  1. HAHAHAH I LOVE THE ENDING  That was AWESOME! I think I may have peed a little.
  2. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/35941629.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiUqCP:iUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiU Lee (plus cash) + DeRo = Morneau :beg:
  3. Wait until you see what Peavy's contract does to us toward the end. Yea except we'll be paying for Jake Freaking Peavy. Well, if that's his name, then surely you can project how good he'll be in four seasons with strong confidence. Really? His last 5 seasons: Year ERA ERA+ 2004 2.27 171 2005 2.88 134 2006 4.09 99 2007 2.54 159 2008 2.85 134 He had one season that was clearly a fluke, are we really going to argue his worth? I may be mis-remembering (and it also could be nothing), but aren't there concerns over the health of his elbow?
  4. Well to be fair, Ty Cobb was a much much better ballplayer in his era than Ron Santo. Santo gets screwed because he is deemed as a borderline HOF player with a bad attitude during his playing days, although I personally think Ron is a clear HOF, not a borderline one. Also to be fair to Cobb, he was voted in during an era in which racism was practically endorsed by MLB.
  5. I believe Morgan went on record last year saying that Santo belongs in the Hall. Yeah, I know. But it doesn't mean that I can't place the blame at his doorstep any way. Irrational hatred is the best kind!
  6. If Ron doesn't get in, I'm going to personally blame Joe Morgan and Gary Carter. They will be the face of this failure. (Of course, I just don't like them, so it makes it easier).
  7. Backloading is way smarter than frontloading. This may be a dumb question, but why are contracts not spread out evenly over their duration? One would think that it wouldn't inhibit additional spending and would provide some value in case a player needs to be traded later in the contract.
  8. But he has also hosed them Lee for Choi was a salary dump. Not sure that's the best comparison. And Willis et. al for Alfonseca/Clement is debatable.
  9. How is it that Hendry agrees to any trade proposals with the Marlins? This is the second time he's been hosed.
  10. If Howry gets us two picks, I'll stop using his name instead of....you know... So what you're saying is that if the Giants sign Howry, they'll end up with Howry?
  11. While the Phillies were a great team, they had the luxury of watching the Mets implode yet again. I don't think Manuel would be in this discussion had the reverse happened. I'm quite happy with Lou winning it. Personally, I'm more perplexed by Joe Torre getting a first-place vote and Sveum getting a third place vote.
  12. Marty Brenneman strikes Cubs fans again!
  13. Right, but what is supposed to say? That he's perfectly content to take a below-market contract to stay in Chicago? That would ruin any leverage he has with the Cubs or another team. I have a pretty good feeling that Dempster will be back in Chicago next year, but agree that I don't want it to limit our ability to get Peavy or a RF.
  14. I'm hoping the I-Hop on Golf and Skokie Blvd. Portillo's would have made for a much better awards venue. FTW. I completely forgot Portillos... oh, that chocolate cake.
  15. Not sure there's anything to back that statement up. Where have you heard that Dempster is a "priority" as opposed to Peavy via trade or any other FA pitcher? I would take Peavy or Lowe over Dempster any day. I don't think the Cubs are putting all of their eggs in the Dempster basket by any means. But maybe you've read or seen something I haven't. In which case, please share. I don't have the time to find all the relevant articles, but Jim Hendry has made it abundantly clear that his priorities this off-season are re-signing Dempster and Wood.
  16. Why is that a safe bet? Why would anyone prefer Dempster over Lowe assuming the contracts would be similar? I think it's a safe bet based on what we've been hearing from the Cubs organization. They're not looking to make a splash in the free agent market because of lower payroll flexibility than in years past, coupled with the fact that Hendry has made Dempster a priority.
  17. I seem to remember reading someplace that Lowe is only going to be looking for a three-year deal. No discussion on how much though.
  18. I'm hoping the I-Hop on Golf and Skokie Blvd.
  19. It's football season, so the Bears stuff is out in force.
  20. I thought there was no way it would take two days for a comment like this. This is the obvious reason for his struggles. /green font color I thought it was odd too, thus I ended everyone's suspense.
  21. I think the problem was that every time Lou told Fukudome not to swing at everything low and outside, the translator said the exact opposite. Clearly, that was the issue.
  22. Cubs 2009: "Maybe if you had my dinner warm, I wouldn't hit you." Sorry, I just figured we were in an abusive relationship with the team because we always say "Maybe next year."
  23. I would hope if Hendry were looking at the Rockies, he would see what it would take for Brad Hawpe. He's a much better fit for what he is looking for.
