  1. Please. There is no reason for this change other than to make a few extra dollars because of the connection between the store and the time. It's just another cop out to sponsors. And why should changes benefit the fans? Maybe because we're the ones who bring in the sponsors. Our attendance and viewership of the games is what brings in money. And as I stated earlier, while it may be a mere six minutes, it's the principle behind why they're doing this. It's a cheap gimmick for no reason other than for money.
  2. This ranks right up there with putting the Spider-Man movie decals on the bases. Ridiculous. I think it's actually quite different, and not the least bit ridiculous. It's clever. Movie decals on the bases is in your face obnoxious. This is subtle and unique. Regardless of it being a few minutes, they're changing the start time of the games to accommodate a sponsor. That's it. There is no inherent benefit to the fans for this change. I understand that baseball is a business and that it's all about making money, but the game itself shouldn't be changed. That's why it's ridiculous.

  4. Chicago may be high-profile, but it's only been the past two years where it's become a "win or else" environment. I think the national perception still is that losing is acceptable at Wrigley because the beer is flowing and the women are scantily clad. That may work to our benefit since it may be perceived as low pressure. Heck, anything outside of the Yankees/Red Sox is low pressure. I seem to remember him having nice things to say about the Cubs organization when he played here with Texas, but that was probably standard stuff that anyone would say.
  5. Ken Rosenthal reiterating the Angels may be the top suitor for A-Rod's services. The Cubs get a passing mention. Come on Hendry. Get off your keister and make this happen ASAP.
  6. Cabrera, Willis, Pavano, Lee, possibly Pierre. . . shoot let's just reunite the remaining 2003 Marlins!
  7. Heck yeah! That's a world championship winning coaching staff. My only recommendation would be to possibly have Belle or Hundley be the hitting coach, given they know to hit (women and the bottle respectively).
  8. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I really don't think it'll take much to get A-Rod in he continues to tank. I could see a package of Moore/Marshall/Veal working if Hendry takes on Pavano/A-Rod and 3/4 of their combined deals.
  9. Not to brush this praise aside, but the pitching staff said the same thing about Oscar Acosta when he was canned, and the pitchers from those teams didn't suddenly forget how to throw.
  10. Umm, Steve Phillips? Didn't Bobby Valentine do the same thing? And Larry Bowa? Those who can do, those who can't commentate for ESPN.
  11. I'm guessing he'd walk out on Bowa. Not sure about Girardi. I'd walk out on Bowa.
  12. Clemens played for the Yankees and Red Sox. In the national media's mind, no player from either of those teams could ever do any wrong. Look at the free pass Giambi, a confessed steroid user, and Sheffield got from the leaked grand jury testimony.
  13. Given A-Ram's historical lack of hustle (yes, I know that term rankles some on this board), do you think he would be less inclined to sign with the Cubs if it meant someone hard-nosed like Girardi is hired? I think he wants a manager that will just let him do his thing and not pressure him to anything beyond that. I bet the closest he would find from the Cubs current pool is Brenley.
  14. Let's not forget the fact that ESPN is going to blow so much smoke up Dusty's keister about how great a manager he is. And how wronged he was to have the Cubs fire the best manager since Casey Stengel!
  15. That's like asking whether you want to be deaf or blind. Neither option has any real benefits.
  16. Um, if you're talking about Chris Speier, he has a drinking problem. I don't think he was "whooping it up" so much as living his disease. Unless you're talking about another of the coaches, but I can't see anyone else hanging out in bars near Wrigley.
  17. Maybe this opens the door for Arizona to go with a whole new broadcast booth, paving the way for Grace to return to the Cubs while Brenly takes a managing job elsewhere.
  18. Well, I guess we get to hear all about how the playoff teams had their horses all season, and how the veteran players are the reason each team made it to the playoffs. -sigh-
  19. You know, part of me wants Dusty to just go nuts and start swearing about how the Cubs are a terrible team, organization, etc. Lee Elia for the 21st Century.
  20. Let's not go say things we can't take back.
  21. If you're Greg Maddux, how upset are you that the Cubs ruined one of the longest and greatest W-L records in baseball? Discounting last season he has won at least 15 games in 18 (almost) straight seasons.
  22. How about a little shock for Brian Roberts! I mean, Brian Roberts?!
  23. Just another thing we can blame on Joe Morgan.
  24. I've said it before, but it seems that Loretta is a RH Todd Walker. Since the Cubs lack OBP, I wouldn't mind seeing him in the lineup with a one-year deal.
  25. Well that more or less answers what is going on with Derrek's daughter. That's a shame. Sad but she can still live a great life. It could have been a brain tumor or something like that. At least they are fortunate that Daddy is a millionaire and can provide whatever she needs. It also sounds from the full release like they're close to human testing for a cure. That in and of itself is great news.
