  1. Here's what kills me with the whole situation. This is not the first time this has happened. Look at how past situations were handled and follow precedent. The commissioners office should have a protocol that's supposed to be followed when this happens. They're completely feeling this thing out as they go, and they shouldn't be. There should be some kind of guideline that says if you can't fit the game in, then you look for an alternate site, to be chosen according to certain weighted conditions, such as distant from both teams or just the home teams field, availability, dome or not as prudent, etc...There should be some timeline benchmarks as part of that protocol as well.
  2. Are there any publicly traded companies out there who install windows in the Houston area?
  3. Anyone surprised that Owings is the player? I know he struggled this year and was eventually sent down but in many ways, I wish we had him...although I don't know where we would put him. Have him start in place of Marquis? I don't know. And after all, it is for Dunn. Marquis is a better pitcher than Owings.
  4. the good thing is that hes a type b Doesn't matter. It would only matter if we offered him arbitration, and he went somewhere else anyways. If we don't offer arb, then the rating doesn't matter. No way we'd offer him arbitration.
  5. "This." This being one of those trends. ;)
  6. maybe 70, honestly. a 120 pound closer with a violent delivery and numbers trending the wrong way? where do i sign? I would agree with the 7 not 70...The guys numbers might be getting worse, but getting 55 saves means your doing something right. Saves are the new RBI He's one of the best closers in baseball....Am I saying he should make 15 a year...no way!!!! No relief pitcher should be making that money, but he's still one of the best in baseball at what he does I would say he's pretty good at it. What I like about him isn't his ability to dominate, because he's merely slightly above average in that regard. What I do like about him is that he is very, very consistant at being as effective as he is. Very true Juan Pierre is a very, very consistant leadoff hitter. True, but he's ineffective. In my original post, I left out one important phrase. I meant to say "I'd say he's pretty good at it, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's one of the best in baseball...." KRod is fairly effective, and he seems to avoid periods like Marmol had just before the break and like Wood has had recently. That's how I see him. Certainly not a 10mil + closer though.
  7. Liar, I could probably find 13 sites it is on. Lemme guess...is your blog #13?
  8. I like the angle that this site puts on it: http://www.cubanandthecubs.com/ If this ends up being true, I'd love to see Cuban take on Reinsdorf and MLB in court.
  9. I'd rather the games get rescheduled even later than that, so lets hope Ike lingers. Stros are red hot, hitting on all cylinders, while we're not playing our best ball right now. Putting the games off until as late as possible works to our advantage, I think.
  10. I love where he said Alexei Ramirez is the best rookie in town, and he seems like he thinks it's unfair that everyone is talking about Kosuke instead. No mention of Geo at all. How convenient.

  12. I'm surprised the Reds just cut that guy. He wasn't very good, but he has a decent arm and he still had options if I'm not mistaken. It's not like their system is so loaded on MR prospects that they couldn't have kept him in their system and see if he figured it out. The Reds hate the Cubs more than they hate the Brewers. Or do they? I don't know about the Reds, but Dusty certainly does. Just look at what the man did to Prior and Wood.

  14. He's an intricate part of the Angels' sucess the last few years, including their WS title. They have a large budget and could afford to keep him, and he's seemingly happy there. Yet, there do not seem to be any plans to bring him back next year. Apparently, the Angels share your concerns, or there wouldn't even be any discussions of K-Rod hitting the FA market.
  15. I voted for Howry. I voted for him because I absolutely love how Gagne is pitching. He's doing everything I ever wanted him to do. On the other hand, I absolutely hate how Howry is throwing. That said, I wouldn't do a Howry for Gagne trade, not in a million years...
  16. Is there any way to add another option without restarting the voting, anyone? Jolbert Cabrera needs to be added now.
  17. F'in Steve Garvey.
  18. Eckstein isn't very good. Is he really that much better than Hu? They had no room for Dunn since they already have 4 OF. I didn't expect them to pass on Eckstein, and wouldn't offer any criticism for them passing on him. That was the right thing to do. But Simers makes it sound like Colletti passed on Eck because he knew AZ would pick him up, and that they'd be worse off for it, like it was preconceived strategy on Colleti's part. I don't care if LA had 4 OFers...they didn't have to actually trade for Dunn. All they had to do was put in a claim, offer a C level prospect in return, and when Cincy refused, they can't trade him to AZ. If Cincy agreed to trade Dunn for them for a nothing-prospect, even better. LA doesn't have so much talent that they couldn't find a use for Dunn if they got him for next-to nothing. Passing on him was stupid. Simers implying that letting certain players go to LA was a tactical move on the part of Colletti but neglecting to consider Dunn was shoddily selective at best. FJM not mentioning this was probably an oversight. I was disappointed as I was sure FJM would have torn that one up and wanted to see them hop on that one.
  19. I don't think so. If that were the case, they wouldn't be publicizing potential rotations that has him pitching again during the regular season. If he was cooked, then they'd be tipping their hand by having him scheduled the first time he didn't pitch as announced. If he was cooked and they were trying to hide it, they'd be better off just saying they're saving him for the playoffs, and they may or may not give him a spot start or two to keep him sharp, then let the opponent see when he's not on the roster on game 1 of the NLDS.
  20. I think there was a mutual unspoken understanding that he wasn't going to appear in any more games, and that his chance of making the post season roster, even given any injuries, was about 0%. This allows him to graciously bow out, which he deserves.
  21. Boooooo!!!! Hiss!!!!
  22. They wouldn't know how to work it. GPSs can be dangerous if you them for gospel. http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/17/bus-driver-chooses-gps-over-gigantic-warning-sign-plows-into-ov/ http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/22/trucker-blindly-follows-gps-gets-wedged-in-farm-lane/ http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/04/man-follows-gps-directions-onto-train-tracks-into-dummy-hall-of/ http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/02/gps-leads-driver-into-tight-spot-stays-wedged-for-three-days/ http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/11/another-brit-puts-complete-faith-in-gps-system-nearly-perishes/ http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/20/uk-drivers-trust-gps-more-than-their-own-eyes/ http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/10/motorist-has-faith-in-gps-drives-into-sandpile/ I could dig up many more on engadget alone... Here's my favorite quote from one of the articles... Are we really becoming that stupid as a society?
  23. Not necessarily. Z's kind of streaky, and that drives his performance more than who he is throwing against. He's done well when he's been throwing good regardless of the quality of the opponent, and conversely, when he's tough stretches, it generally didn't matter who it was against.
  24. I can't say if this was sarcastic one way or the other. I'm disappointed that LA passing on Eckstein so he could go to AZ was mentioned, but no reference to Dunn either way by Simers or FJM.
