  1. Gotta love ESPN. They have a SportsNation poll in the Barrett article: Who's to blame for the Cubs' struggles this season? - Michael Barrett - Injuries - Lou Piniella - Carlos Zambrano Where are the sporadic offense, Jim Hendry, bullpen and dumb luck options?
  2. Not a chance. There's a better chance I'll be cheering his every strikeout.
  3. It is in ESPN's best interest for the Yankees to be chasing the Red Sox. He will be a Yankee. Fixed.
  4. Damn straight. From now on we'd best get some boxing lessons for guys like Soriano and Lee. If we're going to get suspended for fighting, then we'd better get the most out of it. Had he landed anything, he probably gets more games, and may have hurt himself. I prefer the swing and miss if they are going to fight. He also telegraphed his punch by grabbing Young's jersey with his left hand. I like to think that DLee is just that smart that he can get in a fight and still be a good guy. He also hesitated to get back into the fight after Giles held back Young. Lee looked like he was waiting for his teammates to hold him back, or at least provide the necessary separation.
  5. If that's true, then why does Ohman leave eggs in my front yard on Easter? :)
  6. I agree wholeheartedly, and was thinking strictly from the "win now" mentality that seems to have Hendry by the short and curlies. If we offer a package of Marshall + Izturis + EPatt + Hagerty, the O's should pony up about half of Tejada's remaining cash. They're still getting cost-effective players and have additional funds to use on mid-level free agents if need be. I think that'll be enough to keep Zambrano in the fold, and someone like Neal Cotts could fill in on the 5th starter position next year.
  7. First, Baltimore needs to decide on a direction for their organization. The past couple of years, it's been a piecemeal attempt at respectability. They either need to commit to spending (ala the 2007 Cubs) or rebuilding (ala the 2003 Indians). If it's the former, then a Z + Izturis trade for Tejada would be feasible, but not overly beneficial to the Cubs. With the way Z has pitched in his past couple of outings, Tejada's offense won't counteract Z's absence. However, if they commit to rebuilding, I would be willing to part with Marshall + EPatt + another pitching prospect for Tejada.
  8. What do the Yanks have that the Cubs would want though? (other than A-Rod of course). Given Hendry and Piniella's love for DeRosa, I don't see him going anywhere.
  9. Yikes. MacPhail keeps getting by based on his heritage and not his organizational ability. I don't see Girardi taking the Orioles job mid-season. He'll probably wait until the off-season to see what the Yankees do with Torre before moving onto another team.
  10. If they're going to suspend Peavy, it has to be a minimum of five games. A two-game suspension for a starting pitcher is meaningless.
  11. Actually, it's more like: E = Blowing in from right NE = Blowing in from center N = Blowing in from left W = blowing out to right SW = blowing out to center S = blowing out to left
  12. I sure hope so. Looking at the Brew Crew's schedule, the only team that is remotely formidable are the Twinkies. Otherwise, I'm worried that we may move along the same lines that we have for the past couple weeks, by maintaining a 5.5 game gap between the two teams. Hopefully the Cards fall out of it completely playing some tough teams.
  13. It's Paul Sullivan. The next time he does in-depth reporting on the Cubs will be the first time he does in-depth reporting on the Cubs.
  14. Barrett is just complete garbage behind the plate. Barrett drives in runs with his glove.
  15. In Barrett's defense (no pun intended), if you saw the tape of the argument, it seemed that Hill was more upset over his pitching than it was a fight with Barrett. Barrett was even trying to keep Hill calm during the entire thing. It took Rothchild stepping in before Hill was able to do so.

Dusty Baker is crediting Neifi Perez with saving the no-hitter with starting a double play on Baseball Tonight. Seriously, does Neifi have pictures of Dusty or something?
  17. Agreed. A lot of those other guys were miscast by bad management. Most being role players who were made regulars. Todd Hundley got a boatload of money and just plain stunk!!!!!!!!! Not only did he stink, he was incredulous about it. When he got booed, he would flip off the fans. Class act all the way.
  18. Percival Close to Deal with Cards
  19. Aw nuts. I missed the Sammy update thread. Mods, feel free to merge.
  20. So I didn't realize this wonderful confluence of factors, but Sammy is two homers away from 600 coming into the Rangers series against the Mariners. I will be at the Sunday night game in Seattle. I demand that I see a piece of history. If I catch that ball, eBay, here I come!
  21. http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/4/4a/225px-Walken-Cowbell.jpg Pretty soon, you're all going to be wearing gold-plated diapers.
  22. The HR totals for everyone but DeRosa, Barrett and Ramirez are atrocious. I really hope that isn't how the rest of the season shakes out.
