date
  6. can you also tell us how many of each game type there will be?
  7. From my season ticket renewal letter dated 11/16/05: "Our Season Ticket base is at its maximum limit. We currently have a waiting list exceeding 7,000 to purchase season tickets. We need to know your intentions by December 15." Wow. Guess I'll eat that crow.
  8. No, middle relievers for pricey 3 year deals are bad ideas. Especially ones like Eyre who don't have any sustained success. As an aside, does anyone know what happened to Howry's K's this year? Three years of sustained success isn't enough? Can't anyone look beyond the one stat of ERA in '04 to gain a more complete picture of Eyre? I agree with you on quite a few things you've put into this thread CW, including the ridiculous sarcasm exhibited by a lot of people here. Looking at one year of stats is insane. Patterson hit 300 with 15 jacks and some steals or whatever before he tore his ACL, everyone thought he'd be great the next year, then he hits 260 with a million K's and gets sent to AAA the next year. Like I said, if not Eyre, who? It was printed EVERYWHERE that the Yanks wanted Eyre too, why is it so crazy to think we HAD to pay that much? Instead of complaining you should be thrilled the Tribune is spending some cheese. The Tribune has been spending some cheese for several years now and doesn't have much to show for it. I want them to spend some cheese wisely
  9. We did have two separate threads on consecutive days about Dunn coming to the Cubs. Dunn's coming to the Cubs? /goes off to make a Dunn thread
  10. Just to make one additional point on the "how would signing Giles help the team that much" argument before I drop it. Brain Giles had an MLVr of .302 last year. This means that, compared to a league average player, Giles contributed three tenths of a run more per game. Burnitz's MLVr:.012. Basically he was league average. So to have Giles over Burnitz gives an extra three runs over ten games. 49 runs a year. Significant.
  11. Last I checked, there's a list of 3000+ waiting for you to non-renew. When did you last check? I called at the beginning of last season to check my place in line. I would not be the least bit surprised to see that the line is much, much shorter now.
  12. How, if you have a team that has an operating budget, can you have the cost of one signing not affect who else you can sign?
  13. Take a second to examine the overall pitching and offensive stats for the 4 AL contenders the 3 years before that and I bet it doesn't paint the same picture Following the big one-year stories (i.e. chemistry, bullpen, "I like guys who catch the ball", whatever) is not going to make this team good long term
  14. Yeah, I was wondering when you'd jump into the fray. Spending 10-14 hours a day onsite at a customer location where they track internet access tends to reduce one's posting a bit. :( Whereas sitting at home reading science textbooks for 10-14 hours a day tends to increase one's posting a bit. In case anyone was wondering. back to the topic at hand! Top of the middle-aged reliever heap, here we come!
  15. Yeah, I was wondering when you'd jump into the fray.
  16. might be ADD. you should have that checked out. Is "aquiver" even a word? Or was that the ADD, too? I think "aflutter" would have been a better choice there. or "atitter"
  17. You have to be kidding me. Replace your Burnitz level production (17 win shares) with Giles (35 win shares).
  18. Nope. Joe will run away with this one. Doesn't matter who else you put in the poll.
  19. If someone is going to be released/nontendered, why wouldn't they have been already, before the 40 man freeze for the rule 5 draft? I think this reeks of upcoming trade.
  20. Last I checked, there's a list of 3000+ waiting for you to non-renew. When did you last check?
  21. One guy uses a common figure of speech, and you're saying this? That's kind of ridiculous.
  22. yeah, i had kinda wondered about that, which is why I asked you if you'd counted Eyre earlier.
