  1. Amazing what happens when you have 30 pitchers and can manipulate the DL to have guys only pitch once every week. has anyone written the definitive article on doyers DL shenanigans yet i need something to whine about to my LA fan friends The thing that annoys me the most is that it seemed like the Dodgers were using the rules to their advantage while the Cubs were running Russell and Zobrist out there with nagging injuries when they didn't need to.
  2. First off, Leathersich now plays for the Pirates and Rosscup was traded to the Rockies for Carasiti. Carasiti and Maples are going to be competing for a slot in the pen to start the year. Butler and Zastryzny are AAA starters/MLB spot starters/emergency BP usage. I'm holding out hope that Mills can still turn into something, but it's not likely. Markey, Berg, Swarmer and Thorpe all still need innings at AAA before they can be rightly judged, as do the AA and A+ guys. Tseng and Alzolay need to stay as starters. I expect Tseng to compete for the 5th starter spot, with the Cubs going after a veteran/high risk arm for the other spot. Alzolay hopefully starts at AAA and does well. Also, this is a good year to be shopping for BP help. There are a bunch of solid BP arms that could be available: Shaw, Reed, Cishek, Davis, Hunter, Morrow, Nicasio, for example. Plus they could go after a couple former starters to convert, signing them to either minor league deals/ST invites or low cost major league deals, like Ubaldo Jimenez.
  3. The good news is that since Quintana only threw 12 pitches, he may be able to start Saturday.
  4. Thanks Werth. You've really been helpful today.
  5. October 12, 1988 vs the Winnipeg Jets to be precise.
  6. That's the earliest we can clinch right? Can only get down to 2 today and 1 tomorrow because the Brewers are off. Yep. Even if the Crads win today, if the Cubs win the next 3, it's over. Today: Cubs win, Cards win - Cards 3, VBs 2 Tomorrow: Cubs win, VBs off - Cards 1, VBs 1 Tueday: Cubs win, it's over
  7. I understand ones where Javy is off for a millisecond being kinda horsefeathers, but that was a blatant overslide.
  8. You guys are a couple days behind, they already determined that it was unintentional. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20715945/mlb-rules-no-intent-detroit-tigers-pitch-hit-plate-umpire
  9. Clearly this is just another case of a terrible coaching staff screwing up another player. (yet again, not a serious comment)
  10. That's.... a really stupid thought process. You're so worried about helping a competitor that instead of taking a lottery ticket prospect, you'd just give up the player. Also, this seems to indicate that the Pirates have no clue how waivers work. If the Phillies hadn't taken him, there's a good shot he ends up with one of your competitors anyways, and almost no shot he ends up in the AL.
  11. Yep. Line drive to center that looked like it could be caught, so he held at third to tag. Really was a TOOTBLAN, he should've been down the line ready to go home if the ball dropped, since he had no chance of scoring from third if it was caught (as demonstrated by the fact that he was thrown out).
  12. Step 1: Fire Mallee. Not a super serious comment
  13. Drake vs. righties: 1.077 OPS Drake vs. lefties: .697 OPS Would've been funny if Zobrist batted RH against him.
  14. that top 100 prospect is a 24-year old first baseman OPSing .653 in AAA. Who is no longer a Top 100 prospect. He was only on BA's list (74) and he's already off their mid-season list.
  15. Careful, noted genius David will roll his eyes at the suggestion that this bullpen isn't all that good.
  16. Hahn is doing a damn fine job down south.
  17. Fowler's been doing pretty damn good since the beginning of June, slashing .274/.367/.537
  18. The DBacks just mugged the Tigers. The Cubs should be calling about Avila right now if the Tigers are selling that low.
  19. I'm ok with trading Almora, not Happ.
