  1. Was there someone that seriously did? I thought that stuff was all tongue in cheek. No he was being 100% serious. I cant remember what thread it was in but he blasted Demp and his contract saying he hasnt lived up to it and other stuff too. It was in the post game thread for his last start ("Chicks Dig the Long Ball" is the follow-up title)
  2. If you had to pick two years to really be awful, these were probably the two. Yeah, and fortunately for them, Jim Bowden got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, so now they might have a half-competent GM.
  3. I remember something like that. I got home from wherever I was, got on my computer and saw it was tied heading to the bottom of the 9th, so I thought I'd go watch the 9th at least. I went, turned the TV on, turned to WGN, and was met by silence and a shot of the bushes just above the wall. I wondered why they were zoomed in on the bushes before Hawk mumbled something about that being the game and cutting away to ARam crossing the plate. Off of Linebrink I think. Or Dotel Linebrink, June 20, 2008. Yeah that was a great game. Lee and Ramirez went back-to-back off Dotel in the 7th to tie it and then Ramirez went walk-off to win it. Oh 2008, you seem oh so long ago. Cubs went on to sweep that series, as well: Ramirez Homer (Len's call, so you can't not hear Hawk) http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080620&content_id=2967993&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc

  5. That is one of my favorite images of all time, not just for the fact that it indicates the Cubs are doing well (at the moment), but also for the fact that Lou looks like he's about to drive off a cliff.
  6. The post is in the FAQs section.
  7. If you look at his MiLB stats, he projected to maybe make it as a bench player... maybe. Low OBP, middling SLG leading to a mid to low .700 OPS. They might have missed judged him, but he really wasn't looking like he'd turn out as he has.
  8. I believe so.
  9. Anthony Kim is 7 under today and now tied for 2nd with -12 (He's on 18, however).
  10. That's like saying the a-bomb has a "pretty big" explosion...
  11. Last 3 Years, (2009, 2008, 2007) OBP: Lee: .393, .361, .400 ARam: .389, .380, .366 Fuku: .375, .359 ~ Theriot: .343, .387, .326 Byrd: .329, .380, .355 Fontenot: .301, .395, .336 Baker: .343, .322, .296 (06 was his first "full" year) Nady: .357, .330, .337 (08, 07, 06 due to 7 games played in 09) Soto: .321, .364, .433 (60 PA in 07) That's more then three that either can get on base, have been able to in the past, or have improved significantly the past three years.
  12. It amazed me to listen to Stu Scott and whoever he was with overreact to these on SportsCenter. Its one thing to be friendlier to fans, but let him have his damn emotions on the course. Who the hell cares if he curses at himself when he makes a bad shot. Give it a damn rest you self-important jackasses.
  13. Ha. That's like listening to a recording of me on the tee. And yes, I curse Tiger Woods when I make a bad shot. Also curse James Joyce when I have to write a lot.
  14. Don't overstate the WS pitching. The Cubs could have pitching as good, but probably won't: 2005 WS Rotation: ERA ERA+ WHIP H/9 HR/9 SO/BB Mark Buehrle 3.12 144 1.183 9.1 0.8 3.73 Freddy Garcia 3.87 116 1.250 8.9 1.0 2.43 Jon Garland 3.50 128 1.172 8.6 1.1 2.45 Jose Contreras 3.61 125 1.231 7.8 1.0 2.05 O Hernandez 5.12 88 1.457 9.6 1.3 1.82 2010 Cubs Possible Members of Rotation (last year): ERA ERA+ WHIP H/9 HR/9 SO/BB Carlos Zambrano 3.77 119 1.376 8.2 0.5 1.95 Ted Lilly 3.10 145 1.056 7.7 1.1 4.19 Ryan Dempster 3.64 123 1.305 8.8 1.0 2.65 Randy Wells 3.05 148 1.276 9.0 0.8 2.26 Carlos Silva 6.46 66 1.598 12.5 1.2 2.16 (2008 Numbers) Sean Marshall 4.32 104 1.441 9.6 1.1 2.13 Tom Gorzelanny 5.55 81 1.319 8.6 1.1 2.76 The rotations aren't that dissimilar. Lilly is pretty close to Buehrle, Z to Garcia, Demp to Garland, and Wells over Contreras. The fifth starter is pretty moot, especially in the playoffs. The BIG issue is going to be the bullpens: 2005 WS Bullpen: ERA ERA+ WHIP H/9 HR/9 SO/BB Dustin Hermanson 2.04 221 1.099 7.2 0.6 1.94 Luis Vizcaino 3.73 121 1.471 9.5 1.0 1.48 Cliff Politte 2.00 225 0.936 5.6 0.9 2.71 Neal Cotts 1.94 233 1.110 5.7 0.1 2.00 Damaso Marte 3.77 120 1.721 8.9 1.0 1.64 Bobby Jenks 2.75 165 1.246 7.8 0.7 3.33 Shingo Takatsu 5.97 76 1.605 9.4 2.8 2.00 Bullpen: 2010 Cubs Possible Members BP (last year): ERA ERA+ WHIP H/9 HR/9 SO/BB Carlos Marmol 3.41 132 1.459 5.2 0.2 1.43 John Grabow 3.36 128 1.410 7.7 0.6 1.43 Jeff Gray 3.76 118 1.291 10.3 1.0 4.75 David Patton 6.83 67 1.807 10.1 1.3 1.21 Esmailin Caridad 4.17 1.405 9.5 1.2 2.48 (Minor League numbers from here down) Justin Berg 2.43 1.257 6.6 0.3 1.21 James Russell 3.43 1.371 9.7 0.8 2.42 Jeff Samardzija 4.35 1.404 9.9 1.2 2.63 John Gaub 2.25 1.150 5.4 0.6 2.42 Jeff Stevens 2.03 1.040 5.5 0.2 2.44 Scott Maine 3.68 1.364 8.0 0.0 2.14 J.R. Mathes 3.62 1.268 10.4 0.8 3.64 Blake Parker 3.00 1.235 6.4 0.5 2.15 The WS bullpen was unreal that year. But look at who was giving them the games: Hermanson: ERA+ of 104 and 96 the years before, out of baseball after 2006. Vizcaino: Not far from his normal numbers, ERA+ of 67 and 117 the years before. Politte: 109 and 85, also gone after 2006 Cotts: 84 the year before, we know what he did with the Cubs Marte: This was actually a down year for him, ERA+ of 293 and 139 the years before Takatsu: sucks, was cut Aug. 1, never played in the majors after 2005. (They had a few others that gave them some innings, but only 21.2, and didn't play in the postseason. It should also be noted that Hermanson injured his back in September and only pitched .1 innings in the playoffs). Its possible the Cubs could have pitching as good as the WS did that year, but they need the same magic to happen to their bullpen. This also points out why its a waste of money to overpay guys like Grabow.
  15. Matt Cooke gets karma'd by Evander Holyfield...err, Evander Kane.
  16. Westwood bogies the twelth and Phil comes a foot from three eagles in a row on 15.
  17. Something is happening in Tampa with Sabathia.
  18. 2n rounder this year, 3rd or 4th next year is being reported so far.
  19. Jeter hit the breaks and Scutaro was pulled in trying to cut the throw short to throw home.
  20. the best part of this is going to be the reaction of the eagles fans.
  21. Yeah, that takes up too much room on one corner.
  22. At least Ravich corrected him.
  23. It absolutely shouldn't matter, from a fan's perspective, of course. But now I can't help wonder about it, as well. Strange. :) I always assumed that Lugo gets paid by Boston for whatever amount they are picking up, and the new team pays anything they owe to the player separately? This would be easier, provided that direct deposit was properly set up for everyone. Since taxes can be quite complex due to the differing portions of time worked in various states each with their own tax rates and laws, I assume that payroll is somewhat modernized, but who knows? I now can't help wondering about this as well... I think Boston pays the $9 million and Baltimore pays him the league minimum? From a USA Today article:
  24. I updated the first post with TV/radio/XM broadcast info.
